I always think those are situations which you are screwed if you do, and screwed if you don't. The 3 horse had put up its huge speed number when she got to lead early, and without a contender got bold and ran away with it. There was no early speed in this race other than the 3, which I made it seem like she was going to have the same trip and was a good bet.

Had the 6 challenged for the lead early, which it might have, it would have drove the 6 and the 3 into oblivion, and the 4 probably would have had an easy victory pass when the horses tried.

But my point just being, you challenge the 3, and you both lose, you sit back, and the 3 run away with it... screwed either way...

This is an excellent point. Its just frustrating to try and predict, since I have been on the other side of the bet in a contest many a time, with the only early speed horse and had other horses kamikaze it. In fact that usually seems the case.

Agreed. Particularly in a race with lightly raced 3 year olds. Sometimes the horse just decides that they are going for it early, or sometimes the trainers tell the jockeys 'don't let that horse (the 3) run away with it' and by the quarter pole both horses are so tired they come accross the wire last/second last. I think I was also affected in this play since I felt like the 4 may have been in for a tune up... or atleast I think they trainer might have said something along the lines of 'if she wants to win let her, but no need for an all out effort'.

Well I don't know if the past 2 races really tell us that, both races told us that if you don't pressure the lead runner at all, that horse will easily win.

I kind of think that is the case on any surface, and at just about every distance.
