Olimpija on Friday won their 3rd match in EBEL league but they are still on the bottom with only 6 points. No real improvement in their game, Graz was just a worse team in the final moments of the match so Olimpija scored few goals on fast counterattacks which was enough for final victory. Graz was actually a better opponent in first 2 periods but they couldn't beat Olimpija's goalie Chiodo so they eventually lost. Tomorrow a much tougher mission awaits Olimpija since they will host the best and leading team in EBEL. Capitals are 13-3 so far in the season (unbeaten on the road) which ranks them on the very top. Their rock solid defense is the best in the league, they allow less than 2 goals per match while they score more than 3 themselves. In their last match they have lost vs KAC despite taking the early lead. Before that they had 7 straight victories. But it's of no surprise to me, KAC is currently in great form, they have won 4 out of last 5 matches with new arrivals and change of their playing system. On Tuesday Vienna will play in Champions Hockey League, they are in for a tough job because they have to play Kärpät on the road, that's one of the best Finnish teams. Vienna's coach is saying he will go to Ljubljana well prepared with full squad because he wants to avoid another loss before playing in Finland. Ljubljana team is good for boosting morale as basically this is a match of David vs Goliath, Capitals are better in every aspect so I don't think they will lose this match. Olimpija lost 12 matches so far, 11 of them they already lost in first period when they got scored against. I think Capitals are a perfect opponent for this bet as they will come out strong to take a comfortable lead in the first period to control the lead and match from start to the end. Another bet I like is the totals for entire match. Olimpija only 4 times in the season played over 6. Despite the struggles they have a good goalie so they usually contain the losses within a reasonable losing margin. They have huge troubles scoring themselves so the totals stay under usually. Tomorrow I don't see Olimpija scoring more than 1 vs top defense in the league while Vienna should be comfortable with a couple goals lead and stop pushing after that.

        Picks:
        Vienna Capitals in 1st period @ 1.78 MarathonBet 3/10
        Totals under 6 @ 1.77 MarathonBet 3/10
        Olimpija Team Totals under 1.5 @ 2.06 MarathonBet 3/10
It went exactly as predicted, 2-1 Capitals after 1st, 2-1 Capitals final

        Euro hockey: 16-10 +19.63 units
        NHL + AHL: 19-14 +19.25 units

          Value in Avalanche betting live.

45 year old Dwayne Roloson comes out of retirement tonight to be the backup goaltender for the Anaheim Ducks after John Gibson was injured in warmups. Roloson works for the Ducks as a goaltending consultant. Jason LaBarbera is making his Anaheim Ducks debut as the starting net minder.

Karjala Cup: Finland - Czech Republic

Czech national team for Karjala Tournament consists mostly of players from Czech Extraliga, there will be no KHL players. Roster seems pretty young and inexperienced. Finland has a mixed team with some of the best players from KHL and Liiga, and some of the players to experiment with for future purposes. Since tournament is played in Finland and home team has a stronger team I'll back them up. Match is played on November 6th.

                    CHL: Tappara - Frolunda

Both teams are currently in good shape and dominating in their leagues so this should be a good match. Tappara will play without some key players because they are in national team for Karjala Cup. They will miss first goalie Metsola which should be a huge handicap since he is one of the main reasons of their success. Mäntylä will be missing in defense, he is one of the most experienced and their top defensemen. In offense Palola will miss, he is their most efficient scorer in Liiga and also in CHL. Frolunda will lend to Swedish team 2 offense players - experienced Lundqvist and young Janmark bu I think they can manage without them. It should be a pretty even match but home team with those important missings gives some value to back up Frolunda as underdog.

                    Pick: Frolunda ML @ 2.05 Bet365 3/10

                      Ligue Magnus: Lyon - Grenoble

A bit of statistical bet since there are good odds offered. Grenoble is the leading team in Ligue Magnus, they haven't lost a match in October, Lyon is average. They both played on Saturday, Grenoble crushed Caen with 8-2 and Lyon got shut out 0-5 by Epinal. Main problem of Lyon lies in short bench. They barely have enough players for 3 complete lines and some good players are missing (Trefny, Erikson, Gadoury). Grenoble doesn't have such problems, they have good team depth, just injury of Treille but he is out for a long time already so they have adapted.

