14 is too many for me to be comfortable with in the 1st game.. S.C. will hold back and play more conservative i believe.. That way, the next week, Ga. will be guessing a little.. I think we'll see more of QB C. Shaw than we should.. Also, Gilmore will not line up in the "WildCock" formation on Thursday.. But i look for Spurrier to go to that a lot more this season.. Starting in week 2.. Just my opinion, but thats how i see this game playing out.. I'm not saying S.C. will not cover, but there are better games for week 1.. Only a small play for me, and only because i'm a homer..

Way to many points to lay , take the points or pass.

They will show nothing with Ga up next.

Spurrier said all the players involved with the hotel incident are going to play unless the NCAA makes a ruling. This doesn't include Saunders though, who is still suspended.

Steve Spurrier won't hold back any players in South Carolina's opener if the NCAA does not inform the school about possible suspensions prior related to players staying at a local hotel for a reduced rate .

under, not sure why this line opened at 48 seems ridiculous in week 1.

There is some speculation that Hurricane Earl will bring some nasty weather to the area on game day. If you are inclined to go with the under, it might be worth taking it now.

this a great point. the key are winds, not the rain so if it scrapes the carolinas it could be good.

I don't see the hurricane being a factor in this game.. But weather can do anything over a 48 hour period..

I've changed my mind from earlier in the week - I like the under here. 9 starters back on SMiss defense, possible fringe rough weather due to hurricane... i like under.

The Hurricane is not coming anywhere near Columbia SC. There will be no fringe effects, nothing. The game-time conditions will be about 90 degrees, 60% humidity, absolutely no chance of rain, and almost no wind.

And Southern Miss is my underdog play of the year (which will last the ENTIRE football year college and pro). To win the game. I'm only playing the money line. Southern Miss and Georgia are both going to obliterate SC. Watch what I tell you.

This is without the possible NCAA ruling that would eliminate about a quarter of SC's starters before the game Thursday. I am making the prediction based on a full strength SC team minus Saunders.

However there is a decent chance a large chunk of their starters will be taken away tomorrow or Thursday.

Southern Mississippi will have a passing attack that will be probably the first or 2nd best the Gamecocks will see all year. They are completely loaded, and have a 6-6 WR that is the 2nd best in college football. They get their great QB back that they lost midseason last year. Backing him up is a QB that would start at South Carolina.

They get 8 starters back on defense, and they are use to playing against the nations top offenses in Houston and Kansas last year. They barely lost both of those games.

What I'm telling you is that southern miss is better at WR, QB, equally good at tailback, and are probably just a hair worse than SC on defense. Just a little bit. But there is a huge gap between the Gamecock offense and the southern miss offense. southern miss could put close to 50 points on the board thursday night and there is no way SC can score like that. Simply put its a mismatch that the books really missed.

Oh and Southern Miss has a top 5 punt returner who is also a top 5 KR. He is a backup WR. They are totally loaded. Southern Miss was 18th in scoring last year and that was going half the year without their bad ass QB. He's back. They will be a top 10 scoring team in the nation this year.

I'd suggest looking in the area where the Midlands start to slope up toward the Upcountry, i.e. Trenton, Saluda, and Batesburg-Leesville, or the rural areas around those towns. The countryside is rolling and agricultural, yet the drive to Columbia, Augusta, and Charlotte (all medium-sized cities) is under two hours, and the drive to Atlanta is well under four hours. Cost of living and housing has risen some in recent years, but still beats the Northeast, I think.

Columbia SC is a great college town. It is also a drug war zone, the whole state is one of the top 5 most violent in the nation in terms of murder, assaults, etc. More drugs pass on through I20 from Texas, to Atl, to Augusta, and out to Columbia everyday than probably any other interstate highway in the nation.

While i'll agree SM has a decent QB & an outstanding receiver in DeAndre Brown, i still can't see them beating S'Carolina Thursday.. S'Car has a great backfield and i believe Gilmore will be a great match up against Brown.. Add Culliver & Aguste, they'll keep the SM receivers in check.. Also, Wilson & Matthews should be able to put enough pressure on the QB to disrupt his game a little.. In my opinion, the only thing SM has that will be better than S'Car is their O-Line.. This is gonna be another year the Gamecocks struggle with their line.. But, thats it.. QB's match up pretty evenly to me.. It'll just come down to who has a better night on Thursday.. (with a better o-line, it would be Carolina, but) I think S'Car whas better RB's, WR's, Defensive line & backs, and with Spurrier & Ellis, better coaches.. 14 is too many for me to lay 1st game, but i see S'Car winning.. A Thursday night home opener, S'Car will be pumped for this game..

Except their so-called "badass" QB lost almost his entire offensive line, which last time I checked is pretty crucial in football, especially going up against an SEC defense

I expect southern miss to score 2 or 3 touchdowns early going to Brown constantly before SC and the offensive minded Spurrier even know whats going on on the other side of the ball. It will be too late then. Blitzing will make it worse.
