                          My biggest play for this weekend will be:

                          Cheltenham PK @ -173 at home to Burton Albion...

                          Both sides were battling for promotion last season and ended up in the play-offs. Cheltenham have won their last 3 games in a row at home against Burton, including a 1-0 win last season. Cheltenham's home record in general was excellent last season and was the best in the league as they only lost 2 games. Burton were also very strong at home losing just 3 games, but their away form was not as impressive as they won just 5 matches. One of those wins was at Fleetwood and all of their goals came after the home side's goal-keeper was sent-off; another was at Southend and the goal finally came in 91st minute despite Southend having 10 men for 80 minutes of the game. Two of the other away wins were against sides that finished in the bottom 4 of the league in Plymouth and Aldershot, and the only impressive away win was at Bradford on last day of season (Bradford then got a revenge a couple days later by beating Burton 3-1 in the play-offs!).

                          The main reason for me pulling the trigger on Cheltenham though is the fact that Burton have lost a couple of key players from last season and will be missing some key players for this game due to injury/suspension. Burton's three top-scorers last season were attacking winger Maghoma (45 apps, 16 goals), and strikers Zola (33 apps, 13 goals), & Kee (42 apps, 13 goals). Maghoma and Zola have left the club, while Kee will miss this game due to injury. Burton have signed Rene Howe (42 apps, 16 goals) from Torquay to replace Zola, however he will sit this one out as well as their next game due to suspension that carries over from last season. Furthermore, they will be without key midfielder Lee Bell (43 apps, 4 goals) due to suspension as well, and key defender Zander Diamond (39 apps, 4 goals) is not going to be fit enough to start.

                          Ultimately this may be very stupid as it's first game of season and one team's condition can be very different to another's based on how their pre-season has gone. However, I can't resist betting big on this considering Cheltenham's excellent home record last season, combined with Burton average away record, and their significant absentees for this game.

                            Swansea is going to look real good in the group stage this year. Could very well be a team that everyone still underestimates. I love this club. Have some real sympathy for them. Read a great article in a German magazine about them a few days ago, maybe I'll translate it this weekend and post it here so everyone can read it. Was a good read.

                                Great one on Swansea..Swedish clubs are usually underperfoming in european competitions..I tought Malmo would at least pull one back here but it was a poor play. I expect Malmo in better shape for the home game. They are much better in front of home crowd

                                    Ajax -2.25 A.H. @ -112 at home to Roda (to win 1 unit)...

                                    Ajax should really be winning this by at least 3 goal difference. Roda have lost their most important player from last season Malki who was their top scorer. Also their most important midfielder Fledderus who saved them from relegation last season after scoring two late goals against Sparta will be out due to suspension. After only drawing 1-1 at home last season against Roda, I don't believe complacency or under-estimation of Roda will play a part. Aside from that draw at Ajax, Roda were woeful away from home last season collecting just 7 points, and conceding 51 goals (the most in the league).

                                    AZ Alkmaar win/draw @ -189 away at Heerenveen (risk 1 unit)...

                                    Can't resist this after seeing AZ's impressive counter-attacking performance against Ajax. Obviously they will struggle at times this season without Altidore and Maher, but they have shored up their defence with the signings of Gouweleeuw from Heerenveen, and Wuytens from Utrecht. They have some solid midfielders in new signing Gudelj, Elm, Henriksen, Ortiz, Overtoom, and Martens who has finally returned from injuries. And in attack they have Johannson who might not offer the same physical presence that Altidore offered, but still has potential to score goals in this side, alongside Beerens and Gudmundsson who will offer support on the wings in a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 type formation.

                                    Heerenveen on the other-hand aren't going in to the season in great shape with a combination of in-house political bickering going on between Van Basten and Directors, and lack of signings resulting in a not-so-positive outlook on the season. In addition to losing aforementioned Gouweleeuw to AZ, they have also lost two key attacking players from last season in influential play-maker Duricic (32 apps, 7 goals, 4 assists), and winger El-Ghannasy (14 apps, 4 goals, 3 assists) who gave them a boost in second-half of last season with his pace and flair. Also, combative midfielders Sven Kums (30 apps, 2 goals last season), and Joey van den Berg (15 apps) will both be unavailable.

                                    Other plays I'm considering are:

                                    Zwolle +1 A.H. @ -178 at home to Feyenoord and/or Over 3 goals @ -103;

                                    Zwolle beat Feyenoord 3-2 at home last season and there has been at least 3 goals in each of the 3 occasions that Feyenoord have played Zwolle away. Zwolle have lost their top scorer from last season Avdic which might reduce their attacking threat slightly, however, they have Nijland and Guyon Fernandez whom could end up being very shrewd or absolutely disastrous acquisitions. Might be better to wait and watch the game and make a live bet on the over depending on how the game is looking. But ultimately Zwolle are much better going forward than they are defensively, and we should see them score quite a lot of goals this season (for a club of their level's standards at least), but also concede quite a few. Their artificial turf also plays a part, obviously some teams and players aren't to fond of playing on it.

                                    Cambuur PK @ -156 at home to NAC Breda;

                                    I'm not sure if it's worth playing Cambuur PK at these odds, I think I'd need it to be nearer -125 to -135 range. They were very solid at home last season, losing just 1 game and that superb home record is why they ended up winning the Eerste Divisie. However, they haven't made any significant signings, with Brands, van Morsel, and Feldballe all being players that didnt feature regularly for their previous clubs. The key here is that NAC will probably be without key player Anthony Lurling which is very significant. Again might be best to wait and potentially live-bet this one depending on how it's looking. It may well be that a well-established Eredivisie side like NAC are a level above the newly promoted side and dominate possession even without the influential Lurling.
                                    Also got the Ajax -2.25 and AZ double chance plays.

                                    Aside from missing key midfielder Fledderus, Roda will also be without Guy Ramos, Monteyne, De Beule, and Frank Demouge.

                                      Will also be playing Caen PK @ -250 at home to Dijon.

                                      The away side will be missing some key players from last season in defenders Souprayen (27 apps), Varrault (30 apps, 1 goal), midfielder Baradji (34 apps), and striker Julio Tavares (26 apps, 10 goals). They also sold strikers Brice Jovial (24 apps, 7 goals), and Caceres (17 apps, 5 goals), so they now only have Thil (6 apps, 1 goal), & Kone (25 apps, 5 goals) as forward options.

                                          Not the same bet, he's betting "double chance", which means he wins if AZ Alk wins or draws. He only loses if Heerenveen wins. Your bet is half a win in the event of a draw, other half is a push.

                                          We here in the States don't usually get the double chance option, at least not @ 5Dimes.

                                              No problem. Keep in mind, though he wins in 2 of the 3 possible outcomes (versus win, push, lose) he pays more in the event of a loss. Lot more juice so pick your spots wisely.

                                                  Only just seen this. And yep, it did bother me which is why I only put £112 on it (to win a £100), usually I'd put at least £200-250, and sometimes up to £500 on Ajax -2 or -2.25 against a poor away side like Roda. I probably would of stayed away completely from the handicap if Roda had Demouge and Fledderus available, I'd of probably just put Ajax ML in a few parlays instead.

                                                  Anyway, 2-0 up at half-time, will be very annoyed now if they don't win this 3 or 4-0. If Bojan had of taken his chances/been less greedy they would be 3 or 4 up already. Just hope they don't get casual and rest on their laurels as Roda aren't type of side to just give-up. Victor Fischer has been very wasteful, his decision making woeful. He needs to wisen up in second-half, will probably see him come off at 60 min mark for Schone or Sana.