                      Pick: Grenoble @ 2.00 Bet365 3/10

NHL: New York Rangers - St. Louis Blues

Rangers are facing major problems in defense as they are without half of their defensemen. Captain McDonagh and Klein have joined Boyle on injured list, Moore is suspended. Furthermore tonight they will go into match without Lundqvist which should weaken their game in defense much more. Blues started the season with mixed form but recently they have picked up their game and are back on the winning tracks same as last year when they were a regular season machine. They are currently at 4 straight victories which were won with solid defense as they are having some problems with injuries as well - Stastny and Oshie are missing in offense. They are still managing without them, Tarasensko scored 5 goals in last 3 matches. Given the Rangers' troubles and Talbot starting I think Blues should take advantage of it.

Pick: St. Louis Blues ML @ 1.89 MarathonBet 5/10

                                      Washington Crapitals
I'm thinking of giving another shot to Washington Ovechkins. Stajan, Colborne, Raymond, Backlund and Ferland are out for Calgary and nobody will convince me Flames are actually playoff contenders. They had some good games, Hiller was outstanding but I think Caps can win this. They are still hungry for victory, they blew another match with their turnovers and too many mistakes, Trotz is not happy at all so expect Ovie in 2nd line or something. Despite the losses they are able to find back of the net, just can't keep it out of theirs. They had a good first period against Coyotes but lost power in rest of the match. Both were playing back-to-back so perhaps this is also a reason and Coyotes were just more fired up to continue playing while Caps called it a night after 3-1 lead. Seems like Flames have nothing to play for tonight while Capitals really need a victory. The last time Caps have won it was in Calgary 6 games ago.

                                      Nashville Predators
Who are these Jets? They back-to-back shut out Rangers and Blackhawks on the road. 4-0-1 in last 5 matches, too good to be true in defense allowing just a single goal per match in average... I think they had their dose of outstanding performance so we can get back to the fading. Despite the solid defensive efforts lately they still have huge troubles scoring. Not saying Predators are so much better but with healthy Rinne they seem a totally different team. They won in Winnipeg with 2-0 two weeks ago and with two teams with solid defense should it come to Pavelec vs Rinne, currently the Finnish goalie is the one I would trust more. Totals under could also be the play.

                                      Ottawa Senators
Small lean towards Ottawa to bounce back at home. Detroit has been decent so far and Howard good but after the win they pulled in Pittsburgh a disaster like vs Buffalo was bound to happen. They won some but they played against teams which were struggling - Jackets, Capitals, Kings. Oh, Quincey is out with injury so on the second thought perhaps I shouldn't fade them after all.

                                        Philadelphia Flyers
As I mentioned earlier I hate backing up Flyers, they've been nothing but pain the ass betting on their matches for me but they pulled a victory vs Kings last time. They are struggling through season and tonight could be a good chance to bounce back a bit at home. Hall and Ference are out which should be a big handicap for Edmonton. Both teams can score goals as well as allow them in their own net (Flyers: 3 G/GP, 3.27 GA/GP; Oilets: 2.64 G/GP, 3.46 GA/GP) so this one has potential to go over.

Both European hockey matches today ended up winners! It means it's time to lose some on NHL:

                                              Philadelphia Flyers - Edmonton Oilers

I've been writing something about this match already. Both teams are playing tonight to avoid a losing streak of 3 and I think Flyers are in a better position to take the victory. Oilers are without Hall who got injured, it should be a huge blow in offense and he is their top producer. Ference got suspended so they will also be without their first defenseman. No Scrivens tonight, Fasth will get his start and he will play for the first time returning from groin injury. He was mostly playing when Edmonton was in a slump so his record so far is awful but one can hardly judge after playing less than 2 games. Neither of the teams has problems scoring but then again neither of the teams is good at keeping pucks out of their own net. I wouldn't fully trust Flyers but they managed to beat banged up Kings when I backed them up so they can't be that bad, or? Mason is back in net and I think Oilers are a good opponent for bouncing back infront of the home crowd. He actually doesn't have a victory yet so far in the season when starting so he should do well tonight.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers ML @ 1.613 Pinnacle 3/10

                                              Boston Bruins - Florida Panthers

Bruins despite the missing pieces in defense are still managing to win matches and hold their defense. A good customer over the past few seasons is coming to TD Garden as they have won last 9 mutual matches with Florida. But tonight Krejci is out as well so it doesn't look so good for them in the offense either. Luckily Panthers are scoring just 1-2 goals per match lately but they are winning with good defense when they manage to win. Mostly they played with teams which are struggling lately - Flyers, Coyotes, Avalanche, Capitals, Sabres, Devils... I think this will be be a defensive match where Bruins eventually take both points but I like Panthers to score less than 2.5 on Rask for my bet tonight.

