Georgia opened as the favorite by the 2024 SEC Championship odds from our best  college football betting sites with new SEC member Texas close behind.

As Nick Saban rides off into the sunset, the SEC will have a new look for the 2024-25 season with Texas and Oklahoma both joining the conference where it just means more.

While Alabama is the defending champ in the SEC, this looks like Georgia's conference to lose with the Bulldogs the favorites by the college football championship odds. Kirby Smart returns a plethora of talent after winning the SEC Championship two seasons ago.

His biggest competition will likely come from Texas, which has a Heisman odds contender in QB Quinn Ewers. This is undoubtedly the toughest conference in the country with five programs among the teams with the 10 shortest College Football Playoff odds.

Here's our look at the SEC Championship market (odds via our best college football betting sites).

Favorites to win 2024 SEC Championship

Georgia (+220 via bet365)

Now that Saban is gone, his protege can officially be crowned the best college football coach in the country. Smart has racked up a 56-9 record in SEC play since taking over the Bulldogs in 2016, and that includes two SEC Championship titles in 2017 and 2022.

After stocking up on five-star talent, Georgia doesn't just look ready to win the SEC Championship, but it's poised to compete for its third College Football Playoff National Championship in the last four seasons.

Georgia is loaded on the offensive line and is led by QB Carson Beck, a favorite to go No. 1 by the 2025 NFL Draft odds, and Florida transfer Trevor Etienne. Defensively, Smart's one of the best in the business and has more than a few All-American candidates, including Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks.

Texas (+320 via DraftKings)

It appears Texas might be back. Head coach Steve Sarkisian led the program to its first College Football Playoff appearance this past season and the Longhorns rank 25th in the country in returning production, best among teams that finished in the top 10 of the final AP poll.

There's plenty of buzz around Ewers, whose arm strength has some projecting him as a potential top NFL draft pick. But for as much as Texas returned, it lost many of its best players to the NFL. The Longhorns had their top three pass catchers, top two defensive linemen, and top running back all go in the first 101 picks of the 2024 NFL Draft.

It only makes matters worse that Texas has Georgia on its conference schedule, too. Will all the transfers Sarkisian brought in be enough to fill the void left by the departing stars?

Alabama (+950 via FanDuel)

Nobody has any idea what Alabama will look like without Saban, but this is the program that won the SEC Championship last year and hired a new head coach with a proven track record. Kalen DeBoer turned Washington around in two seasons and inherits a roster in Tuscaloosa with a star QB.

DeBoer is clearly good at what he does on offense, he got QB Michael Penix Jr. selected eighth in the NFL draft after all. With Jalen Milroe behind center, a mauling offensive line, and a defense full of blue chips, the Crimson Tide still have a shot in the post-Saban era.

How to bet on the SEC Championship

As the college football season approaches, keeping an eye on which teams return the most production and who has added the best transfer portal classes can help give you an idea of which teams should be competitive. In the SEC, teams like Georgia and Alabama always tend to end up the conference champ. But with Saban gone and the conference moving on from divisions, it opens the door for other teams to compete.

Usually it helps if a team is returning a proven starting QB, like both Texas and Alabama are, or has added a ton through the portal, like Ole Miss. This is Georgia's conference to lose, but with additions of Texas and Oklahoma, it's only gotten harder to win.
