.
I didn't spend a ton of time on the racer but this horse certainly has a decent chance and if it improves going two turns like the other Liam's Map's have, he fits right in with these IMO.

Thanks JBEX.

Happy holidays to you as well Madison. My grandkids are 8,10,12 and 21. My oldest son went to stud at an early age. Lol. Nothing better than grandkids and I never understood that until it was my turn. I felt the same way about leaving the world in better shape but my kids assure me it is actually just fine. While it doesn't always seem that way, if they all say it is, I will try and think along those lines. If nothing else, and because we can't do a darn thing about it either way, it makes it all easier I guess.
All the best to you and your family Madison.

Yes, they were all just a bit younger than I was. Like 2,3,and 5 years younger. That is real close if not dead on.

When I left in 1976 to start my own stable I was 20 years old. That made Tony about 18 and he took my spot as asst. trainer while Rick and Chip were grooms then. They all were everyday workers at that point.

.
That pace is outrageously slow. How the rider did not know to move up to attend it is mind boggling. I trained my share of bottom level claimers and do not remember ever seeing anything that slow.
That is so slow my arms would have gotten tired holding my binoculars up that long. Unreal.

Lolol. I must admit, I'm pretty sure I had a horse win going 7/8ths one time that ran it slower than Dr. Fager won going a mile.

Of course, it was the slow track that caused that, not the slow horse. Yeah STR, that's what it was.

quite a few bottom level mcl routes at penn in dec and guessing some at parx also..not abandoning hope ..in all seriousness would like to see a horse like this win ..see AM's get it done at the level they are capable of being competitive at

Hopefully she runs a decent race and learns a little! I know they were looking at a ** 50,000 but the races were not filling.

Caldera breezed in a heavy fog this morning at Churchill Downs—one day later than originally scheduled as the track was pretty wet and not in the best shape Tuesday.
He worked inside of stablemate American Promise, a $750K son of Justify who was a close second in a two-turn maiden special weight last month in his fourth start. Visibility was very limited due to the fog, and times for most of the day’s works have not yet been posted and may never be, but Caldera did seem to get slightly tired near the wire as compared to his workmate. This wasn’t a big surprise, as the other horse--who is a promising sort in his own right—has significantly more foundation and race fitness than Caldera. Today’s work was likely pretty beneficial for Caldera as far as getting fit to go a route of ground, as well as getting some stiffer competition than he has in past breezes.https://cdnb-media.myracehorse.com/b...2124340762.mp4

Moonlit Courage arrived at Santa Anita Park yesterday afternoon in good order and had her first day on the training track this morning, galloping on the outside of another 2-year-old filly. She handled herself well, but was curious about her new surroundings, which is no surprise.
She may look a tad further behind fitness-wise than we would have expected coming from Julie Stack's, but she has a winter coat and once she gets clipped, she will look better.
She will continue galloping over the training track for the next few days and then should transition to the main track.https://cdnb-media.myracehorse.com/b...2139009144.mp4

looked at it a few times... the only thing I see is the riders hands were above the withers until she was on the turn ... maybe got pinched a little about the 116 mark riders hands drop and he sets down a little........ then re rallies.... all I can see I differ to STR!

I will watch this replay in the morning and report back tomorrow morning for sure.

Looks like he runs hard every time. An awful lot of 2nd's though. Certainly fits the race but not sure I could trust him to win only. The horse that beat him last out is back in there as well.
What caught my eye though was the 9 horse who has won second off a layoff every time he has tried it. And today, yep, second off the layoff. With a few of these sporting more 2nds than wins, 10-1 morning line on Clement's horse has my attention. I did not spend a lot of time on the race but that was what peeked my interest.

Sweet Voyage was officially entered in Saturday’s first race at Del Mar, a maiden special weight that will be contested at five furlongs on the grass. Your daughter of Candy Ride drew post 5 (of 7) with Tiago Pereira returning in the irons. Post time for Race 1 is 12:30 p.m. PT.
When they are ready to run, I do understand not wanting to wait forever on an extra. Got to start somewhere so I totally get wanting to find a spot and get this thing started.

A couple of things Madison.

First off, that jockey is very tall. He is 5'10" which is quite a difference. I assume he is fine but that much height might look a bit out of place when compared to the smaller jocks. That is why it looked like he was standing straight up with a ton of horse. He did have plenty of horse and she was relaxed enough early but I understand it looked a little weird. If you watch the replay again, look at the length of the jockey's legs compared to the rider just outside of him when they go around the 1st turn. From his knee to his torso, he has several more inches of leg height.
As they went around the far turn about the 5/16's pole ( black and white pole before they hit the 1/4 pole ( red and white) at the top of the stretch, the horse kind of pulls herself out of that spot which is a little tighter than it had been. It wasn't the rider doing it, it was the horse. And as that started to happen, the rider in the two path squeezed her even more which made her back out of there. Good riding by that outside jock IMO.
Because your horse backed herself out of that spot, she was not out of gas, just claustrophobic and did have energy left to finish. This is the classic example of covering a speed horses right eye up with the outside mount. Simply put, Fearless Lady did have some fear when her right eye was covered up. She did not like it, and started thinking for herself. Never a good thing IMO.
Keep an eye out for her next start ( No pun intended.) And I would not be surprised if she runs back with blinkers ON. That would be on my mind right about now if she was mine.
Hope that makes sense . That is indeed what happened. Not the jocks fault.

The classic instructions. "Once around easy". All I need was a coffee and I was back at the track and standing at the rail for that gallop. Good stuff Batt.

Appreciate it as always.

Sometimes a little class relief like a maiden race at Penn. Nat. can really help. I had my share of these types and one thing that I learned to do after it had worked before was to take my own rider to Penn. Nat. and make it a bug girl or a jockey that was excited to ride for a bigger outfit and get the opportunity. That excitement does carry over to the horse sometimes and lets face it, at this point, is a rider going to get this horse beat? Probably not. But maybe an enthusiastic bug girl, or boy might be the difference along with that little extra class relief.
You try different things with these lesser ability types and they can work.
Of course, it never hurt me when that lesser named female jockey shipping to Keystone or Penn. Nat. was named. Julie Krone. Man I loved Jules. She squeaked when she talked. Lolol. She is an awesome person! Always so friendly. Everyone here would love her.

yes I know he's had a lot of chances and a case can be made for too many opportunities to take a short price ..think I'll be rooting this race but also something to be said for a horse who's almost always in contention which as you know is common for horses by this sire

see what you're saying about the 9 with 2nd off layoff efforts (i'll include his 2nd career start in that group as did you) .. the cutback to a mile could only help imo ..

i'll always remember his sire breaking his maiden first out over 20 years ago .. it was at aqu ,also at 1 mile (which we know isn't easy) in a huge field..believe he was the favorite also or very well bet..trained by the late bobby frankel and had a great career on the track and as a stallion ..passed away in 2020
will be a sloppy track at aqu and his only 2 off track races were there ..came in 2nd both times

She didn't run a lick and then spiked a Fever shortly there after. 9 months ago she was " off in her left hand ankle" and given time off.... Her first race was a MSW.. so I think they were looking for "class relief".
