Oh for the record.. I was looking up Major League Pitching debut statistics.. Particularly of elite pitchers just for shits n giggles.. Since 2002..

Lackey: lost
Peavy: lost
Cliff Lee: lost
Haren: lost
Greinke: ND
Volquez: lost
Cain: lost
Felix H: lost

Obviously pitchers have made great debuts too.. I don't know.. The point is, he can definitely lose and its definitely worth the price to take a stab at the Pirates.

Nice observations Joe-don't know how the hell you got two points from me but give one to your LA friend in the pic. I like the theory Ice, definitely value in PITT my only thought is that it's not hockey where you can catch the kid with his head down...what if he is really that freaking good-which he seems to be? I think one thing to keep in mind is that Strasburg won't have that full element of surprise that most rookies get to enjoy. He's had 5 or 6 games on TV this spring, so I'm sure the Pirates hitters will have had a good look at him. Of course watching on TV is not the same as seeing the ball flying at you while at the plate, but I do think it gives them a little bit of an advantage that most teams don't have going against virgin pitchers. They will know his tendencies, angles, etc.

The formula looks like this to me:

Virgin pitcher who has been seen several times + Nats pathetic defense + rumored pitch count + Nats struggling pen (save 2 guys) + Pirates recent history vs Washington + RIDICULOUS line = no chance in heck I'm putting a penny on the Nationals.

A couple of Nationals have hit Karstens well in limited ABs. That plus the fact that the Pirates stink are the only pluses for Washington. Even Karstens has done quite well in the 2 games he has started (4 runs in 12+ innings).

I am definitely rooting for Strasburg and the Nationals, but I can't see why someone would lay that much money on Washington. I hope all of you on Washington cash bigtime, but I think it is risky business to take either side in this game.

Hey guys, lets not forget that no matter how well Strassburg is doing, I don't think they are going to pitch him over 5 innings. He hasn't really been going over 6 innings in the minors and these are going to be much more high stress pitches. So that still leaves 4 innings for the Nats relievers to close out. I personally like the play or at least like the Pirates +1/2

You are completely right and completely wrong my friend, Nationals are a DUMBASS play not a square play. How can anyone put -200 on an unproven pitcher? I don't even care if they were playing Houston. I have a small play on Pitt just for shit a giggle myself.
