Ok, so here's my take on everything Warriorfan. You really need to get a job. Even if you want to be a pro, you're not right now. If you don't have a bankroll that allows you to make a living without ever betting more than 3% you are just setting yourself up for failure. Plus you seem like a compulsive gambler who lives for the rush (dropping $ you don't have on a sucker casino game). I'm just a newbie trying to learn the game, but the BR management stuff seems pretty widely accepted. Having a job will allow you to have money to live on while you SLOWLY build your BR up to the point where it's actually generating something worthwhile.
Let's say after a year or so you get to the point where your BR is 20K. 30 plays/month at 60% winners means $2628/mo. Still nothing to really live on, but not a bad investment. If you can live off your JOB, then you can slowly let it build up to the point where you can live off it. This means no chasing, no letting it all ride on one bet and never being in a position where 8 losses in a row will crash you. 3% dude, that's why you need a job.

          Symptoms of Compulsive Gambling:
Large amounts of time spent gambling and little time for family, friends or other interests.
Begins to place progressively larger and more frequent bets.
          Debts are growing.
Repeated promises to "cut back" on gambling. Compulsive gamblers are unable to stop their behaviour.
Lies about behaviour or rejects questioning about it.
Frequent high and low moods. If they aren't able to gamble, they may be depressed, restless or withdrawn.
Brag about their big wins and downplay their losses. Alternatively, they may keep both their wins and losses secret.
Show preference for gambling over special occasions. Gambling addicts may miss or be late for important gatherings and events.

Gambling is a psychological addiction. Pretty much anything can become a psychological addiction; exercise, food, sex, video games, you name it. The problem with gambling is that one needs money to gamble and that becomes a big problem if someone has already worked themselves into a hole and/or has no source of income.

That being said, I don't buy into the theory that addictions are life-long diseases. When you add the word disease, it becomes pure scare tactics. Caffeine is highly addictive, both physically and psychologically. Does this mean Sbux is raking a profit from a disease?

Sbux is profiting from a lifestyle or at least an image society see's as okay.

I must say this post is depressing. Is this guy still around or did he put himself out of his misery? I couldn't read anything past page 4......

Clearly the kid needed a job.....and a budget. If he thinks he can win long term he is nuts......it is impossible without strict money management skills. I used to fight these feelings and still live bet, but if I feel like I am going to chase I close my laptop and walk away.

dude your problem is not gambling it's the idea that you can make a living doing it. that's absolutely totally absurd. you can enjoy occasional or frequent betting/gambling only if you take it easy. don't freak out when you loose and then dump more money just to win back what you already have lost. relax and try to get back to the state of mind you had when you just started playing. it was fun and easy and that's why you were WINNING .if you don't enjoy it and it makes you and your family miserable then quit now. same applies to anything in life and is only enjoyable
in moderation without senseless attachment to it..well hopefully we just saved you years of therapy

my cousin was a compulsive gambler, his parents had to mortgage the house to keep a bookie from busting him up. sad and tragic. gambling like drugs and alcohol ...once you cant control it..it controls you.

Its good you realised, but you wont find peace till you stop chasing your losses. Ive kept my amounts small in comparision to my networth and annual income, but ive made a decision to never gamble again last night, if you win, you want to win more, then you lose, if you lose you want to win it back, so both ways gambling is a no win situation. Ive done it for entertainment, im better off than many people who have bet much bigger amounts, intend to be gamble free for the rest of my life, i think ill stand by my word and remain gamble free which will save me hundreds of thousands of dollars over time. Been adding to my investments gradually bought an apartment outright for 1 million dollars without taking a loan, and im saving a very high percentage of my annual income, so everything in place, im confident i wont gamble again, i have the will power and brains to stand by my word. Online poker is 100% rigged, sports is not easy, live casino is a waste of time, every form of gambling is in favour of the house.

                                                    1. Life is pressure. Gambling only adds to it. Some people do this for a high... some do it to fill a void in their life. Maybe 2-5% are actually very good at it. If things are hectic in your life... you need to step away. Rethink everything through. Get your rhythm back.

                                                    2. Women, GF's, Wives... etc. Have any of them? They are major distractions. LOL If they are also on your ass... you need to get rid of them. Period. LOL You aren't going to win anything with a nagging Bi#$# around. The only luck you have... is finding a chick who understands that gambling is full of pressures... and emotionally she can relate to what you're going through. But if you have a nagging B that says... TAKE ME TO DINNER... TAKE ME SHOPPING BLAH BLAH BLAH... how in the hell are you going to make your next play? it's impossible? It F's up everything!

Personally, I say F em. I'm here to make my own life sports wagering. If I want a Piece of ass... I'll get one. But ain't no B going to be on my ass 24/7 telling me what to do. You need to relax, refocus, and take the outside negative BS out of your life... whatever it is... that's probably what's effecting you.
