#424Yeah, odd scheduling lately... We had a card every Saturday for a while, then they took 10 days off and had a card on Wednesday, now another 10 days before having a card on Sunday, then not even a full week off before having a card the following Saturday, then NO card for a month!Comment -

#435I think kids hear that math is hard and believe it, much like people learn that brussels sprouts are gross and believe it, when they're delicious.Comment -

#439That's not true. I've got a ridiculously high IQ, yet never took an interest in Math. I would learn whatever I needed to for school for that week, but I would forget it all pretty quickly. Right now I can't even remember simple geometry and algebra.
Myself aside, many smart people are poor at Math. (i.e. Albert Einstein)

#440Albert Einstein was not poor at math. That is a silly urban legend that has been debunked several times before.
People also like to mention that he failed his college entrance exams on his first try. Which is true, but he was sixteen, and didn't study at all for it.Comment -

#441I find it hard to believe that anyone with a 'ridiculously high IQ' would struggle with anything less than linear algebra.
Was your IQ test proctored, or did you take one of those silly online ones? I don't know anyone who scores under 125 on them.Comment -

#442I'm sure if you put your efforts into learning geometry and simple algebra, you could figure it out. Some people don't have mathematical minds, and fair better in the arts and humanities. However, I think any person with above average intelligence can develop a decent understanding of basic math.
I'm currently taking a Calculus course in college. Man do I miss algebra and geometry.Last edited by Vitooch; 02-22-12, 02:27 PM.Comment -

#454You may have very high Iq without being good at math, is it likely? Nah, not really.
Usually individuals with high IQ are good at math. Science illustrated suggested that Einstein had an Iq somewhere between 230-250. If he was poor in math, he wouldn't be interested in maths and astrophysics. Its very unlikely that individuals spend 10 hours a day exercising something you really hate and do not handle very well.Comment -

#455So you do have the capacity to learn basic math and perhaps even harder math, you just don't feel it necessary to continue, which is understandable. I'm still curious as to the usefulness of knowing the derivative of arctangent.Comment
