6-1 - 1st set to Dabul. Dear God, retire. Not that I don't love a good raping.

*Acasuso EVEN (Monaco): A delicious clay court match-up here. Acasuso impressed me in Chile last week, showing little rust from a long layoff. He played well, beating Robredo before Gonzalez steamrolled him. Monaco for his part showed well in Chile for one less round than Acasuso before also being steamrolled by Gonzo. For me, this comes down to two things. Head-2-head: Acasuso owns a 3-0 mark, all clay court wins & who can give out less break points. Both were solid last week in this department, but in the head-2-heads, that's where Acasuso made Monaco pay.Comment -

#148SAP Open - San Jose: 2.10.09
*Hewitt -150 (Fish): The line might hit you as strange considering Fish is ranked higher and is seeded 5th in this tournament. That hopefully means the books are right and so am I. Hewitt has gotten off to a fairly solid start in 2009. His losses have come in hard fought matches against Fernando Gonzalez in Melbourne in 5 sets and Nalbandian in Sydney in two well contested sets. This figures to be Fish's serve against Hewitt's return. Fish really hasn't impressed me much early on as he's rolled some easy players and then got crushed by Baghdatis in Melbourne, who has the athletic return skills of Hewitt. If the Aussie can control his serve and keep the breaks to a minimum, he should be able to wear Fish down with some long rallies or force Fish into having to hit winners. Won't be shocked to see a 3 setter here.Comment -

#149After one set, Hewitt is a miserable cunt. Let Fish save 7 break chances, was up 4-3 in the tie break with a chance to hold serve & take command at 6-3. Instead, loses 7-5. Cunt.

*Errani [Even] (Maursemo): You should fade me hard! Errani just beat Maursemo in straights on the 7th in Fed Cup action in France. They'll be playing on a similar indoor hard surface, so why would you go against last week's 6-4, 6-3 win for the Italian? I won't + Mauresmo has lost 3 straight matches.Comment -

*Youzhny +180 (Ferrer): Total hunch play. Youzhny has been awful since last summer, but Rotterdam has been good to him in the past. Ferrer was fortunate to survive Melzer in round 1 as his serve failed him miserably. The indoor hard surface is one of the least favorites for the Spaniard (15-20). Youzhny beat him on this court in 2007 although both were much better back then. The Russian is 8-3 on this court and should use the faster surface to his advantage. The big question is whether he can hit enough winners & stay focused long enough to win? For the price, it's either Youzhny or no play. I'm tipping the Russian for the upset.Comment -

#155I was honestly surprised to wake up and find that a winner with the way my week has gone. Of course Errani is probably gonna even it out as she's looking like crap against Mauresmo. Such is this week.

*Isner -180 (Garcia-Lopez): Yes, the price blows. But I still like the American here. This is a repeat of last year's tournament where Garcia-Lopez won a three set, three tie break match. This could set-up to be the exact same as Isner should find the indoor surface again to his liking. The question with both of these guys is which one will have the more consistent match? I like Isner. He flamed out in Melbourne, but did have a nice run in Auckland. Revenge should be a factor here & Garcia-Lopez has lost 4 of his last 5 indoor hard court matches since last year's San Jose event & is still just 11-23 on the indoor surface in his career. Broke out your Maalox for some tie breaks today!Comment -

#157Youzhny chokes less and wins.
Seriously, great pick, I'd rather lose it that way (Ferrer coming back after trailing one set) than the "Croatian" way (leading one set and one break and still losing it).
Big questions are:
1. What will his odds be against Ancic? (I'd say ~+200)
2. Does he have a chance against Ancic? (I'd say yes, because Ancic is still not playing his best)
With ya on Isner.Last edited by meganie; 02-11-09, 01:09 PM.Comment -

#158If Youzhny serves like he did in the 1st two rounds, he'd be worth a shot at big odds. He won the tourney in 2007, so he likes the court. I was flustered by his form early this season. He's usually pretty steady. The Ferrer win could be a huge turning point for his year if he can parlay that into a deep run here.
Garcia-Lopez withdrew. I see Delgado listed as the opponent, so I guess it's no action for me.Comment -

*Baghdatis -150 (Querrey): Considering that the Cypriot was ahead in their meeting in October despite a tough back injury I believe, you'd have to think Baghdatis is the play today. Marcos battled Querrey to a 1-1 tie heading into the 3rd set and led 3-2 before the injury forced him to retire. His serve that day was topsy turvy. 9 aces, but 8 double faults. Querrey as usual was flaming aces - 17 - but found it hard to beat Marcos as he lost the first set 7-5, but was able to win the 2nd set tie break. Querrey started strong in Auckland, but fizzled in a straight sets loss to Kohlschreiber in Melbourne. For all his power of serve, he is just 10-8 on indoor hard courts. Baghdatis struggled against the shifty returning skills of Ferrer last week, but should find the lanky Querrey more to his liking.Comment -

#160Well shit. Scratch my Baghdatis bet. I logged onto my account a little bit ago and it was voided because Carib had the wrong start time listed. Looks like it might save me though, he's getting manhandled.
Or he comes back and wins in 3 because I don't have money on him.

Baghdatis is kind of a phaenomenon. Down set and break, breaks Querrey out of nowhere and going into a third set. Reminds me of the Soderling match.Last edited by meganie; 02-11-09, 06:53 PM.Comment -

#162Yeah I noticed that this afternoon with Simon/Ancic - that should be a good match, but Simon rolled him in Melbourne. So you gotta like him again. Man, I hope Baghdatis pulls this out even though it doesn't do anything but in the contest for me. Much rather see him in the next round than a stiff like Querrey.Comment -

#163Just a note: This is a total WTF play because most of today's prices heavily favor favorites who I would not back at the price or play on single plays as per my own personal taste. Just wanted to get in on one decently priced dog. So, let 'er rip.
ATP - Brasil Open
*Bellucci +190 (Ferrero): Belllucci still shows the inconsistency of youth, but his talent is undeniable. He did struggle a bit yesterday with the qualifier, but his serve (18 aces) carried him through. JCF meanwhile had no worries with Dabul after a tough 1st round clash with Montanes. JCF was not sharp in that one and offered quite a few breaks opportunities. Ferrero had the nice run here to the final last year, but barely broke a sweat against inferior competition before Canas suprised him in the final. So, I'm not quite ready to annoint him as a return finalist here this year. Bellucci has always played well in Brazil (25-11) & has won his last 7 inside his home country. If he can repeat the solid serving days from Rounds 1 & 2, he ranks a shot here at good odds.Comment -

*Tsonga +160: I tipped Tsonga as the guy I thought could win this tournament if he could take out Nadal. Well, here we are. Nadal has been battling just to survive in the 1st two rounds, not what we'd expected. Bolleli really gifted the 1st rounder to him with multiple break chances, while Nadal just played tough tennis to win against the youngster in Round 2. Tsonga as expected bounced back from a tough straight setter in the opening round to whip Tursonov in straights. Pretty easy formula if Tsonga is to pull off the upset. His serve must be top notch & he has to hit a good share of winners to avoid long rallies with Nadal. The surface favors Tsonga for sure, so if Nadal brings anything less than his A-game ... I like the Frenchman here at nice odds.Last edited by EaglesPhan36; 02-13-09, 11:54 AM.Comment
