#125Thanks brandoc, unfortunately, all my guys are out in the 1st round this week except Wawrinka. Simon blows, Tipsy withdrew (after playing half a set... boo) and Youzhny lost which wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wawrinka needs to at least reach the semis for me to gain some points.Comment -

#127Reminder to set your lineups by tomorrow night for the last week!
Also any feedback is appreciated on this. What you liked. Didn't like, etc. I want to try to kick this off for a full season in 2012 with the Aussie tournaments and would like to mold it toward what would be most popular. May also be launching a website to go with it potentially.Comment -

#128Lineup for 11/7 -- BNP Paribas
Tipsarevic (Wawrinka)
Simon (Malisse)
Youhzny (Starace)
Bogomolov (Berlocq)
Thoughts on the league:
In terms of a long-term point structure, I think the difficulty involved is that the top 4 players (Djoko, Nadal, Murray, and Fed) will consistently score significantly higher for their owners over the course of a calendar year. Example: In a 10-team, snake draft league, Djokovic and a Cilic type (#20 ranked player) will consistently outscore the players around #10/11 (Tipsy/Almagro types). The whole point of a snake-draft is an equal distribution talent, but because the top tier of talent is so far and away better than the rest, you can't really have that.
I think a good wrinkle may be an auction style draft where people bid on the players they want. Give everyone a budget of $100 and if someone wants to burn $75 on Djokovic, let them because it will hurt them in terms of getting medium ranked players and will force them to reach into the 30s/40s for players.
Also, I don't know if this would work to create a more balanced scoring system but an idea I had was... As an example, if a player reaches the finals of a tournament and loses, instead of giving him bonus points for reaching the quarters, semis and finals, just give him bonus points only for reaching the final. Or if he wins the tournament, give him only bonus points for winning the tournament. Again this is just so the top 4 players don't have such an extreme advantage over the rest of the competition.
And the last thing was in terms of replacement players, instead of assigning each starter with a replacement, just have each person rank their bench. So if any starter pulls out, the highest ranked bench player will take their spot.
Overall, this was incredibly enjoyable for me and I can't wait to do it next year. Thanks for setting it up EaglesPhan36!Comment -

#129Second Franks points.
Think one way to equalize whilst keeping the simple draft system could be to make each tourney winner an automatic drop to free agent status each week.
A simpler scoring system might be good too..Comment -

#135Agree with Frank re: selecting players and the replacements rule.
My suggestions would be:
1. Having some kind of bank balance and then auctioning players seems a good idea. Would probably lead to disproportionate values though ie after the first 20 players have been bid for, players will mostly be bought for a pittance. Also - how would we deal with dropping and picking up new players on rosters? Not sure if this is the solution but the snake method doesn't really work IMHO.
2. Snake method could work if we introduce points for players outside of top10 who beat a top10 player. eg. Nish beating Djok should earn a shedload.
3. Ranked replacements to replace any withdrawal an excellent idea.
4. Give a couple of double-up bonus cards to managers (say two cards) that they can use in whichever tournaments they choose throughout the season. When used, whatever points earned in the tournament are doubled.
5. Maybe split the league into four seasons similar to Tennis Insight (Hard Court, Clay and Grass, American HC and the final Asia/Euro swing) to keep interest up throughout.
6. Automatic bonus if you select a guy on your roster who has gone through qualification for the tourney. He's obviously done well to get there by winning X games, and the other blokes in the field are obviously higher ranked - so in theory, better players.Comment -

1. I play in fantasy baseball and football leagues with the auction style draft. Lower ranked players often go for the minimum bid ($1) and there is no issue. It's reasonably expected in those leagues that most of your bench will go for extremely low values ($5-$1). Seriously, your primary "starters" in a league with only 4 starters should take up 90% of your budget. In terms of add/drops, we could use the same system we have now with a waiver wire. In some fantasy leagues, you use free-agent auction budget. You are assigned at the beginning of the year $X for free agents. If you drop a player to add another you have to bid a certain amount for them. In our case, we could do a system where someone lets say, wants to pick up a Gulbis-type player. So they bid $1 of their budget. Then everyone else has 24 hours to make a greater bid. After each bid, 24 hours will pass for a greater bid to come in. I don't know if that's too in-depth for everyone...
2. I'd agree if it's outside top 20. That's more reasonable. No one is that surprised if Simon beats Fish or something like that
3. Yup
4. I don't know about that. Could give massive points to the Djokovic/Nadal/Murray/Fed owners in a spot where they don't need it. Haven't thought it completely through though.
5. I'm OK with it.
6. Can't really be a significant bonus though. Maybe like, 10 points? I'd be good with that.Comment
