I'm on your side for: Oak St., C Mich, Wisc., and Col. I can't see picking CAL and giving that many points....but I tend to stay away from any lines that are more than 3 TDs. I like 'bama, but that probably has more to do with UGA screwing me than 'bama actually being able to win it.

#143gopherbroke,
I appreciate your weather update...the way I look at is that I'm playing Duke against UVA...I think Duke is good and UVA isn't...I'm not sure the weather changes my opinion on all of that...I also believe when it's wet it favors the better offensive team because they know where they are going, the defense doesn't...seriously bro, have you seen Virginia play yet this year?...
O.K., granted, I have now had a chance to watch only 30 minutes of Duke football, but I'm not sure why this team--offense, defense, special teams or coaching--would have made your rather selective list of favorites to bet. They are tied 3-3, but this should have been no more than a fg spread, and I'm not sure which team should have been the favorite.
BTW, while Thadius Lewis might be a lot of things (i.e., a good student, son, brother, humanitarian, husband/boyfriend, father, etc.), it is a bit of a stretch to label him a "good" QB let alone a "flat-out stud". He has no touch on his passes. He has one speed: rifle. He appears to not be an accurate passer. He's not discriminate, though. He throws behind receivers, short-hop and sail his throws alike. It appears he has a difficult time recognizing coverages or feeling pressure. The coaching staff obviously doesn't trust him either, as you can tell they are scripting plays for him (i.e., "your first and only read will be the slot/back/end...", etc.).
There are some teams that seem to be terrific in the underdog role. Duke may be one of those teams, but IMO, they are not yet worthy of playing as favorites...anywhere...maybe to anyone...but surely no team in their own conference.
Hopefully they come out and play like their hair is on fire and this covers...I'm not holding my breath...I'm more worried about Mary pissing down their leg...Last edited by gopherbroke; 09-27-08, 12:46 PM.Comment -

Yes he has. The better question you might want to ask is have you seen Virginia play this year?
Coach wasn't born yesterday. He knows Duke football sucks, but he also knows that if Duke is a favorite against anyone then the other team must be pitiful beyond words. Here is where all that film watching comes in handy.Comment -

#152Very nice day, pags. Good work.
Apparently some of the peanut gallery took my post above as an insult. I think you know better.
Now, BuddBear, I don't care how many posts you have or how many skins you seem to think you have on the wall, I wasn't talking to you, nor was I attacking pags, so you have no reason to "defend" him. If you read a few posts above the one you quoted, pags DID ask whether I had seen UVA play, and I stated I had: vs USC. If YOU would have watched the 1H of today's game, you would seriously wonder which team should have been favored. The offense was terrible (especially Thad Lewis). The defense was scuffling. The special teams were sloppy. Some of the coaching decisions were suspect, most notably the decision to go for a fake punt instead of changing field position.
Additionally, had you watched the game, you'd also realize that UVA losing two of it's main contributors on defense in the 2H (most notably, Clint Sintim, who spent more time in Duke's backfield during the 1H than most anyone else on the field) had a SIGNIFICANT impact on the outcome. Injuries are a part of the game.
I'm glad the game hit and wouldn't call it lucky.
But if you think for one second that the reason "Coach" decided to play Duke was "he knows Duke football sucks, but he also knows that if Duke is a favorite against anyone then the other team must be pitiful beyond words", you just insulted the man you obviously hold in such high regard.
Again, very nice day today, pags. I appreciate your hard work and effort. You made me (and a lot of people) some money today.Comment -

#164Great work Coach. I really like how you did the writeup this week. It's truly amazing. I know you know that you are a larger than life figure in the gaming forum world, yet you also understand that you are part of a larger community and that we are all interdependent to a large degree. And yet you go out of your way, as a high profile posting leader in the gaming forum community, to share the insights and analysis of other posters. This is all irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that Duke got the cover. I did not even watch one moment of the game nor did I need to. Nobody was insulting you....i was just asking a rhetorical question. Coach knows what he is doing. Second-guessing is not needed and especially asking such a demeaning question like "have you watched Duke play yet"....of course, he's watched Duke play. In fact, he's watched every 1A team play this year. He watches film on all these games. But I understand where you are coming from Gopherbroke....Comment -
