no idea why baseball gives 10 year contracts to erratic 28 year olds (this is not trout)........ i think 5 year contract, at a significantly higher salary per year, works better for everyone.

has anyone walked away from later years of huge contract? i'm guessing there have been buyouts.

will trout have never done arbitration or free agency? pretty sure this is the new baseball model. arguably bad for the big market teams but of course other teams can dump their big salaries on those teams and they will still get good players. not sure they'll get the best players in their prime though (note: boston and nyy have great at developing players too)

just compare his stats with the first 8 years of albert pujols's. trout's lack of doubles stands out and all his stats pale in comparison to albert's. gets way too much credit for the walks he receives which inflates his on base pct. dramatically. he's solid and good but it appears the club has enough revenue flow to overpay him so they did.

Just because you dont understand WAR doesnt mean its crap lol Its probably the best statistic to measure a players impact in ANY sport.
Id rather have a guy .307/30/110 who walks 140 times a year. Trout is an above average defender and a significantly above average base runner. Pretty remarkable consdering his body type. Last year his OPS approached 1100 to go along with 191 WRC+.
