#1822Outer Space is possibly just a 2d drawing for us to look at.
If this is proven to be true, I think it has religious and scientific repurcussions
that would destroy much of the scientific presuppositions of the last 150 years !
A new experiment could reveal whether or not our full and fleshed-out 3D universe is an illusion, a 2D projection onto a cosmic screen beyond our perception or understanding.

#1824Since your sincere here, I'll give you a green light on the question, Yes He speaks through situations, through people, through children, through our thoughts, any way He can if your listening, it's subtle, sometimes quick and to the point, if your not paying attention to detail it will pass someone right by. If one is distracted, loud, or just " not home " there's no way He can reach someone.. His Words are written with " the commands though " the greatest two are, love God with all your heart, mind, and soul and the other is love your neighbor as yourself...Comment -

See what I did there? No, probably not...intelligent design fans never seem to spot the gaping flaw with their assumptions
Copy and paste aside, logical fallacies pertaining to odds aren't the best argument to drag out on a gambling forum...but given your well-documented misunderstanding of them, color me not surprised
Hrm? Not saying you're pushing it on anyone; commenting that your original question (do you think grown men are taking time out of their day to talk about fairy tales) has a well-documented answer in this very thread.
Claiming something is real but you don't have to prove it is (rightfully) viewed as highly irrational behavior by vast majority of the world (religious and non-religious alike), but people seem to make an exception for their favorite fairy tales
You and others claim your beliefs to be true, and that non-believers will have their afterlife affected because of their mistakes. But you can't even exercise enough brainpower to realize that if you're mistaken, the same would apply to you? I think we can all agree that if "heaven" is full of idiots like yourself, it's not a place to look forward to visitingTo many zeros for me trip, but yeah, anything I say you won't believe so unless you see it for yourself, I guess it will just be unproven to some of you, what can I do there?

#1831If I'm mistaken, please explain how the same will happen to me. You're claiming there's no God, remember? So exactly who will punish me when I die for living a good responsible life following God's commandments?
It helps to remember your argument while commenting Tripe.
However, your belief system revolves around thinking your particular set of beliefs are the only truth, where everyone else's condemn them to hell. Pay close attention now...PER YOUR STATED BELIEF that your system behaves this way, when someone is wrong about it, they go to hell for being mistaken. Taking the microscopic leap in reasoning required, it follows that if you were wrong and someone else's similar belief was correct (the situation you described), your confidence in your place in an afterlife would be completely wrong.
All mockery aside, you might want to get checked for a reading disability, this seems to be something you consistently get wrong regardless of the subject.Comment -

#1832You said if I'm mistaken, the same will apply to me. My punishment for being wrong is becoming worm food? I don't think worms can eat through my casket but who cares, I'm dead & wouldn't feel the worms anyway. Is that the best you got?
Thanks for proving my point Tripe. If I'm wrong about God, I will suffer no consequences at my uneventful Godless death. Wish I could say the same about your eternal afterlife, if you're wrong pal.Comment -

#1834Yeah, that's a lot of zeros...but the point is that the "math" frequently trotted out to back intelligent design is flawed at a level even a casual gambler should recognize. Don't know if that's something you subscribe to, but I'd assume not...you seem to not need any explanations or proof beyond the bible and your opinions (no offense intended). But yeah, if you don't see a need to prove anything, and won't accept the scientific proof explaining your experiences, not much either one of us can do bud...like most of these kind of arguments, nobody changes their mind until they want to; converts away from religion when they want a more consistent view of the world, and possibly converts to religion when they get old, fear death and need to believe there's some purpose to life

