NBL
Going to hopefully make a comeback in my NBL, been getting unlucky on a few plays.
The Kings have been playing great ball and they play the Breakers better than any side other than Perth. The issue here is the Breakers said they were 'embarrassed' after losing to the Kings in Sydney, they will be coming out hard in front of their home crowd (most likely sold out) but I feel they will overplay and come out flat. I have bet against the Breakers in recent times and have looked good until they back door cover, will be praying that they do not have a lights out 4th and the Kings continue their good form to keep it close. agree, has become tougher over the last couple of seasons ... think its a bit to do with the general standard of play / player in the league dropping as budgets have tightened up ... this season in particular is tricky with two teams (perth and nz) who are head and shoulders above the rest of the field but tend to pick and choose when they give max effort.
None of the rest of field is playing solid ball this season so its been hard to get a read on situational spots that would normally warrant a play on a certain team. Would be great if the league was TRULY even across the board so you could trust a good angle to back a side when it came along.
Books have well and truly adjusted their totals downwards this season too ... average score per game this season is a putrid 150 (equivalent to 180 in a 48 minute game) ... a far cry from 2005/2006 when the average score per game was 205 (or 171 in a 40 min format) ... again, that's got a plenty to do with the lesser class of player running around in the league now and also a generally poor level of coaching that currently exists imo.
Until this season you could usually find a matchup with a total in the 160s that had no business being there and back the under with a genuine edge but the books have really tightened up now and numbers in the 140s and low 150s are the norm.
would like to think we'll see a bit of reversion to the mean so to speak in terms of scoring in the back half of the year because despite the drop in playing standard, I still see no reason why scoring should be as low as it has been thus far .. but backing the over in this league is truly white knuckle stuff given the number of games that include a quarter where the offense just completely dries up and less than 30pts are scored. I've only done it about two or three times in the last three or four seasons and its never been fun to watch as the time drains away faster than the scoreboard moves.Last edited by Bull_Shark; 01-24-13, 11:44 PM.Comment -

I hate taking the most obvious/public play on the card but I really feel like the Warriors get it done on the road in Toronto. After losing two straight road games in really underwhelming performances I think GSW will get it done here. Against the Bulls they struggled from 3 point land and against the Buck their big's (namely David Lee) struggled, I think that GSW's full offense will be synced here and working as usual against a not so impressive Raptors d. With Lowry having troubles there is going to be some serious pressure for play making on the second unit for the Raps, Jack should do work against Lucas. I expect Carly Landry to have a solid offensive game coming off the bench and doing work inside. Rebounds will be a huge advantage to the Warriors, I fully expect them to come into this game motivated and control the game till the end.Comment -

Locking this in now before I over think this game or talk myself out of pulling the trigger. I am rolling with the Cavs to beat a Warriors team who are playing their 4th game in 5 nights and are at the end of their road trip. The Cavaliers have not lost at home since January 5th and are on a 3 game win streak - during this win streak Irving has been averaging an insane 35.6 points per game. Although Irving's scoring has been impressive the most damaging player in my opinion is Tristan Thompson, who over the last 3 games has averaged 17.6 points and and at over 50% from the field, it is clear his confidence within himself and the Cavaliers offensive system is growing. The Cavaliers have also boosted their bench with Speights and Wellington who are both productive, especially Speights who is a well needed big that can score efficiently in the paint. The Warriors are always a tough customer with so much fire power, however their star Stephen Curry is out with his usual ankle issue and I highly doubt he plays. That been said Jarret Jack is an excellent replacement and he must be contained. Lee is another player that if contained puts a big strain on the offense of the Warriors. T Thompson will do a solid job on him with good length and athleticism, he will make Lee work - he also has good movement and is comfortable playing higher up on the elbow where Lee likes the ball for his mid range J. Both teams don't offer much on the defensive end, all of the Cavaliers wins have been them scoring 95+ and usually require 100+ for the win. It will be a shoot out and a battle of offensive possession, I think the 4 games in 5 nights could be the deciding factor as GSW have slightly less fresh legs.Comment -

Thanks man and welcome to the thread. I was really hot early on the season up 40 units, then I hit a cold streak and was down to 17-19 units but clawing my way backup. Nervous about the Cavs because they can blow leads but they are hot, GSW have some key injuries Curry/Barnes...quietly confident.

word out on Rotoworld that Kyrie missed morning practice with "illness"...gametime decision...I decided to keep my tail TRD because Curry and Barnes are out...that is big too and the 4 in 5 is tough...short bench for GS gets tired...Think Cavs at home can still win without Uncle Drew.
I also added a half unit on the under although after the line dropped a bit
