Donald Trump Bans CBDC Development in the U.S.
In addition to the CBDC ban, the executive orders outline a comprehensive strategy for fostering cryptocurrency adoption and innovation in the U.S.:
    1. Fair Crypto Regulations: The orders mandate the creation of clear and balanced regulatory frameworks to support the growth of the digital asset industry while protecting investors and ensuring market stability.
    2. Promoting Bitcoin: Trump has directed agencies to promote Bitcoin as a foundational element of the nation’s digital economy, signaling a strong endorsement of the world’s largest cryptocurrency.
    3. National Digital Asset Stockpile: Another key aspect of the orders is the establishment of a strategic digital asset reserve. This initiative aims to secure the U.S. position in the global financial system by stockpiling critical digital assets and leveraging blockchain technology for economic strength.

I agree the term was over the top for the charges used. And I don't think he went into it with bad criminal intentions to deserve the book being thrown at him.

But sheesh. Saying you are pardoning someone because their mother campaigned for your election just doesn't seem right if I believe no one is above the law and political favors are bad.
I felt the same thing as you with the hitman. But then I read that 3 different people posted under the handle Dread Pirate Roberts at one time or another. I don't know what's true but if I were to guess, Ulbricht didn't order the hit. I read DM communication so he either did go bonkers or someone else did it. They talked about just roughing the guy up or killing him in the DM. At the end, he said just kill him.

I found this article from Wired where the email back-and-forths between Ulbricht and a Hell's Angle setting up the hits very interesting.

On the surface, it doesn't compute. I always thoght of Ulbricht as having a libertarian/non-violent/Mises economy type of ideology. In short, he was a hippie making money. Can't say whether these emails are truthful or manufactured but they were allowed to be read in court. I've learned some agencies are not above building an elaborate framework on someone if they choose to go into full entrapment mode. If you want to smear someone, painting them as a murderer will do just fine.

However, one paragraph from the article reports this:

"Ulbricht, who the prosecutors have sought to prove is that Dread Pirate Roberts, hasn't been charged with murder-for-hire in his Southern District of New York case, though he faces charges that include conspiracies to sell narcotics, launder money and more. (He does, however, face murder-for-hire charges in a separate case in Baltimore.) In fact, the prosecution admitted in court that the purported victims of the Silk Road killings were never found, and that Canadian police couldn't even locate records for anyone with their names. (Ulbricht's defense attorneys declined WIRED's request for comment on the message log, saying they'll respond on the trial's closing arguments.)".

I would like to see how this was addressed in the closing arguments. But who knows? Pretty cold-blooded if true.

As for Trump, he probably could've said what he said a little better...

Very nice, Arky. And you're right.

Trump made a campaign promise. Very easy to take the votes and then say "I'm too busy" once he gets into office.

I saw that picture of all the presidential orders on his desk. He has seemingly been quite productive in the first few days of his term.

    From Wednesday's CryptoCompare newsletter:

Trump Pardons Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht

President-elect Donald Trump has kept one of his key campaign promises and granted a full pardon to Ross Ulbircht, the founder of the now-defunct Silk Road darknet marketplace, who has spent more than a decade in prison.

Ross was arrested in 2013 and sentenced in 2015 for creating the darknet marketplace, which allowed its users to buy and sell illicit goods using bitcoin. His charges included money laundering and drug trafficking.

Trump said in a Truth Social post that he called the mother of Ross Ulbricht to “let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross.”

The President called his sentence of 40 years plus two life sentences “ridiculous.” Ulbircht was defended among the cryptocurrency and libertarian communities, who argued that he did not sell drugs or any other illegal items, but instead operated the darknet marketplace allowing for these transactions.

The Silk Road was launched when the price of bitcoin was at just $0.50 and is seen as one of the catalysts for the cryptocurrency’s wider adoption as it was one of the first marketplaces to accept it as a payment method back in 2011.

    -----------------------------------------------

It would be nice if he could recover some or all of his Bitcoin that was seized. He'd be a billionaire several times over. Having just 100 Bitcoin in a hidden wallet would surely pay the bills for a while...

