10K from 3K is probably setting your sights a little high. If you want to do that you will probably need to increase your unit size, but that's a risky maneuver because one bad weekend could sink you. And bad weeks and weekends will happen.
I go by the standard wager rules, i.e., when betting favorites the amount listed is the amount to win and when betting underdogs the amount listed is the amount risked.
For example, Blue Jays -120; 2.5X = 3.0X to win 2.5X
Angels +110; 1.0X = 1.0X to win 1.1X

Pluthero - You're killing it!
I've been following a while and many times I've bet the same way as you with success.
A sincere "Thank you"!
You're predictions are far more accurate than mine and I'm curious to understand what it is, that you see in your capping, that helps you the most with your success?
Is it pitching, parks, last 10 days, trends ... ? Or is it feel/instinct?
Your record speaks for itself and it would be great if I could emulate your capping skills!
Could you please explain it?
Thank you in advance ...
John, I think 25% is fine for recalculating your unit sizes. However, if you wanted to be super-conservative (and we're gambling here so ti would be hard to make a case that it's conservative at all) you could use something like 10% if your bankroll drops and 25% if your BR increases.
Thanks guys for the kind words!
Oh and I forgot to mention, I don't do football or basketball. At least not successfully enough to post my picks. If I spent the amount of time capping the others that I do baseball it would cause more friction at home than that money's worth.

okbyme123, I can't give away my exact methods, but I can tell you after years of capping with moderate to nil success that I don't have the feel/instinct to cap that way. I like to quickly scan the day's games then compare my initial reactions with what I decided after delving into the numbers. I suprise myself daily with some of my picks.
Yogi said that baseball was half-pitching, half-hitting, and half-defense. The truth is that finding the balance between those three aspects and comparing those to the strength of each team is key. Also, I'm not afraid to play large favorites. When you see a line of -200/+170 it seems a little outrageous but a lot of those lines make sense to me. For a dog to make money at +170 they have to win 37% of the time, which is Houston's current winning percentage. This shows me that there are plenty of matchups that should have larger favorites, but Vegas probably makes more money by dropping the line to keep the sides relatively even.
Or I could just be talking out of my ass (I hope not).

Well, over the past 4 days I'm 3-7 and down nearly 17 units. The 3-7 bothers me a little, but unit size is what really hurts. Tread with caution friends.

That's more like it. Yesterday: 4-1; +5.8X TTD: 123-74; +91.68X I can't believe that Nationals game didn't hit. The only part of that game I watched was the top of the eighth and ninth and neither Burnett nor Clippard had anything going. Maybe it was because the mound was in bad shape, but Atlanta didn't have the same problem. Anyway, hopefully I'm back on track.
