What about the Central News Agency of North Korea? What about the FARS News Agency in Iran? What about the stuff that comes from the Kremlin?

Have you ever actually watched Fox News or MSNBC? Two news stations can have completely different views on things. You have a very naive stance on this.
This is my problem with religion. It's so close minded. We live in America. Christianity is the predominant religion. Obviously we are God's chosen people and the rest of the world and every other religion is wrong...right?
All of the Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Mormons, and Jews are misguided and going to hell but WE, no WE in America are correct and have personal relationships with the creator of the universe. Only us and people that believe like us right?
The Bible is a perfect book of ethical standards even though it advocates slavery, beating and murdering children, and stoning women that have sex before marriage...correct?
That's ok though because if you're a Christian you can just cherry pick what you want to out of the Bible and ignore the dark and evil scriptures.
The Muslims in the Middle East that blow themselves up and run over children with cars haven't evolved that far yet and ironically they think what they're doing will bring them to God.....all that bloodshed over something that people can't even agree exists.
Thankfully this country is at least marginally educated.
When I see an ocean parted or a man walking on water I might change my mind. God is all powerful so I don't know why he doesn't make it obvious he exists....he could come down from Heaven right now and save the world but he chooses not to. He sounds like a jerk.

I'm sure Bobby is a good person but if he was born in Iran he would be a Muslim because that's the religion the news would promote and the news has to be true by his logic.

For instance what if (we will say God) did appear to you in lets say the form of a homeless man begging for some extra change. Would you "shoe" him away?
Perhaps the better question you could ask yourself is what could I do to increase my levels of awareness so I may better "see" these miracles as they unfold in front of you.

I don't think people understand Atheism. There is no concrete evidence to support any God, Therefore I do not believe.
If I saw someone walk in water, live in a wale, or part an ocean I would believe it. With that said, no one on this planet has seen of those things happen. It's only talked about in a fictional book that also advocates slavery and stoning women that aren't virgins.
The Bible was written when man thought the earth was the center of the universe. Hell, Man didn't even know the world was round at the time. The people that wrote the Bible weren't very advanced and didn't know how things worked. They were ignorant.
There are countless things that the Bible explained that have been disproven. We now know why it rains and snows. We now why the sun comes up and goes down. We know why earthquakes and tornadoes happen. None of it is God. It can all be explained.
Name one time that we can verify that something happened because of God?
We haven't discovered all the answers to the universe but the more intelligent we become, the less religious we are. That's why religious people have to push their views down people's throats. Religion is slowly becoming irrelevant.
Again, if you're seriously ill, you goto the hospital. You don't just stay home and pray hoping you'll get better.
Religious people cherry pick the Bible. Otherwise Christians would be stoning women that weren't virgins and would own slaves. We would be killing gay people. We don't do this though because our cultural is somewhat advanced unlike Muslim nations in the Middle East.

As I posted before, I am not advocate of any religious organizations. I do not condem any of those who rely on and believe in religion. The bible in my opinion has a whole other agenda and story that the masses just have not awoken to.
Prayer takes some action, you do not just pray then "sit" on the side lines so to speak and wait. No kidding nothing is going to happen. You must become the change you desire. If you sick, sure you can lie around and wait for something to happen, or you can do something about it. The internet has open the door to abundant sources of holistic ways to eliminate the dis ease in any situation.
Could that not be interpretated as a miracle?? Could this not of been some divine intervention?

It's hard for people to come to terms that there is not an afterlife and this is all that there is. It's also very hard for people to question something that they're taught not to question. Religion guilts people into not thinking. We question everything in life except religion....why? People are scared and feel guilty....that's the great power religion has over people.
What is going to happen in 50 years when Middle Eastern countries have finally figured out how to successfully produce nuclear weapons? These people think that they're doing God's work if they kill people. People actually fly buildings into planes and kill thousands of people because they think they are doing God's work. They think by doing these things that they're going to get 70 virgins in heaven.

I do listen, read and educate myself.
I was brought up religious. I've been to church a ton and read the Bible.
I always had doubts about religion and it didn't feel right about it but I blindly followed it bc people put fear in me to not question it. It was only after I started educating myself did I change my mind.
After I read more and more of the Bible it seemed like an evil book full of nonsense and contradictions. Then I started studying other religions and arrived at the same conclusions.
After I opened my mind up and looked at several beliefs and religions, it was easy to see that it was impossible for them to all be correct.
Even within Christianity and Islam people disagree. Catholics vs Baptists.....Sunnis vs Shiites. If there was a god, don't you think it would be obvious which religion was correct? There wouldn't be a debate. It wouldn't be confusing.
Depending on where you were born and raised shapes your beliefs. That means the majority of people that believe in God are still going to hell just because they were brought up Jew or Muslim and were misguided by which faith to follow. That's not fair at all. That's not a loving God.
Atheists tend to be quite educated on religion whereas religious people only know about their own religion.
There have been some good posts by Christians in this thread but I feel like I know more about Christianity than the majority of people I talk to about this topic in my everyday life.
People act shocked when I tell them I'm an atheist then they'll proceed to tell me they don't even goto church....and they don't even know many of the verses in the Bible.
If God existed he could easily prove it. Part the Pacific Ocean tomorrow and I'll believe.....instead, we can only read about these stories in an ancient book written by people that thought the earth was the center of the universe.
I understand why people want to believe in it. It's a nice story with a happy ending. If you're Christian you get eternal life after death with gold streets. If you're Muslim you get 70 virgins. It gives people false hope and comfort when loved ones die. I totally get why you would want to believe that.
