Either poor/inconsistent offense wins out here in a low scoring battle or bad defense continues and this has a shot to see goals. I'm going to side with the bad defense/goaltending for both continuing. Jose Theodore to start for FLA. Ryan Miller for BUF. Both teams have given up at least three goals in six straight games. Miller has given up three or more in four straight starts. Theodore in four of his last five. Buffalo has at least managed three goals in half their eight games, while Florida has only scored multiple goals in three of seven. They do come in off their best output - six goals last time out against Winnipeg. No secret for FLA. Their two best games this season came with three PP goals in each, so PPs figure large for any chance of this one hitting. Buffalo is right in the middle of the league in PK at 80%. Florida ranks 21st @ 76.5%. Waiting for final word on goalies before booking.

Same as last time for this one. Bad defenses and goal tending > poor offenses. Florida has actually started scoring with ten goals in their last two games, including six against this Winnipeg squad. Winnipeg has three or more goals in six straight. The Jets have allowed 22 goals in their last four, while the Panthers have allowed three or more in seven straight. Clemmensen for FLA. He's allowed eight goals in two starts. Pavelec for WIN. He has allowed 14 goals in his last three starts.

Philly has not been consistent offensively, but Florida has been consistently poor in net and on defense. Jose Theodore between the pipes for FLA. The Flyers blasted him for six goals in route to their season-best output of seven goals about ten days ago. Florida has now given up at least three goals in eight straight. Theodore has given up three goals or more in five of his seven starts and six of those games saw the opposition end with at least three goals by game's end.

2.24.13: ISLANDERS-HURRICANES OVER 5.5 [-125]
Poulin in goal for the Isles & Ward for the Canes. Poulin comes up from the AHL where he had a 3.22 GAA. Maybe he helps solve some of the Isles goal tending issues against Carolina team that struggles for consistency. Still, Carolina is putting up three goals per game on the road where they have only failed to score at least three on two occasions. Ward has been poor all season, giving up at least three goals in eight of eleven starts. That includes one against these Isles that ended up a 6-4 Canes' win. New York has put up some fairly gaudy numbers lately with four goals or more in five of their last seven. The PP has been huge for them when they are going right, all four of their goals in the first meeting with Carolina came on the PP.

We'll see what I can contribute during the week. Going to try this week to mark a game or two each day before I go off to work and see if I can't find goalie confirmations earlier in the day where I might have a minute or two to research things and make a pick. I think I can manage my time well enough to get a pick up when it warrants. May not have much in the way of write-ups though as time won't likely allow me for much of that.

San Jose has had plenty of issues scoring, but Varlamov has had more keeping pucks out of the net for Colorado. He has given up at least three goals in ten of 14 starts this season. On the road, he has given up at least three goals in all six starts. That includes one earlier this season against San Jose. PP was large in that one with the Sharks scoring three PP goals in five PPs.

Waiting for confirmation. If Varlamov starts, I'm definitely on it. All six six of his road starts have seen the opposition score at least three goals. He has also allowed at least three goals in seven of his last nine starts. Colorado is allowing 3.7 goals per road game this season. Columbus hasn't been a juggernaut, but they do average 2.8 goals per home game - up from their 2.19 average on the season. They are coming off two productive games with seven goals combined in those games. At home, Columbus has ten goals in their last two games and has scored three goals in four of their last six at home.Comment -

Weekends are really the only time I am finding to be able to get goalie info and do research, so I guess I am a weekend warrior for the most part for hockey.

Hedberg v. Ellis. Hedberg has been letting in goals routinely since taking over the injured Brodeur. In his last five starts, the opposition has scored at least three goals by game's end in four of five. Carolina had a streak of four straight with three goals or more broken up in their last game. Overall, they have scored at least three in six of their last nine. At home, the average a shade over three goals per game and have let in multiple goals in nine of their last ten. NJ has scored two or more in six of their last eight, so they should add to the tally.

Hedberg again for NJ. His struggles continued as he gave up five goals against Carolina last night. In his last ten starts, Hedberg has given up at least three goals in eight of ten with the opposition scoring three or more in nine of those [one empty netter]. Twice, the Jets have put up three on him already. Winnipeg has scored at least three goals in six of their last nine. That includes two games against the Devils.

Montreal has played eight straight overs and is putting up goals around every turn with four or more in seven of their last eight. NJ remains a worst defensive team without Brodeur. Hedberg has been a bit better of late, but the opposition has been credited with at least two goals in all eleven games since he took over. 6/11 have finished to six goals or better. When they met in January, MTL won 4-3 in OT.

Got a chance to go to a Stars game last Monday when they played Minnesota and their defense continues to look leaky. They have allowed ten goals in their last two and at least three goals in five of their last seven. Their offense has been sufficient enough with 14 goals in their last three games and at least three in five of their last six overall. Lehtonen will start for DAL. He has given up at least three goals in five of his last seven starts. Kings have been solid on this road trip with 12 goals in their last three and OVERs in all three. No word on the starting goal tender for LA yet.Comment -

Kiprusoff v. Dubnyk. Kiprusoff has given up at least three goals in six of his last nine starts. Dubnyk comes in off as shutout, but he's given up at least two goals in nine of his last eleven starts. Calgary comes in off two solid four goal games in a row. Edmonton has ten goals in their last two and at least three goals in three straight. Calgary is giving up an average of 3.6 goals per game on the road.
