I find it hard to believe he would pull a disappearing act and have all these search and rescue resources wasting their time and possibly putting others needing help at risk. I can’t imagine he would do that, he seems totally genuine. This is very strange and also very sad.

Not necessarily....I had a friend call me for drinks and he never showed or answered his phone. Found out later he shot himself. People do crazy shit and the bottom line is no one knows anyone really.
