Win or lose, you have to admire how hard his offspring try. A lot to be said about that.

That is a good race! Several that are live in there. He finally gets off the fence from the gate. That should be interesting in itself. He usually shows up and today is probably no exception. He can choose to lay just off if he wants to. Off that last race, why not.

        Thanks JBEX.

          np str

has the best speed imo but if somehow they beat him to the lead could sit off the pace.. nice luxury to finally be leaving from an outside post after the amazing string of rail breaks ..agree it is an excellent race with a deep field

A well balanced field was indeed what we saw yesterday. World Record ran well. The winner just ran a little better and had a nice pace setup to run into. World record did about everything right. A moment late switching leads turning for home but I am knit picking. He hung in when headed, dug in all he could and got beat a nasty nose in the last jump. All in all he ran fine.
Maybe if he had been down inside with the one post.... Ah , just kidding. It was nice to see him have a decent trip even though he lost. He is a hard trying horse. A pleasure to train I'm sure.

yes I thought a nice effort also str..he was closer to the pace than the winner and held well to finish within 2 lengths..I wonder if Prat had it in mind to stalk/ press going in or it was a depending how things unfolded after the start kind of thing..maybe WR was a little slow from not being used to breaking from an outside post..all speculation of course

for the most part with a few exceptions I'm
not going to follow liam's map daily..have a history with AM going back to breaking his maiden first out and because he's a newer sire there's a lot less volume than LM .. it's easier to just follow him ..may miss some AM,especially at smaller tracks, but his progeny will be my focus..that being said am FIRMLY CONVINCED LM is an excellent stallion

When there is not a necessity to make the lead for sure, and you are outside like he was, meaning with speed inside but maybe outside as well, you typically ride away and see what is going on. You let the flow and the position dictate exactly what you are doing. I think that is what happened here from what I saw of the rider. And he was fine where he was. The closer just ran a great race to beat him. And yeah, literally the last jump he was nipped by a dirty nose for 2nd.
Obviously, being inside does not allow as much for that but outside does. That is what it looked like in that race. All in all, I thought he ran fine.

that's what I thought you'd say relative to the way prat rode him..he's now got the versatility to come off the pace if a race unfolds that way which is a good thing

has had a very nice year and having raced 7 times this year have to think they might be considering giving him a rest either now or maybe after one more as a 3yo..regardless be interesting to see how he and deterministic fare as 4yo's ..think there's good things ahead for both of them and still hoping to see the latter on the dirt at some point next year..add chancer mcpatrick to those two also .. should be fun to watch

The day before Thanksgiving. I am taking the day off. Sitting here just thinking about Thanksgiving and a young man from waaaay back popped into my head. Thought I might tell the story. The kids name was Tommy McNallan. A 20 yr. old kid that was probably 4ft. 10"and weighed about 105 lbs. He walks on the track , wants a job and wants to become a jockey. He wasn't a half bad little athlete either. Playing a little basketball can show me that and he was alright.
A lot of young people gravitated to my barn which was growing in size each meet mainly because I was so young and darn near everybody working for me was in their 20's . All the other barns were much older people both the trainer and workers.
So I give him a job walking horses and he starts from the beginning. A good place for him to start because he knew literally nothing at all. As months went on he was trying and it showed so I let him ride the pony around the barn one day. Man was he happy. Half the workers stayed around to watch him and support him. It was a cool group of people that worked there, like I said, mostly young, guys and girls, black, white , whatever. We did not care. Only cared that you cared about the horses and your responsibilities. And that worked very well.
But as time went along, it became obvious that Tommy was drinking hard liquor after hours and a lot of it, after work. I figured I would let it have a little time and see where it went. But it did not improve. Probably got worse.

I sat down with him one morning and talked to him about it. He said he was having problems with his parents back home and it was personnel stuff. I respected that and suggested that he maybe take some time off and go home to see what could be done and hopefully get himself and his family stuff worked out. I told him that if he had not been drinking, he would be on some easy horses by now, maybe jogging them the wrong way or an easy baby in a set of three. Certainly something. So the plan was for him to go home, straighten things up, including himself and the drinking , and come back fresh and ready for the next step.

So he heads for deep down Virginia for the Thanksgiving/ Christmas month to see his mom and dad. The plan was, see you by New Years. Well, New Years comes around and no Tommy. About a week goes by into January and I get a letter handed to me when I arrive one morning and go through the stable gate. It is from Mrs. McNallan who I had never met. It's still dark and early, probably about 5:30 AM in January. Track didn't open until 6AM so I sit in my car and and open it. She writes to tell me that Tommy was out and walking home at night and was hit by a car and killed. Apparently he was drunk and walking home and walked out in traffic by mistake.
Now, I'm like 22-23 years old. Probably have 20 employees, maybe more, IDK, and they all liked Tommy as much or even more than me. All of us waiting for him to walk through the gate and come back fresh. I honestly do not remember much else that morning except having to tell all my help that Tommy was gone. About the only silver lining in that was that his best friend who had had a lot of family tragedy's in his young life, swore off ever drinking again in Tommy's honor. And as far as I know, he did. He left the track I guess about a year later. No idea what ever happened to him but hopefully his story was a successful one.

I guess the moral to the story is, with today being Thanksgiving Eve, getting ready for the holidays season, make sure you reach out to your family or friends and just say hi. Give them a hug, a high five, or whatever. Heck, if it is your older brother who used to playfully smack you around until you got big enough, give him the finger or drop an F bomb on him. Whatever. But give it a try if you weren't thinking about doing so. One of the best parts of life is friends and family. Not only for them but for you/ all of us as well. I think I will practice what I preach this year as well.

It's funny the things that pop into your head around this time of year. I mean, Tommy McNallan. Holy cow, almost 50 years ago. I have no idea why I remembered that. Makes me sad to think about but I guess I'm glad I did remember that. He was a good guy. But he had problems.

Sorry for the bummer story but let's try and use it to feel good about something. Call an old friend, or mom and dad, brother or sister over Thanksgiving. It will make you feel better. And now I will take my own advise.

All the best to all of you that read this thread.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

has had a very nice year and having raced 7 times this year have to think they might be considering giving him a rest either now or maybe after one more as a 3yo..regardless be interesting to see how he and deterministic fare as 4yo's ..think there's good things ahead for both of them and still hoping to see the latter on the dirt at some point next year..add chancer mcpatrick to those two also .. should be fun to watch

Not sure but Bradshaw was 12 and Marino was 13. Something with that?

Wait... Bradshaw won those 2 Super bowls right?
