#634Hi TA
I'm intrigued by your comment on Matchbook. There's no doubt that lines can be arbed between books to exploit inefficient or deliberately mispriced lines. But can you provide a specific example of how this might be used against an average bettor like me or someone else in the thread? I'm an active matchbook user and would welcome the opportunity to learn.
thanks.
Let me get some dinner in me and I'll come back to this, if I forget, remind me but didn't want you thinking your question was being ignored.Comment -

Good evening chrislau86,
Thank you for answering that for me while I wasn't around. I have no problems if/when people do that as "I'm a little busy, right now." - understatement of the month. As always, looking forward to your future scribings.Comment -

At your convenience I'd welcome the opportunity to understand some more about the arbing issues you perceive with matchbook.
I'm happy for your success. I have always enjoyed watching people who are good at what they do, in your case in your hockey thread and now in this baseball thread. Best luck.Comment -

The issue I have with Matchbox is at times the 'best line' has to low of a limit, where as a regular sports book won't - yes you may get your limits cut but at least you know in advance you can only make "x" number of dollars from that book. For example, Team ABC is the one I've selected to play for today, for whatever reason things have caused my day to run behind, I log into Matchbook, to see them -122 where every where else it's -125, thinking I've got this covered I close out the other accounts (in terms of logging out), and place the wager only to find out the person is only taking $300 on the game when I wanted more. Don't get me wrong, it was my fault for not first checking things out better but the game was nearing, less than 5 minutes away, and I rushed - so now I make it a point to use them for laying off for a local. Win or lose, I still get my cut for doing this for them before you ask why doesn't he set up on his own, you should already know the answer. One of the other problems is people wait to long to put out fair market value/always hustling and the lines in the past jump all over the place prior to games starting. Overall, I like book but use it the way mentioned above. Thanks for bringing this back to the front, as I kept thinking, "What did I forget?".Comment -

matchbook positives:
1) limited but visible market depth similar to that of a stock or futures market
2) potential for 1 cent bid/ask spread
3) proxies using matchbook to lay off action for other books
matchbook negatives
1) uneven or nonexistent market making from league to league and game to game
2) potential for wild swings in bid/ask spread, best price, and liquidity
3) proxies using matchbook to lay off action for other books
9) very weak user interface
In general I believe that the positives way way way outweigh the negatives. And as far as point 3) goes, in my opinion anything which improves liquidity is wildly positive. There's nothing more horrifying than a lack of a bid or ask to hit. Look no farther than physical commodities markets where prices on a given contract have gone limit down or limit up for the day.
Keep on keepin' on TA. Great work.Comment -