Pick: Florida Panthers team totals under 2.5 @ 1.6 Pinnacle 3/10

                                              Washington Capitals - Calgary Flames

I decided to give another chance to Capitals. Despite the 5 straight losses they are able to find back of the net so that's a good thing. Main problem lies in bad defensive plays as they make too many mistakes and turnovers which allows opponent team to score on them. Peters disappointed me vs Coyotes but one can hardly blame it on him with defense like that. I watched the match vs Arizona and everything was going well in 1st period, Capitals were better. They scored 3 goals with good offense and powerplay realization, defense was tight but it all changed in rest of the game. Arizona came out strong and changed the momentum. Capitals seemed as if they have already ended the match after first. They were playing back-to-back so that might have been the case. Anyway, Holtby in net tonight, red allert to avoid 6 straight losses. Ovechkin scored again after he went pointless for 4-5 games, he just needs to stop playing "controller disconnected" defense. Flames are without Stajan, Colborne, Raymond, Backlund and Ferland which should eventually catch up with them. They had some good games recently and Hiller was just outstanding, playing games of his lifetime. Calgary doesn't seem to have anything to play for tonight while Capitals really need this one. The last time Washington won a match it was in Calgary 6 games ago.

Pick: Washington Capitals ML @ 1.636 Pinnacle 3/10

AHL: Bridgeport Sound Tigers - Norfolk Admirals

Ducks have both goalies injured so they recalled LaBarbera and Bobkov from AHL, leaving Admirals with 2 inexperienced goalies. They also recalled defender Bryan Allen who was sent to AHL for a couple of matches. Value in Sound Tigers.

I've been checking rosters and Norway seems pretty complete, also a nice number of players from SHL (Swedish elite league). French team has some standard players in their lineup but many are new. Given the tournament is played in Stavanger I think Norway will win this opening match and also win the tournament in the end.

NHL: New York Rangers - Detroit Red Wings

Despite the injuries/suspension Rangers played a solid match vs Blues. Tonight Lundqvist starts again, they get back Zuccarello and Klein so team is looking better already. St. Louis started scoring, Nash and Kreider are efficient, it seems all good on paper for their offense. Detroit is playing back-to-back, they lost a tight match in Ottawa yesterday. It will be 3rd road match in 4 days for them. They lack offensive efficiency on this road trip which costs them games. Could be indication of fatigue. Backup goalie Gustavsson in net as Jimbo played yesterday but he is solid as well. Last year Rangers won all 4 mutual matches so it seems the fast offensive game doesn't work well for Detroit. Neither of the teams excel in powerplay so when it comes to 5 on 5 I think NY has more chances. Not too confident but I think Rangers take the home victory tonight.

Pick: NY Rangers ML @ 1.85 Pinnacle 2/10

Penguins have the best offense in the league. They are scoring 4 goals per match as they are absolutely lethal on powerplay with 41.3 % realization which is by far the best in the league. Few days ago we saw a duel of the best offense vs the best defense in Minnesota and Penguins came through. Yesterday Penguins have resigned Fleury for another 4 seasons with an extension worth of $ 23 M so this is a big confidence boost for him as well as the franchise. When you are winning like that, absolutely crushing every opponent, the spirit must be good in the team anyway. Jets are riding a momentum of rock solid defense and good goaltending support. They are not scoring much but they are keeping pucks out of their net. We've seen Penguins play Wild which had a defense like that though. Jets are also one of the least disciplined teams in the league so this should give Penguins some oppertunities for their efficient powerplay realization. Over the last 2 years Penguins have won 4/5 mutual matches. Both teams are riding a winning streak but I expect Penguins to go on with it.
