I won't answer for EP but if you want to take a stab at a dog Giorgi isn't it.

Kohlschreiber has always struck me as a guy who consistently plays to the level of his competition. Love backing him as a dog, love fading him as a favorite. I think +175 ML over Tomic is generous and a solid play.

Mmm Tomic looks good out the gates other than against Nishikori & he is a stud at this tourney. If he remains aggressive, he likely wins. Problem with Kohli is not enough form to figure out his GAF (Give a Fukk) level. Tomic has raised his GAF level in Australia at least to start. Somewhat odd too that Kohli chose Sydney after playing Auckland for years & doing well there usually.
I dunno, match is a pass for me.

Careful betting WTA Hobart, rain forecast all day.
ATP Sydney Preview is up on the blog if you want to see the full version @tennispig
Here's a mini-view
ATP Sydney
The story of this tournament will be Juan Martin Del Potro, no doubt about it. Most of the bigger names played either in Doha or Brisbane last week and opt to skip this week in prep for the Australian Open. Del Potro got better each match last year in Sydney en route to the title. While winning a title probably isn't tops on his list this week, it's not all that unlikely if he is healthy. The field is fairly weak with Fabio Fognini as the top seed, David Goffin as the 2nd seed and Kohlschreiber and Benneteau rounding out the top four seeds. Seeds five through eight include Leonardo Mayer, Pablo Cuevas, Jeremy Chardy and Martin Klizan. This looks to be a wide open tournament.
Non-Seeds Excel
In 2014, both Sergiy Stakhovsky and Bernard Tomic made the semifinals of this tournament as non-seeded players. Stakhobsky ran all the way through qualifying into the semis. Qualifiers went 2-2 in their opening main draw matches in Sydney last year. In 2013, three of the four semifinalists were not seeded. In 2012, all four semifinalists were not seeded with two qualifiers making it. In 2011, there were two more unseeded semifinalists. See the trend?
Futures
Benneteau +900
Goffin +400
Tomic +1600
*0.25 unit on each future
Goffin was a waste, but that Tomic future has a shot. If Benneteau gets another round, possible tradeout for Del Potro but the price may not allow it.

Steve Johnson got robbed of that tie break. Shame. Probably would have taken set 3
Auckland desperately needs hawkeye.

It shouldn't have went to a tie-break at all - He was up a break in the second- I had a unit on him winning the second set if he had faltered I would have black-listed him immediately.

My radar was way off yesterday. This is a week that can be rough to predict. As beefcake mentioned, taking mostly qualifiers and unseeded guys is pretty sage advice this week it seems.

EP your not the only person whose radar was off - in hindsight looking at my picks I would have done something else - betting live saved the night for me (Pliskova- was a big help)

Yeah these weeks before Slams if you're not sticking to a flat betting scheme, you could hurt yourself. That's why I've been sticking almost all to just 0.5 unit bets so far.

Winning a bet has a way of swaying you! Night ended well after the early super breaker loss.
Proper that Anderson loses to make all the Finals seedless.

Remember for Day 1 of a Slam guys the old adage that Rome was not built in a day. Plenty will struggle the first day, me usually included in that mix. Don't chase. It's a two week tournament with plenty of opportunity. Make your picks. Enjoy the tennis. Hope you win a few!
