Thats a great question. I would say it is going to come down to the Flyers and Bruins out of the east for sure this year. Of course there is always the possibility of another team pulling an upset. However, keeping in mind that it is a 7 game series, I think those are the two powerhouses for sure in the East. They have both improved from last years squads as well. They match up quite well with the Western conference.The only team that can truly test those two in terms of offensive prowess from the West is the Wings. I know what you're thinking..sure they have lost two in a row to the Sharks and yes the Canucks are higher in the standings but they are still the best team in that conference. With the exception of 2006 they are usually ready to go come playoff time.
To answer your question I think the Bruins are certainly one of the top two contenders now. In october a friend and I each picked three teams to win the cup.

Man, that would be insane. Honestly after watching that HBO series and listening to Boudreau address the media I feel they are going to try a "defense first" mentality. It may not be as exciting but hey, I think every capital fan and player would rather have a cup. I still finding watching them play very entertaining because they have the freedom to be as creative in the offensive zone as they want. All these people saying that Ovi choked this year. BULLSHIT...he is showing that a true leader believes in the team effort and he is willing to lead by example. If the Caps make it to the Cup this year no one is going to say shit about him. Everyone has heard the expression "defence wins championships", lets see if the caps are as good on the backend as they are up front. At this point, I highly doubt it.Comment -

resurrection of old threads
hey hockey fans and gambling (non)addicts,
so i took a little hiatus from nhl punting to go travelling and back to law school (living in the uk, not canada anymore). now, three years later i've started making hockey picks again. i think i have connor mcdavid (and my oilers having the slightest bit of optimism) to thank for reigniting my passion in following this league night after night. also possibly the fact that english sports are dull as _____(most of the time) compared with hockey.
so i started a blog on opening night last week. record is 26-15 so far, so im pleased with that. if you would like to see a full record of my picks, you can check it out http://locksports.sportsblog.com/. as a taster i've been betting 0.3 unit size just to get my feet wet. tomorrow, i'll be moving to 1 unit on my picks. i never pick heavy favourites, unless it's to win in regulation (just burn too much cash that way), so my ROI is certainly positive through week 1. all prices given are those on Bet365 (i miss pinnacle).

Looks like Raanta is gonna be in the net, do you think that's the reason for the SJS line to drop so much. I don't know if that line dropping like a good thing or not. Wonder if people are over reacting since Rangers have lost three in a row and Lundqvist is out. I haven't decided yet, but I am actually leaning Rangers. If the line keeps dropping, I think I might just have to take Rangers.Comment -
rangers best game was their opener against the hawks. considering that chicago hasn't exactly been hot out of the gate i can't really give them too much credit. their other two wins came against one of the worst in the nhl, if not the worst. in the first of those two it was a late columbus collapse that was truly to blame. i thought the rangers best team effort, might have been against the habs actually. but then we look at their goal scoring and they are really having some problems scoring against good teams. this is the chief reason im on the sharks tonight. couple that with an excellent price (when i got it). after the first period yesterday the devils were the better team. i didn't think san jose was very good in their last two either, but better than the rangers. it would be a mistake to bet against the rangers simply because raanta is in. he was solid for the blackhawks and could be for the rags too.
overall, dont think the rangers is a bad play..espcially with the price improving. i just like san jose more. all the best gin!Comment
