Matt's Hockey Corner 2013 Condensed schedule........

Well here we are, 2013 NHL Season has arrived. I have had some previous threads on NBA and NFL, but those were not my stronger Points. My two strongest sports are NHL, then Mlb. My early picks will partially be based on last years plays as the early part of the season may be somewhat hard to predict. I recommend small until play for the first couple weeks, until we see a flow. With that being said, You can expect 2-3 small untit plays from myself to start off.

Flyers/Penguins Under 6 -105

I Going with the Under 6 here based on both Goalies wanting a fresh start. Not sure both will get it, but I can see a 3-1 3-2 type game today. Both Goalies will want to avenge last years horrible performance in the Playoffs. This past week Phillys GM came out saying that to help out Bryzgalov we will be focusing on a more defensive style. I guess thats all good until we see it.

All my picks will be the same Value, Remember small plays for the first couple weeks!

BlackHawks ML -105

Im taking the Hawks here because i firmly believe these guys will be one of the stronger Teams in the West this year. I think the Hawks still have alot to prove. I can see L.A. with a bit of a slow start with them not being fully healthy. Will there be a Cup Hangover? will Quick be that same goalie that had to stand on his head last year? I think Crawford will have a bounce back year in Net for Chicago.

Rangers/Bruins Under 5 +110

This game should be really interesting. Tukka Rask is a solid Goaltender, and Lundqvist is one of the best. I see this being a tight game with a 2-1 finish. NY offense has gotten better with adding Nash but I do believe it will take time to build chemistry. I expect a physical game with a ton of Hits!

I see TB playing well in this spot. There a solid team with an Upgraded defence this year. Not sure if this will b high scoring or not so I sided wth the ML here.

I remember watching these two teams play last year, and I fell asleep by the second period. I believe this will be a tight divisional game. St Louis(Last year anyways) played a very defensive style at home. Hoping for the same thing here. Like I said earlier, this is still a work in progress, but willing to take te chance at +110.

So the Night Has come to a end. Had a fairly good day today. My only loss was the St Louis/Det under 5 Game. I really didnt expect Detroit to not show up on game one of the new season. Pathetic. Something like 31-12 shots on net St louis. Anyways thats enough of that. I had 6 picks today. I guess i was a little excited. From now on 1-3 plays per day.

Flyers TT Over 2.5 -123

Solid chance for the flyers to rebound here. I expected them to lose yesterday to the Penguins. This is a back to back but,theres barely any travel and its very arly in the Season. I would have backed the ML here but, Im not sure how Bryzgalov is going to play this year.

Oilers ML +120

One play here. Had a bad beat this morning. I guess i didnt take into effect the fatigue factor early on. I think the Oilers will win this one. Canucks looked terrible yesterday. Back to back situation. I watched the flyers drag there legs all of the third period. I think the same will happen with the Canucks. The Canucks are notorious slow starters, and I see the Oilers sneaking one out here.

Redwings vs Bluejackets Total Under 5.5 -122

I think this game goes Under. My intial thoughts were Detroit should come out flying right away, but I also think the Blue Jackets will be ready to play. The Blue Jackets got rid of there distraction in Nash and they seemed focused on more of a defensive style. Detroit will play much better and tighten up but, im not sure the scoring will be there right away either. I cant seem to pick a winner here. My gut Says Columbus wins but i will take the under here.

Maple Leafs/Sabres Total Over 5.5 +105

I think this will be a back and forth hard hitting game. Both these teams hate each other and the intensity should be there. Buffalo is a much better team than Montreal, so I expect some goals. Scrivens didnt look good to me in Montreal. Yes he only let up one goal but Montreal just didnt play a good offensive game at all. Scrivens looked shaky. Buffalo is on a back to back game. I expect a couple of mental errors plus a somewhat tired 3rd Period. Toronto can score, I expect 3-5 Goals from them tonight.

Jets vs Capitals Over 5.5 Goals -113 Jets are on a back to back. I noticed last year Jets let up alot of Goals on the Road. Byfuglien looks out of shape to me, Jets coul get burned. Capitals are very capable of scoring a fair amount of goals here.

Panthers @ Canadiens Under 5.5 -133

Both games went under the Total in Montreal last year. Price was fairly sharp in Game 1 and look for Florida to rebound on what was a bad defensive game last night vs Ottawa. Florida was 8-5 on the Unders in back to back situations last year.

Flyers @ Devils Flyers over 2.5 Goals -120

I look for the Flyers to rebound here. Philly will want to atone for last years but kicking in the playoffs. Once again im not sure if I can back phillys ML here tho. Wouldnt suprise me to see a 4-3 type game.

Lightning @ Hurricanes Over 5.5 Goals -123

The Lightning may be a bit tired here. 3rd game in 4 nights. The Hurricanes will look to rebound after a bad loss. The Lightning are 6-1 for the Over in there last 7 second games of a back to back situation.

Stars @ Wings Under Under 5.5 Goals -113

I think this could be a 3-2 type finish. Detroit should be a little tired, but Dallas Historically hasnt played or scored well against Detroit over the Past couple seasons. The Under was 4-0 following a Detroit win returning for a home game the following game.