#1835I do not owe proof, but it was given, my testimony, what I've seen, my mothers visions, you guys call it lies. What can I do if you don't trust what I'm telling you ? I can't help that, I've shown smart folks like John Dee a serious guy of his time under the queen, who made his choice to talk with false spirits and the dark side, I've shown atheist like C.S Lewis, very intelligent individual who crossed over and made his choice to serve the Messiah Jesus. There's 52 pages of information here, and 70% percent of it is worth a read...and deserves thought, if you think it's all a lie and everybody is just " believing " something they were told, your mistaken, and I wouldn't henge my life on such accusations, but it's your life do what you guys want with it..
cheers budd
Yes, atheists have converted, and religious folks have converted to atheism or other religions....people changing their minds is anything but uncommon. Some people choose to partition their rational thought processes and suspend disbelief to believe in a more comforting worldview for which there is no proof or reason to believe...but in general, far more people choose to throw off the irrational beliefs they were taught than choose to embrace them. Probably an inevitable consequence of communication making the world smaller and science explaining things we used to have to rely upon mythology like Christianity to explain. Exciting times for mankind, and even the charlatans like Ken Hamm will always find enough people to donate to their cults of irrationality, while the rest of the world keeps marching on.
The majority of this thread is just like most other debates on the subject, as could have been predicted at the start: religious folks claim they don't need any legitimate proof cause they just know it's true, and non-religious folks provide rational explanations which fall on deaf ears. The same has probably happened for hundreds of years as mankind slowly became less ignorant, and will definitely continue as long as there's an internet to make it so much easierComment -

#1842There are two explanations for the things your mother and many others have experienced. You and others claim it's proof of God working in mysterious ways, but can't offer any evidence to show why or how a God would be causing these things to happen beyond "I just know it's true and don't have to explain". On the other hand, science understands these phenomena very well, can explain them and reproduce them. Can you really blame a rational person for choosing the explanation that is proven in no uncertain terms to the one that just says "I dunno, God did it I guess, just trust me cause I won't prove it"?

Regarding your mom and others, the difference is you don't believe science can explain what they did. The facts are the facts though, and it can both explain and reproduce it...cold-reading is a pretty-well documented technique that anyone can pick up with a little effort. Facts don't require your belief to exist; they exist whether you believe in them or not, and they're available for us to evaluate and come to the logical conclusion that it's not divinely inspired, it's just cognitive misfires.
Science doesn't have every answer to everything, but dismissing the fields where science does have the definitive answers because of this is to choose to live in ignorance. That's OK and your choice to make, but you can't expect others to follow you there when the far better explanation is readily available and understood.Comment -

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Yes I do fear God but it's a healthy fear, and respect. I'm not perfect, I strive to be, but I've never been scared of to much of anything, I'm known for telling killers to fall back, I was that charging chariot that knew no ranks, it wasn't about fear though, it was being put on the spot, under pressure, that made me and didn't break me, I found out who I really was on the inside, under a grown mans choice, it was a decision, a conscience one...either side with evil and do some good on the account of evil, or side with good, I sided with who I am, a good guy... I never wanted to harm anyone in life, wasn't my purpose, I just wanted the stature, power, and so fourth, the game was just something I was good at, it fit with the environment, but I was living a lie, and it took something big for me to acknowledge that, but as for me being scared, no... It was the acknowledgement of the heart, and wanting forgiveness of God..
Thanks for the compliments, well appreciated raydog, cheersComment -

#1854Morality isn't the sole domain of the religious. I'd argue that a more mature and lasting sense of morality comes from understanding the principle of reciprocation that underlies morality in general, instead of the "do it cause some guy said so or you'll get punished" morality advocated by Christianity and other religions.Comment -

#1855CS4 paid the principal back, after constantly deliberately breaking his promises hundreds of times, and he continues to do so. If he showed any meaningful desire to live up to his word, I could be lenient; since he is determined not to, I won't and the forum is better off without him. Whether or not he finds common decency, via religion or via the common-sense realization that it's not cool to be a lying scammer, he needs to stop acting like a child. Regardless, it doesn't really matter; even if I let him get away with it and not learn his lesson, he's incapable of paying back even fair interest at this point.
He made a thread or two about it, and paid principle asking what's next, I'd say that's a desire to make things right. Forum better off without him ? Idk, kind of new myself but I didn't mind him.
its not about letting him get away with anything, guy has a toe tag underneath his name every time he posts, compared to other real stiffs that I've seen, don't think he deserves that treatment, so it would be appreciated if you could let him go with a reasonable debt of 3k or so..for the six months..
