The Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers clash at Rogers Arena for Game 5, as we offer our Oilers vs. Canucks expert predictions based on the best NHL odds

Just when it looked like the Edmonton Oilers would fall behind the Vancouver Canucks in this second-round matchup, Evan Bouchard snuck in a game-winner with 39 seconds to tie this series at 2-2. Those two meet at Rogers Arena tonight for Game 5, with puck drop set for 10 p.m. ET on TNT.

The Oilers are -150 favorites to beat the host Canucks, who own the second-longest Stanley Cup odds among the eight remaining NHL teams. Can Vancouver score an upset win at home, or will Edmonton seize control of this series with a road win?

Accompanying our Rangers vs. Hurricanes predictions, here are our best Oilers vs. Canucks predictions and NHL picks (odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Oilers vs. Canucks predictions for Thursday

Leon Draisaitl Over 1.5 points ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Leon Draisaitl is feasting on the Vancouver Canucks like a famished farmer from the Medieval era eating for the first time in a fortnight. But unlike the famished farmer, a single feast won't nearly suffice for the Oilers' brazen beast. Draisaitl has 10 points in four games against the Canucks and leads all skaters with 20 points in nine playoff contests. Making matters worse for Vancouver, the deep-inside anger Draisaitl usually keeps under wraps has surfaced, thanks to numerous Canucks players.

I'm pointing the finger directly at you, Elias Lindholm, and you, Nikita Zadorov. Draisaitl's point production is fairly even, with four coming on the power play and six even strength. That's somewhat reinforcing, as the Canucks are doing a decent job of staying out of the sin bin.

The same cannot be said for their flailing penalty kill, which has a 50% efficiency rate in the series. Then again, facing the Oilers' power play is about as unfair as wearing lifts in your shoes and still not reaching the designated height requirement to ride your favorite rollercoaster. At -110, Betway's odds imply a win probability of 52.38%. A winning $10 bet pays a profit of $9.09.

Brock Boeser anytime goal ⭐⭐⭐

There's a good chance Brock Boeser is at the source of most Vancouver offensive forays. He is riding a hot hand, lighting the lamp on 28% of his shots in the postseason. Boeser leads the Canucks with seven goals, three of which were scored against the Oilers in Games 2 and 3.

It looked as though Boeser scored the late equalizer in Game 4, but his initial shot caromed off Dakota Joshua and in. At +155, a $10 wager pays a profit of $15.50 if it hits. The odds imply a probability of 39.22%.

Best odds: +155 via Betway

Connor McDavid Over 1.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It wasn't for lack of trying, but Connor McDavid failed me in Game 4. He only mustered a single apple, which, for his outrageous skill set, does not keep the doctor away. As arresting as being arrested, McDavid has now failed to notch at least two helpers in two straight contests. Where the playoffs are concerned, he hasn't gone three games without getting two assists since the opening trifecta of last season's first round against the Los Angeles Kings.

McDavid hasn't endured a patch of three games without a two-assist tilt since Jan. 6 to Jan. 25, an eight-game stretch that was as rare as a quiet airport in China. With a clear problem of acquiring secondary scoring, McDavid is logging more ice time, which should see him break through on the West Coast. Betway's +125 odds imply a probability of 44.44%, and a winning $10 bet pays a profit of $12.50.

Best odds: +125 via Betway