I think this has a decent chance of hitting especially if this game is wide open. This is the Penguins Home opener, I expect some jitters and mistakes. Here hoping Toronto can Capitalize.

- Leafs +1.5 -129

Im giving this a shot. This should be a back and Forth Game. Most people may think Pittsburg will destroy Toronto, but I can see the Leafs trying hard for this game. Maybe a respectable 4-3 Final would be fine with me. All of there 4 match ups last year were decided by 1 goal.

-NY Rangers ML -123

I think the Rangers will come out and play a tighter game than they did in Boston. The Rangers need to get it going, I see this game being somewhere around 4-2 4-1 for the Rangers. Maybe tighter of a game im not sure, but I like NY to get a W tonight.

-Bruins Under 2.5 Goals -117

Giving this a shot. Hopefully NY defence tightens up for this game. Lundquist will be up for the Challenge. Divisional game they will play Desperate to win this.

Iike this play, while Columbus Has improved im not sure there offene will be enough to beat the Coyotes tonight. Coyotes lost to Chicago who is on fire, and to a solid Stars team on the Road. I expect them to get it done tonight.

-Ilanders@Leafs Ilanders ML-105

The Islanders are starting to head in the right direction, and so are the Leafs. The Leafs returning home after a BIG Road win in a back to back situation are 0-5. Also the Leafs have lost Lupul for tonight. I believe this will be a bit of a let down spot for the leafs. NYI needs this game as they are heading into a back to back tomorrow with Boston. This is a Must for NYI.

Rangers@Flyers Rangers Over 2.5 Goals -120

I know the Rangers are on a back to back but I see them getting up for this game. Rangers would like nothing better than to tak it to the Flyers. The Flyers and the Rangers have been having problems defensively. Im giving the Over 2.5 Goals a shot becuase Flyers defense/Goaltending has been ugly. I was thinking about Rangers ML but a little nervous withRangers defense right now.

Senators@Panthers Panthers Over 2.5 Goals -113

The Panthers should show up with a much better effort here. There last 2 efforts were disgusting. There first game at home they played well. Ottawas defense is suspect, with OK Goaltending. Nobody has exposed it yet but I can see florida getting 3 here.

Sabres@Hurricanes Hurricanes over 2.5 Goals -131

Sooner or later the Hurricanes will explode. Hopefully this is tonight. Buffalo played a sub par game against the leafs the other night. They were lucky to win as Buffalo gave up 30+ shots on goal. I think Carolina Gets it going tonight finally.

Sabres@Hurricanes Hurricanes ML -123

The only reason why i took Hurricanes ML as well is that The Sbres Goalie Ryan Miller has been good in the early going. I think Ward will have a bounce back game, so im trying Hurricanes ML as well.

Predators@Blues Total Goals Under 5+100

This play sorta stuck out to me. Nashville will be out to redeem themselves after losing there meeting at home against the blues. The Blues are hard to score on at home. Both teams are very defensive. I expect this to be a bit of a low scoring game tonight as i did not expect 7 goals between the two teams last time out.

I thought id give this a shot. Both teams playing a seond game of a back to back vs each other. Hurricanes won game. Im thinking mostly everyone will pound Buffalo here. That would be the easy play. Im trying to think outside this play a bit. Buffalo hasnt been playing great at all, there goalie has kept them in it. They were badly outplayed vs the Leafs, The hurtin flyers scored 2 goals and easily could have had more. Looks like Carolina is startin to play together. obviously new addidtions take time to gel. Im gonna give Carolina a shot here.

Captials@Devils Devils ML -135

I like the Devils tonight. Washington is on a back to back, and they wre stomped last night. I figured after they were beat bad at home vs the Jets, they would come out and play against the Canadiens. They somewhat came out to play but there goal tending is a huge issue. Maybe they press for Luongo? I think Wash will try here but come up short. With Brodeur playing great and Washington having Goalie issues, I cant possibly back Wash here.

Senators@Lightining Lightning Over 3 Goals -113

Giving this a shot. TB can score Goals and Senators are on a back to back. Ottawa has been great to start, but they also really havnt been tested. 2 games against Florida? I think TB is better than Florida this year, and I see them putting forth a solid effort vs Sens. Anybody that wants to put a shot on Ottawa ML here, may not be a terrible choice but I expect TB atleast to put some goals up.

Islanders@Bruins Bruins Over 3 Goals -113

These teams met last year 4 times. Bruins won 3 of them. In those 3 wins the Bruins averaged over 5 goals. The 1 game the bruins lost was 3-2 and it wasbecause Nabokov stood on his head making 34 saves. Physically this may be a hard gam for NYI. NYI is coming off a back to Back. Matchup wise the Bruins are just Physically bigger, and they will be looking to avenger there OT loss vs NYR the other night.

Penguins@Jets Penguins 1st Period ML -126

Thi is a tough game to pick the winner IMO. The jets can play well against anybody, but ive also seen them fold the Tents up early on as well. In the past of course. I Expect the Jets to be a little tight early. All thfan will be excited abou Crosbys first tim to winnipeg. Pittsburg played a sub par game the other night vs the Leafs. I expect Bylsma to remind the Penguins that winipeg is no push over. Even if this is a tie, we get our money back.
