Yes it was a scary situation but it clearly wasn't dirty or intentional.

I wish Max Pacioretty a successful recovery. His poor parents must have been absolutely horrified seeing their son on the ice, but like I said it's a fast, rough, tough and violent sport. Anything can happen.

That hit happens 10x a game just in different areas of the arena. He had speed trying to squeeze by him. Chara didn't intentionally bury this guy.

there will be NO criminal action. this is very, very, very different from the Bertuzzi incident because of "intent". you can never know a players true intentions, that is something that is only in their mind. however, take a look at bertuzzi/moore again. bertuzzi tails moore, and based on his action of grabbing his jersey and throwing a punch illustrates that at the very least he is attempting to hurt moore to some degree. regardless of which team you support, it is clear that chara's hit was late, and that he interfered with a player how was clearly going to out skate him to the puck. chara is a class player. sure he may have had some motivation to beat the habs after patches' incident two games back, but it is not enough to INTENTIONALLY drive his face into the boards. chara is captain of his franchise and also his nations olympic team. he is not a scumbag, not a dirty player, and although his hit was very dangerous, it was not malicious.

one of my closest friends is a habs fan and we watched the game together last night. although we shuddered when we saw it, neither of us thought the hit is deserving of all the criticism. rent any don cherry rock em sock em videos and you will see at least a few of these hits into the banister near the benches. they are all awful, but many times a player has time to anticipate it and can get his arms up. the biggest thing that the league should be reviewing today is a solution to the boards between the benches and on each end.

for you canadians out there, you may have heard of a young man by the name of Aaron Moser. a family friend, i had the pleasure of meeting him once. he played hockey for the nanaimo clippers but was hit from behind 13 years ago and has been a quadriplegic since. i suggest you read his story. a teammate of moser's had this to say about spinal injuries:
(Spinal cord injuries) happen in hockey every year at all levels. Whether it's a broken back or neck, it's a reality in that sport," said Krause.
that sends chills down my spine, no pun intended. i have seen my own brother taken off in a stretcher after a hit from behind and it is scary to think that his statement is the truth. moser was hit from behind but no criminal action was taken against the player who hit him.

in the interview jacques martin did not accuse chara of intent to injure and i think that is important for you habs fans who feel that it was. martin is a good coach and not one to shirk the responsibility of defending his players. i wish chara had never made the hit, and even more that patches makes a full recovery.

i find it quite frustrating and sad that the concern of a players health turns into a "habs fans want to murder chara" conversation. rod, as this is your thread im directing it at you, think for a moment. is this issue really about montreal having a better record against boston, or which city is better? lets do hockey a favour and discuss the real heart of the issue.
