Monte who's only won 1 us open match in his career coming into this open has now won the first two rounds and will get an exhausted Nishikori next. Unreal

#4342Possible though that with the hurricane situation, there could be additional rest for some. Will have to be factored in if that happens. Plus once that is clear, the weather is going to be much less of a factor with temps supposed to be 15 degrees at least cooler during the day. Did hear Nishikori took a medical timeout today, not sure if that was heat related or an actual injury. Probably heat.Comment -

#4343Injury related EP. He was cramping up the entire fifth set. Cramps in his thighs and in his hand. The heat wasn't really bothering Nishi like it was Cilic.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#4348I just don't think he can break de Bakker at this point. Tie break will be his only real chance, I think and he's having to work really hard on too many service games now to hold. Will hope for some strange in the tie break maybe and get to that 5th set where anything goes.Comment -

#4351Impressed with Berankis' fight today. He's going to a 5th set with Melzer it appears. See if he has the nerve to win.
Dodig. Thanks for choking the break back and then getting broken. Bye bye. He just quit.

#4357If you bet Dodig on the handicap, it should be a cancelled wager. All handicaps and totals are cancelled when the matches are finished by retirement ... at least everyone I know of.
Berankis blew a golden opportunity in the 5th. Was up a break on Melzer and serving to go 5-3, but got broke. Blake looking solid in this 2nd set.Comment -

#4367Let's see if Anderson can keep from choking before the tie break this set. Not feeling great at this point as Anderson has proven to be a pretty shitty tie break player this season, think he is 4-9 in tie breaks including tonight. Bellucci I think is 8-9 now in tie breaks. Of course both players should have nerves, not just one here. Love it if Bellucci could yack up a break on his serve here at 5-5.Comment -

#4372U.S. OPEN FRIDAY PLAYS
PARLAY: STAKHOVSKY + PAVLYUCHENKOVA [-110]
Stakhovsky did have to work hard against the veteran Luczak going to 5 sets and rallying from down 2-1, but he really turned it up a notch late and won the last two sets convincingly. His serve was solid with 29 aces, but he'd do himself a world of good to increase his 1st serve percentage into the 60s. Harrison knocked out Ljubicic to pick up his first Slam win. His serve was solid too, but there is a large class difference right now between the old man Ljubicic and Stakhovsky's game. Harrison certainly will have the crowd support and will be the talk of ESPN because he's an American, but in the end I think Stakhovsky's serve has proven much more consistent during his hot streak whereas I think Harrison's based on past results/form isn't as dominant. I think Harrison will grab a set here and won't be easy to dismiss if he gets early momentum, but I think the Ukrainian continues on another round. Pavlyuchenkova has been one of the better hardcourt hits this summer in WTA that no one pays attention too. She's won easily in the 1st two rounds here and draws Dulko. Pavlyuchenkova needs to improve her 2nd serve, but she hits big and can serve big with her 1st granted that she gets it in enough. I'm not taking much from Dulko's win over Azarenka since she was basically playing a zombie. Dulko is a nice competitor, but this is not her best surface despite a 4th round apperance here last year with a weak draw. This time, the draw is tougher and I think the power of Pavlyuchenkova will wear her down over the course of the match.
*Keep in mind for Friday that there are going to be rain delays. Forecast with the hurricane glancing by is calling for more showers in the afternoon and evening. No telling really how the delays will work since rain bands with this storm will probably be unpredictable. Probably see more tennis in the morning and late in the evening I would think. Adjust your wagers accordingly if you don't like having money tied up because I think it's likely some of the scheduled matches will not be completed tomorrow**

#4375HANTUCHOVA-DEMENTIEVA OVER 20 [-120]
I think this is a real nice number for a potential over shot today. These two have met numerous times throughout their careers with Dementieva holding a sizeable advantage. This will be their 3rd meeting in 2010 with Dementieva winning in Sydney in a rollercoaster three setter and then Hantuchova beat her a month later when she led 1-1 in the 2nd set after winning the first with the Russian then retiring. Hantuchova had to battle past Vania King in three sets last round. She's had a mixed summer on this surface, but has battled hard in her matches. Dementieva had far less issues making it to Round 3, but I still see those double faults and a low 1st serve percentage, which means you could reasonably expect this one to be a break fest. Hantuchova was broken 7 times in 20 break opportunities in the first two rounds with Dementieva broken just 3 of 16 opportunities after saving all 7 break opps in her opener. Looking back to the Russian in New Haven last week, she also played a lot of back and forth matches that went three sets. I think that is a distinct possibility today and with the total at 20, it is still possible for this to get by in straights if both hold serve better.Comment
