Some countries execute dodgers and deserters. 200,000+ men were charged with fleeing the US dodging the draft. Another 360,000 fled but weren't formally charged. Most went to Canada like Ali. Thousands of others went to Vietnam, then deserted once they saw what war was like. It's estimated that 50% of these men never came back to the US where they would certainly face arrests. Gerald Ford offered a clemency program, where you could come back, avoid prison but you had to work 2 years of public service. That didn't go over too well. Carter pardoned draft dodgers but never did deserters. The military kept searching for dodgers/deserters into the 2000's.

My dad fought in 3 wars. He was drafted, served then volunteered for more. He hated draft dodgers and deserters. He hated people that illegally found ways to avoid the draft. Most of all, he hated Jane Fonda (Hanoi Jane). It's impossible for you to tell me how I should feel about a guy like Trump.

I never accused you of recommending breaking laws. I merely mentioned that American men had no choice registering for the draft. This was not like driving over the speed limit. You register and when your name is called you go. Else you are a draft dodger. No one wanted to go to Vietnam. Every man wished they could stay home but it was a national duty.

Some men decided to dodge the draft. They had to leave the country. Many of them became citizens of other countries. That was their choice. I can't tell another man what to do. I do have a problem with Trump getting a doctor to lie and falsify records to get a medical deferment. It's not a big issue to you but it is a big issue in my family.
