#11412have you come up with what constitutes your definition of athleticism? Because skating is a skill, not part of being naturally athletic. Like if you took a random person off the street, and they were strong, fast, and jumped high, with little body fat, you would probably think this guy would be solid at every sport (pick up games). I think Hockey is more about skill and toughness, two qualities which arn't part of being athletic, so you could probably put Hockey in your skill category, but not athletic category unless i'm missing something here...Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#11415one of the reasons lakers won last year is because gasol manned up against d12 last year unlike during the boston series where gasol went up soft against KG, kobe is always a big part of what the lakers do, he draws the double team of opposing defenses so it's up to the rest of the guys to make those open shots, kobe is being trapped most of the time against the boston series and when he passes the rest of the team throws up soft shots instead of driving it in. the team stepped it up big time last year to help kobe win that championshipComment -

#11420If Bynum doesn't dominate the center position, I don't think the Lakers can win this year with their pussy ass bench. Lakers are stupid for not going after Nate Robinson. They're in desperate need of a scorer off the bench.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#11421If vertical ability really constitutes part of the discussion you'll need to include AFL players in this debate. I'm watching footy right now and they're jumping in the air like monkeys. I've seen three guys already jump either level to or higher than the head of the guys marking them and that happens on a consistent basis. Plus they're running on a field at least 150 metres long and 130 something metres wide, depending on where they play. It's massive. They're tackling without pads at full force too. Sure the sheer strength of the tackle may not be as strong as a 900 pound NFL'er, but then again, they're not tackling guys that size so it's all comparative. The NFL'er wouldn't even make it onto the field and if he did, the majority of them would be so damn slow compared to AFL players, he'd rarely get the opportunity to tackle as they could just outrun him.
Not saying they'd be the worlds best athletes but I think they're another sport with better pure athletes overall than the average NBA player in my opinion.Comment -

#11424Shari,
your trippin lol. Chris Johnson (NFL Running Back) runs a 4.2 40 flat. I don't think any AFL player can do that. There are multiple guys in the NFL that can run a 4.2-4.3 40 yard dash.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#11425saying hockey isn't 'athletic' or whatever goat is trying to say takes away any credibility on sporting knowledge. Like he knows his shit tho, he's played backyard football in Motor City..... yep all those 'backyards' in the city. You're probably from some suburb like Auburn Hills living off your daddy's dollar and the only football you've played is with your poodle in the backyard.
Here's a picture of how fit NBA players are
Oh yes, I know I know it's only Oliver Miller, only one fattie in the NBA. Well Kevin Duckworth fits in this category too. I don't see him running many 4.3's.
Charles was in pretty good shape too!!!

#11426Orlando because they don't have a solid defender that can handle Bryant, and Bryant can roam as a defender while artest guards Carter. Offensively, Bryant would abuse Pietris/Barns. Mo Williams would give the Lakers serious matchup problems. And their frontcourt depth is too much for the lakers bench.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#11428I'm off to get you some stats about these AFL guys now.
And that's why I said the 'average' NFL player. Yes there will be guys who can run fast - hence they fill the position of a 'running back'.
But there's no way that of the 45 guys suited up each week, the majority of them would come close to Johnson's stat. 'Multiple' is relative when there are 53 guys on the roster and 32 teams. That's 1700 dudes. How many of them constitutes multiple?Comment -

#11434AFL on ballers > everyone else, when it comes to athleticism. some of these guys run 15ks per game (roughly 10 miles) while getting hammered into the ground nearly every time they touch the ball, they have to sprint in random burst (and some of the elite guys can do it just as fast as any of the NFL guys. the only point where NBA or (some) NFL players would have them is in verticle leap.
Takes a lot more skill to play AFL as well (at a high level)Comment -

#11436Well I'm having a bit of trouble here.
AFL measures sprints in 20 metres (21.9 yards) or 100 metres. The best record I can find listed mentioned this year is for a little below 2.75 over 20 with several players under 3 seconds. For 100 metres, there are several players under 10 seconds.
Obviously the longer the distance you sprint, the more time you have to build speed so I don't know how to compare Johnson's stat with these guys because you can't just straight double it.
Mother fukker. Wasted my time to prove nothingComment -

#11441Have you ever watched an AFL match, Goat? If you haven't and you're ever bored or need a sports fix, you should check one out sometime. It's pretty entertaining for the most part although it took me quite awhile to get used to the fact that every time the whistle blows, play is to continue instead of stopping it. Did my head in for ages.
I knew absolutely nothing about the sport until I moved here although I tried to learn a bit before I came because I knew it was a serious religion in the city I'm in. I sit in the box quite a few times each year for work and I'm still blown away at how these guys manage to do what they do for 80 minutes + time on on such a massive field. Plus they're rough as hell with each other when they tackle, and with no padding. I'm still waiting for someone to snap their friggin neck - in fact I was convinced a guy was dead on the field last week after a hit.
Honestly hope my son doesn't want to play it or rugby when he's old enough. Mental sport.Comment -
