Thanks for asking. I was at convention for work. Walking thru cental park and prayed to find a way to move home to texas.2 weeks later got a 27 day at mercy hospital in cinti.Couldn t walk, talk, swallow or take a piss. When I first moved back to Texas the neurologist told me that I didn't have a stroke and was faking. After you finally got my records from Mercy he told me I'm the only one he knows that had a stroke there and still live. Sometimes you guys need to watch what you wish for. Good thing I didn't try to be hung like a brother

I have an old friend that was nearly killed by a mountain lion. There was a mountain lion killing livestock from surrounding farms and ranches, so he set out to hunt it down. He was on horseback and going past a brushy and wooded rise, he heard his dog growl and caught the flash from the corner of his eye. The mountain lion killed the dog with one swipe and then pounced on him, the mountain lion swiped him across the belly, deep. He got a shot off, but just in the air, wasn't nearly fast enough. It knocked him off the horse, the horse and mountain lion bolted.
He wrapped his shirt around him to keep anything from spilling out and managed to get to his horse. He rode several miles to the nearest house and got taken to the hospital. He was lucky to be alive, his dog was probably the one thing that saved him, slowed the lion enough for him to make some kind of reaction. He has a nasty scar and looked like what you would imagine a mountain lion gutting would look like.
I know a guy that got gored by wild boar his leg was messed up

Hopefully there's an autopsy performed and the public can figure out what he died from. That info may help other hikers.
Methuselah is a 4,849-year-old[1]Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) tree growing high in the White Mountains of Inyo County in eastern California.[2][3] For many years it was thought to be the world's oldest known living non-clonal organism, until it was superseded in 2012 by the discovery of another bristlecone pine in the same area with an age of 5,067 years (germination in 3050 BC).[4]
Hopefully there's an autopsy performed and the public can figure out what he died from. That info may help other hikers.
yes, it might be fall related, might be hypothermia, probably not foul play, but that still is a remote possibility out in the brush.... doubt it's intentional self infliction, but figure the family will share what, if anything, they feel comfortable with. certainly respect their privacy....

I would think slipping trying to get close to pines on a slope and took a bad fall .
Whatever it is tragic , I have been reading about this guy and he was well liked and respected. Why do all the good people pass too young?
Sad for the family and everyone that knew him and of course all the forums he has visited .

Prayers and thoughts are with his family. In my personal opinion, I felt Dave was the best writer that has ever blessed his/her presense on this site...I looked forward to reading his daily articles and listening to his spots on Pauly and Mitch on vsin on my way to work.

Still hard to believe and grasp as reality. Was talking to him just a few days before he went hiking.
Rough times.
Let's all bag a couple of winners in the Professor's honor today and for the rest of time.
RIP Mr. Malinsky, you will be missed.

Amen brother. I like your attitude and share the same sentiment. I took (had to) a long walk up to the sportsbook this morning to try to clear my head from all of this thinking just that and banged the Cardinals and Astros in Dave's honor. As I walked, I looked up at the mountains where he went and it seemed so silent despite the nearby traffic. I think they will be the Malinsky Mountains in my book from now on. Anyone following his/her heart and spending valuable Time to be with a kindred spirit like a thousand-year-old sacred tree is more than a man and more like a mystic. Also, when I was walking to "clear my head," I almost git hit by a car speeding through an intersection where I had the "WALK" sign and cursed the world that you can't even walk these days without having to paying attention every millisecond.
In the end—with all of us not knowing when our last day on Earth will be—if you were asked to choose between spending it free and doing something you relished more than anything, being employed and good at your craft and loved and respected by everyone in your world, or to simply get to spend Time with your loved ones and your dear Mother (and/or Father), having simply one of these realities would probably be satisfaction for any of us. Dave Malinsky had all of these on his last day.
R.I.P. Dave. You inspired so many of us and will sorely be missed. Gonna "bag a couple of winners in the Professor's honor today and for the rest of time." Respect.
