#285Looking for some advice.
I am tempted to take these early odds on Hamlin and Gordon, for the $51 payout I need to punt again.
- Sprint Cup Motor Racing Showtime Southern 500 : Denny Hamlin +600
Risking $7.45 To Win $44.70 - Sprint Cup Motor Racing Showtime Southern 500 : Jeff Gordon +775
Risking $5.85 To Win $45.34
I don't expect either price to get much better, and both to probably come in if they qualify ok. And with the same day practice and quali system for these Saturday night races, I don't find I make a lot of good decisions based on practice times to make a better choice later anyway. Johnson is about the only other one I might be swayed to take in preference to either of these 2 based on quali performance, and he usually aint a great qualifier here.
I'd then probably look for a parlay paying about 13/1 close to race time for the remaining $3.70. (also looking for a $51 payout)
Alternatively, I could use the same strategy as last week. Look for a Group matchup bet I like and put 13 odd bucks on that to win the 51... and use the remaining few dollars for a few hopeful parlays.
I also don't mind Kahne and McMurray as smokeys at +3300 at this stage.
Any constructive thoughts appreciated..Comment -

#286Not sure Opti, but let me say this as a S.C. native, i love this race. And always the 1st driver who comes to mind there is Gordon. Always qualifies great there, and has won quite a few races there. I know he's not what he once was, but if i had to pick 1 track for him to win on this year it would be Darlington. As always i respect our group, and the picks we all make. Best of luck this week Opti/SoxWins.Comment -

#293How is everyone feeling about this so far?
If it's just bumming people out that we are losing, and the stakes are getting so low, we could change it up with a rule change.
We are down to half our starting bankroll. $18.25 each if divided by the 7 of us. We could continue from now with each player having an $18.25 stake to use any time over the next 3 races as they choose. Then see what our balance is then, and hopefully switch back to the current system if we are back up near the original $250.
I'm actually happy to continue as we are, even though we might end up with pretty small stakes if the slide continues. So am just throwing the idea out there for discussion... as the main thing is for this to be fun in my mind..Comment -

#295I agree the slide will end soon, I think we all know Nascar and have made some strong bets and just haven't had the luck with us yet. Being own to $13 isn't much to work with though. What about a minimum of $15 or $20 per punter instead of per person to use whenever. If we try to all use the $18.75 you mentioned over the 3 weeks I think we'll have too many bets against ourselves and be sure to lose.Comment -

#298I think the change to the qualifying rules, new tires and several races with 1 day practice/quali messing with our capping has been the main problem. 2 surprise winners out of 10 races hasn't helped either..Comment -

#300I'm thinking that might be an ok idea.
Although after a couple of days to let the sting of defeat reduce a little, and apparently no one else getting too bummed out yet, maybe just continuing on as we are is best for now.
We are only $122.19 down... just a couple of decent races and we could have that back I guess..Comment -

#301It started with the double file restarts and with the qualifying rules it makes it much harder. On most tracks I could eliminate all drivers who qualified outside of the top 10. Can't do that anymore. With all the drivers working one whole session trying to get top speed to get a better draw, you can't rely on practice speeds anymore. With the cars being so identical it puts a lot more drivers into the mix that can win and throws history out the door.Comment -

#302definitely been a bad handicapping year so far for a few reasons, but as the bad gambler I like to be I expect it to turn around and I'd even be willing to re-up some points and give us more play $$.....although I could trade in for a pizza insteadAs long as I think of it as free points and not real cash it's no big deal really.

#305Yeah, I think one problem with that is that Avssakic can't. And I don't think it would be fair to leave him with a smaller share of the final booty when we still have half our bankroll left.
But worst case scenario, the stakes after this race will go; $11, $8, $7, $6, $6, $5, $4, $4, $3....
So if we don't win this week or next week, we will have to do something I think.
Anyway, for now, lets just try and stay positive that Avs and Rickie will do well..Comment -

Also, a couple of people have said they would like to add to the pool, and one agrees we need to make provision for everyone to have an equal share if they can't pay now.
7 ways, it is 213 points each for an extra $100, or 483 each for an extra $250.
Just as fodder for discussion if others feels the same. I'm happy with the majority opinion on this. So basically if 2 more of you want to bump up the bankroll now, and no one is dead against it.... we can..Comment -

So Opti and Punters club.....are we using the $13 from the original plan or the $18.25 per punter that we have left? I prefer the $18.25 and if we are dead at $0 after 7 more picks than so be it, we re-bankroll and start over.Comment -
