Not really a gambling scene, but it definitely has some betting lingo. One of my favorite movies too. I always fire up this scene during a really bad streak:

New Will Ferrell movie, the House about Couple in the Burbs looking for quick money. There is a scene where Will catches a mechanic cheating at cards and does a parody of Casino where they threaten to smash his hand.

                                  Diggstown?

Boy, does this wear a guy out. Trying get this movie--recommended--on youtube, and all I get are free trailers and confusing bs after that.
Can anyone direct to a free-full-movie and not be conned into some sales hs?
                                  Thanks for you watch.

Not that it's the best one by any means, but I always enjoyed the scene in The Hangover when Alan wins $80,000 at the BJ table.

That's a fantastic movie with fantastic gambling scenes because they don't rely on the typical Hollywood cliché where the hero wins in the end because he gets that one card he needed on the river to complete his straight flush to beat the other guy's 4 of a kind or some other such nonsense.

It is very believable. In the beginning Mike loses when Teddy KGB turns his top set into aces-full to beat Mike's 9-full. Mike was losing the whole way and got outplayed, he didn't lose because a miracle killer card fell on the river.

Similarly, during the movie's final scene, Mike flops the nut straight. The turn and river were blanks. It was not a situation where Mike was losing the hand and hoping for that one card he needed which, in true Hollywood fashion, he would get on the river.

I LOVE the Cincinnati Kid, especially the subtle underlying elements in the film, but it's a character driven movie set in the south in the 1930's focusing on two top poker players and the big game. One of the underlying points of the film is how The Kid won't fool around with Shooters wife Melba even though she practically throws herself at him, but then, once Shooter disgraces himself and his long had reputation of a "straight shooter" by dealing a rigged deck, The Kid no longer has reservations about sleeping with her, only to be caught by his girlfriend Christian, who in spite of that waits to console him outside after he's been wiped out and destroyed by Lancey at the end. It's a GREAT film, but The Gambler is a movie much more about gambling itself with all the Dostoevsky applications and much more realistic. Actually, The Cincinnati Kid is one of my favorite films (especially since I'm a poker player), and McQueen and Robinson are legends.

But everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I knocked someone else's choice of The Sting as a top gambling movie for various reasons, but that doesn't make it gospel.
I watched the director's commentary of that movie, supposedly the director's cut was that he was going to lose everything even his girlfriend, but they didn't want people going home from the movie theater killing themselves, so they added that scene at the end when his girlfriend comes back to him.

Watch the director's commentary on DVD good stuff