But gotta hand it to Trump - he kept his promise.

Hmmm. Doesn't appear to have had a massive impact as yet. Think I'll grab some just in case markets wake up to this today and go a bit crazy.

protecting the sovereignity of the U.S. dollar by supporting the growth of dollar-backed stablecoins worldwide, and protecting citizens from the dangers of a central bank digital currency (CBDC).
DId not realize he was against a central bank crypto. That sounds very good and a smart way to fight back against BRICS attempts to change the USD standing.

Nice article, Raiders. A few basic considerations re: the Bitcoin price action:
    1) I expect the BTC price to trend up. Especially in the Bull market portion of the 4-year cycle.
    2) Doesn't go up in a straight-line. It's still a volatile asset.

It sounds insane (to us) that China could make such a poor decision to sell off about 1% of the total supply. But this goes back to another point. Bitcoin is not yet a mature asset. It's arguably not yet at the inflection point of the adoption curve. There are players who are not yet sold on the long-term value of Bitcoin.

China May Have Sold Entire 194K Bitcoin Stash, Says CryptoQuant CEO
New evidence suggests that China may have sold the full 194,000 Bitcoin (BTC) it seized from the Plustoken Ponzi scheme back in 2019.According to on-chain data, the movement of these Bitcoin funds points to a transaction carried out in 2019 despite China never officially confirming the sale.
CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju has analyzed the fund movements and believes the Chinese government used crypto mixers and centralized exchanges, such as Huobi, to offload the stolen stash.

President Trump Signs Executive Order To Spark U.S. Crypto Markets
Today, President Donald Trump signed a new executive order titled “Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology” that supports the growth of the digital asset industry in the U.S. As the crypto industry became one of the largest donors to his Presidential campaign after feeling beleaguered and attacked by regulations under the Biden Administration, today’s executive order is proof Trump is following through on a statement made during the campaign to make America the “crypto capital of the planet.”

Key policy actions included protecting and promoting citizens’ ability to use digital assets and develop the underlying blockchain technology without persecution, protecting the sovereignity of the U.S. dollar by supporting the growth of dollar-backed stablecoins worldwide, and protecting citizens from the dangers of a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

The executive order pushed back on what the industry saw as an attack on their ability to conduct business in the U.S. by the prior Administration as a result of “Operation Chokepoint 2.0” (OCP 2.0). This concept was largely brought to light by crypto entrepreneur Nic Carter, Founding Partner at Castle Island Ventures, who maintained there was a deliberate attempt by U.S. regulators to “debank” individuals and entities working in cryptocurrency and to prevent banks from offering crypto services.

Trump also called for the establishment of the “President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets” to evaluate regulations in U.S. agencies that impact the digital asset industry. Previously named as the White House A.I. and crypto czar, David Sacks has been designated to chair the working group, which is embedded within the National Economic Council. This working group will aim to establish clear and transparent regulations for digital assets, with a particular focus on the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Justice, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The working group would also study the potential creation and maintenance of a 'national digital asset stockpile'. This concept would be to potentially create such a stockpile from cryptocurrencies lawfully seized by the U.S. Government through law enforcement efforts. Prior to this, there was the much-discussed possibility of an executive order creating a ‘Strategic Bitcoin Reserve’ similar to what Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) has proposed in her BITCOIN Act. However, reports that Trump may want to consider a mix of cryptocurrencies “made in the U.S.” might have resulted in a decision to delegate this effort to the working group.

While not seeing this as an exeuctive order on “Day One” of the Administration, being prioritized to having Trump sign this in his first week in office sends out a strong signal that elevates crypto policy to national importance and creates a pathway for digital assets to flourish and grow in the U.S.

    Good morning, Opti. No doubt!

I was looking at the Power-curve charts. If you zoom out, there does appear to be historical resistance on the top and bottom of the bands.

Holy shit, what a move. I saw 107,800 and thought we were heading to an ATM. I see that we already got there!

Trump inauguration day! What a country, what a life.
