Bryant is one of the best 1 on 1 defenders in NBA history, so that statement doesn't really make sense. Bryant has the right to scream, pound his chest, do whatever- he is the best player on the planet, and one of the greatest athletes in the history of all sports. Why did Jordan always stick his tongue out? Who cares. He is the best ever. He can do on the court what needs to be done to win

This post pretty sums it up. Kobe has amazing focus, is a proven winner and gives his best in the court because he likes to win. You can't ask anything more than that.

Why has this turned into a Kobe thread? No one is comparing Yao to Kobe.

Now, back to the main subject of this thread... I wonder what kind of stats Yao will be able to put up playing only 24 minutes. 16pts, 6rebs, & 1 blk?

Rockets could easily make playoffs this year w/ or w/out Yao

He's done but at least the Rockets still have a decent team. It's a shame that these big guys can't play in the league for longer than a few years.

Last time I watched the Rockets they seemed like a really deep team, played a lot of guys. I think if any team could make this work it would be the Rockets. I commend them on how they have handled the transition from the time that McGrady and Yao first went down. I was really expecting some lean times for them, but they have actually done well. And Adelman has impressed me as well.

Seems to me the hard thing will be finding the right 24 minutes for Yao to play, assuming he can really make a go of it. I would think they want him in at the end -- but if he sits too long night after night that won't be good either. Maybe they don't start him.

Anybody think McGrady still has some game?

This is a smart move by the Rockets.

They should make the playoffs this year and you don't want to risk your star player breaking down after a long injury. What's his career mpg? can't be much more than 32 or so anyways

Of course. Every (with exceptions) NBA player works extremely hard on his craft for years. By having slightly more god given ability, and by coincidence ending up in a slightly more conducive situation for wining championships, he has won 5 and Yao has won 0. It's not like one is a god of sport and one is an elementary school player. The differences are so minimal, it's mostly coincidence that KB has 5 and Yao 0.
