Copa Del Rey is taken more seriously in Spain then say the Coppa Italia is in Italy or like the example you give of the Cup in Turkey. Partly because it is the "King's Cup" it has a certain level of prestige to it. Although it is not at the same level as FA Cup in England which is still taken seriously by most teams (except sometimes teams like Man Utd when they give primary importance to league and Champs League). The fact it is being played over a wknd in itself sort of suggests that it has some relevance as many countries just sandwich the Cup games in between league games mid-week - as is the case this week in Germany, France, Turkey, etc...
Obviously the big teams like Barca and Real may still rest big name players in early stages as they play teams from Segunda B leagues. But take last season for example, Real Madrid played Alcoyano away in 1st round proper and the likes of Benzema, Carvalho, Albiol, Kaka, Varane, Essien, Morata, and Callejon all started, and Modric came on. Barca played Alaves away and had Fabregas, Dani Alves, Alexis, Busquets, Iniesta, Montoya, and Mascherano all starting, with Song, Tello, and Jonathan Dos Santos coming on. Atletico played Real Jaen away and Courtois, Gabi, Mario Suarez, Raul Garcia, Cristian Rodriguez, Diego Costa, and Koke all playing.
Atletico will be particularly motivated as they are the Champions and will want to retain it. And it's not like they really need to worry about the Porto game coming up mid-week. I imagine one of Diego Costa or Villa will partner Adrian up front.

Big teams used to get knocked out sometimes by super motivated Segunda B sides when it was only one leg and was played on the smaller teamโs home court. Thatโs why they switched to two legs (the first of which is on the small teamโs home court).
Starters will get some rest but Real, Barcelona, Atlรฉtico or Valencia donโt want to get embarrassed by third league teams.
For mid tier squads itโs usually a big deal, especially if theyโre having a so-so season like Sevilla or Valencia.
Athletic de Bilbao is considered โTheโ Cup team and usually perform well.
As the season advances CL teams wonโt prioritize it (except maybe Atlรฉtico), but the likes of Sevilla, Villarreal, Mรกlaga or Valencia will give it their best shot (if theyโre still around) because it can make or break their season.
Upsets happen, but teams do pay attention to it. (It also gives the champion a seat in the Europa League, donโt know if that happens elsewhere).Comment -
