The Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche meet in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series Tuesday after an unforgettable 13-goal Game 1 thriller, as we offer our expert Avalanche vs. Jets player props based on the best NHL odds

The Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets put on a display in Game 1 of this series reminiscent of the Harlem Globetrotters, with little emphasis on defense and more errors than an untrained computer programmer. While Game 1 might have been a joy to watch for neutral observers and Over bettors, coaches Jared Bednar and Rick Bowness likely had clenched fists throughout.

They meet again Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where both teams should prioritize a more disciplined style of play. That's particularly true for the Jets, who aim to showcase their status as the NHL's top defensive team on home ice during the regular season.

In addition to our Capitals vs. Rangers player props, here are our best Avalanche vs. Jets player props and NHL picks for Tuesday (odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Avalanche vs. Jets prop bet predictions for Tuesday

Nathan MacKinnon Over 4.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nathan MacKinnon finished Game 1 with four shots on goal, the fourth time in a row he hasn't mustered at least five. He should have an itchy trigger finger on Tuesday in Winnipeg, so expect him to fire on sight.

MacKinnon has averaged 4.71 shots per game in 78 career postseason outings and hit the Over in six of seven games prior to his current slide. A winning $10 bet at Betway will yield a $7.46 profit with an implied probability of 57.26%.

Best odds: -134 via Betway

Under 6.5 goals ⭐⭐⭐

An avalanche of goals can't possibly strike twice in the same place in two days, can it? Playoff hockey is all about making adjustments, so Bednar and Bowness should have their plates more full than an all-you-can-eat buffet in the lead-up to Game 2. The Jets had the NHL's second-best defense overall and best on home ice during the regular season, which, based on how Game 1 transpired, might come as a shock.

More rookie and needless mistakes occurred in Game 1 than a baby attempting to eat solids for the first time. That propensity for a gaff was compounded by Alexandar Georgiev's woeful play in the Colorado net. The embattled Avs' goaltender probably would have struggled to save a fully inflated exercise ball. That said, the Jets will be much better defensively in Game 2, while the Avs will either change their starting netminder or ensure they protect Georgiev.

Avalanche ML vs. Jets ⭐⭐⭐⭐

While our Western Conference matchups and predictions have the Jets advancing to the second round, it's hard to conceive of this Avalanche team capitulating. Expect a warrior-like performance from the Avs in Game 2, who will feel hard done by after a few uncharacteristic mistakes and forlorn goaltending cost them a chance to take Game 1.

There were signs of an Avs' pushback, cutting the three-goal deficit to one late in the third period. Colorado also started the game well and would have been up by a couple had it not been for Connor Hellebuyck's early heroics. Look for the Avalanche to even the series in a much tighter-checking Game 2. Betway offers -110 odds for an Avalanche victory, implying a 52.38% probability. A winning $10 wager will yield a $9.09 profit.
