Nice work fellas! Sonny do you do more research on the games themselves or on the lines and movement? Where is the best place to analyze college basketball games?

Naw, sharp money is when one team has a higher percentage of the public on them, but the line still moves in favor of that team. If the line moves in favor of the opposite team, then that is to be expected because the books would want to balance the money on each side and public steam on one side would push the line in favor of the other team because the book is trying to get more money on the other side. However, if the line moves in favor of the team that the public is favoring heavily, that most likely means that a large amount of money was placed on the non-public team, and disproportionately large amounts of money is usually sharp money.
So you would try and piggyback on the sharp money by taking the non-public team, even though the line got a little worse for them.

not sure i agree with this
you said sharp money is on the side of the high percentage public betting in the first line...then your last sentence says piggy back sharp money on the non-public side...
the SQUARE (public) money is when it's steaming on the popular play (usually favorite)..i think you mean SQUARE not SHARP in the very first sentenece right?
either way when the line moves from -3 -105 to -3 -110 you can't really tell from looking at a line history how much money is being bet at a time and by who?? a majority of the public can move a line ("steam") however the public who goes to the windows to bet may not be the "sharps" who are dropping 4 or 5 figures in a single bet.
Was wondering what the fam's favorite play of the night was? I know Sonny posted a gang already but any favorites of the bunch?

take Florida St. @ Michigan St. this evening.... number opened @ -5.5 and now sits around -7.5. If that line drops to -6.5 at 6:15pm then I'd say it safe to assume those are sharp dollars coming in.

Huh??
Lines move usually in conjunction with the amount of money being wagered on any given team. If team A is a 20 point favorite and 75% of bets made are on them and the line moves in their favor the idea is to entice those bettors who were on the fence about team B to act on the "better number"
If team A is favored by 5 and the money appears fairly even, yet the line moves in team B's favor the "idea" is that sharp money is coming on team B - joe public bets 25 bux a game whereas "sharps" bet dimes. What would you be afraid of? 75% of wagers made at 5 bux a pop or the 25 percent made at 100?
If team A is favored by 10 and has 75% of the bets yet the line moves the other way this is an example of RLM - the idea is that the heavily favored public backed team (who vegas love btw) are getting TOO much respect, something that joe public is blind to and sharp players pounce on.
And then theres times where you just dont know what the fukk uncle sal is doing there in vegas.

Couldn't be farther from the truth. I almost always get the lines at the same number as Buck and Sonny and have gotten them a few times at the wrong end of the line and still won. They post when they get them. If you use a local bookie like I do then your lines are going to differ than that of the off shore ones. You just need to have one sharp account like Pinny and one Public Account like Bodog to shop the best line and you should be able to get similar numbers.
So suggest anyone is trying to increase their record by shaving a point is blasphemous. I talk to Buck on a daily and what they do for everyone here is a favor that we're all grateful for and never asked for a penny or pretended to be something their not. You don't have to pay homage but don't come around talking reckless because you're not Charlie Sheen #winning, at the moment.
People that hate or that bring nothing constructive to the table if they have an issue are just trying to pull others down in order to pull themselves up. Similar to someone drowning. You go to rescue them and they're likely to pull you down in order to pull themselves up to save themselves. Stop being a girl. "Males shouldn't be jealous, that's a female trait"

I think we are on the same page, we just have different ideas of what it means for a line to move "in favor" of a team. When I say a line moves in favor of a team, I mean the line moves in a way that makes it easier for that team to cover. So if a team starts out -5.5 and then moves to -3, the line moved in their favor. If a team starts out +10 and the line moves to +12.5, the line moved in their favor.
So lets say there's a matchup between Team A and Team B. The line opens at Team A -3, and the public is heavily on Team A at, say, 80%. In the normal scenario, you would expect the line to move against Team A, to -3.5, -4, -4.5 and so on, so that the books get more money on Team B to balance. Instead, the line moves to -2 or something, making it even more enticing for the public to bet Team A. One thing that would explain that would be sharp money coming in on Team B.

I didn't mean that the public team was the sharp side, I just meant that an example of sharp money at work is when a team is heavily public-favored but the line still moves in a way meant to attract more money to that team, instead of moving the other way to get more money on the other team, as would be the case when the books do not have an angle or when there is no sharp money.

Don't play. When I'm conflicted like that I just stay away from the game altogether. Although I'm on UNLV today. Hope the line keeps dropping till near tip-off.
