#877The commentary here is pretty silly right now.
Chris Weidman didn't knock AS out because he's some GOAT amazing striker. He knocked Silva out because Silva did what Silva ALWAYS does when he doesn't respect his opponents abilities.
To argue that Silva threw the fight, or that Weidman is a great striker shows a complete lack of understanding of variance in MMA. Silva avoids those shots some large percentage of the time, just as he always has, in this universe he got caught. Prior to that moment, Weidman was frustrated, and Silva was on his way to opening up his offense.
The live line coming into the second round was AS -300, after he had LOST round 1, that is the way the momentum was shifting.
Was Silva's plan stupid? Yes! And it was stupid when he did it against Maia, and Bonnar, and everyone else. He could've easily got caught there as well.
If there is a rematch, I would bet Silva at -210 now, when I WOULDN'T have bet him at that price tonight.Comment -

#882Ando always does that shit to get guys to engage and take them out of their game. It usually works. It started to work on Chris, who was mesmerised for a bit before he snapped back to it and put Silva down. Him doing that weird backfist after the right straight threw off Silva's head movement timing and he rolled right into that left hook. Great setup from Weidman.Comment -

#884Honest opinions...does this make me a sick gambler:
I had weidman itd and by Ko. The weidman win has me up over 3k.
Earlier in the night I doubled my Kennedy bet after reading the breakdowns by md and and the crew and profited 600, placing another 100 on weidman by Ko after that win. It was the best night of my gambling life.
Then immediately after I felt angry I didn't put more down on the ko than I did. Is this normal for any of you or am I just greedy lol.Comment -

#887Thanks, though probably not true in hindsight but I figured that a robbery or favoritism to Silva was likely and looked at it like he had to finish Silva to win. I also felt that Silva had enough grappling to at least fend off subs..so I happened to make the right pick.
This is coming from the guy who came in here to specifically ask if he should hedge if having a long parlay ending with weidman lolComment -

"Clown Silva" gets fighters to fight his fight. When Silva goes into "clown mode" he usually demoralizes his opponent - with his head and fists. He didn't go into that mode until Weidman got Andy in his world on the ground. It was a calculated decision by Silva. It was something that's worked 100% of the time in all prior UFC fights - and to an extent it did as Weidman stood and traded for a while. Silva didn't like being on his back, saw how easily Weidman could do it and changed his gameplan accordingly. Just b/c he looked to be showboating doesn't mean he wasn't taking anything lightly- if he didn't do that Weidman would've shot for TD a bunch more times. Let's not act like GOAT can't control his emotions in the cage. Silva's tactics got the desired effect, which was Weidman swinging. It's one Silva, he's not some bipolar fighter
Although Fedor's the GOAT.Comment -

Fedor is the GOAT and I don't care if the game passed him by. He was humble, respected the game, respected his opponents, and respected himself. He came out there every fight to stop the guy and most of them were 30-50 lbs bigger than him in his prime. Don't give me the UFC shit either....Sylvia, Arlovski, and Randy Couture were the best they had at the time.
As for Silva.....he's getting old...obv not fully motivated....who says they'd lose a superfight (vs Jones) a day or 2 before a title fight? Don't underestimate Weidman either....didnt see the Munoz fight but he's a tough tough guy but Weidman completely DESTROYED him.Comment -

#894Nice hit bro. Ended up dropping another $150 on Weidman. $400 to win $800 in total. Rest of night was wash. Lost Gracie, Boetsch, Herman. Won Edgar, Cub, and Pierce/barboza/parke parlay. Hoping Weidman comes in + on rematch. More easy cash.Comment -

#899Not sure if this was intentional, but that backhand off the right messed with Silva's headmovement. He mistook it for a straight left and moves into Weidman's left thinking he has no punch there anymore, but gets caught blindsided. I'm inclined to believe it was a luck combo.

Silva was definitely trying to get Weidman more aggressive, I don't think this is a case of Silva not trying like many people are saying either. However, I'm not so sure about that backhand. If Chris actually threw that backhand off the right to trick Anderson into moving to his left, he is a hell of a better striker than I thought.Comment -

#906I agree with you to a degree. I think that Weidman is a very, very good striker though, but I thought that before the fight, so it doesn't have much to do with what you're implying. That said, I think the image you're portraying of the fight is not accurate. Anderson was throwing a lot of shots at Weidman, and Weidman was using his stellar head movement to dodge the majority of them. No reason to think that Anderson was about to knock him out. Weidman was doing very well, even before the KO, he was hitting Anderson frequently and dodging a lot of Anderson's shots. The fact that Anderson had his hands down and was taunting Weidman doesn't indicate that he was winning.Comment -
