#40And a few more things:
For those of you who aren't American and think I should keep my opinions to myself. Well, that's not the way we do things here. We can say what we want about sports (or anything) and don't have to worry about getting arrested like in most of these countries, or getting the sh*t kicked out of us if we root for the wrong team like they do in England.
I wasn't analyzing the intracacies of the sport or the strategy. I was just stating my opinion after watching this BS for a week.
Just like I can ignore the World Cup, you can ignore me. So STFU.
And spare me the garbage about the beauty of soccer. It's a great sport to play, OK? My kid plays it. But it's only a game. You remind me of the dorks who go on incessantly about the beauty and grandeur of baseball. It's a friggin sport - that's all. And I love baseball.
And I've seen the videos of the throngs of Euro trash soccer fans throwing bananas and waving swastikas and shouting epithets at black players, so spare me the garbage about how great and sophisticated soccer fans are.Comment -

You do know that the US isn't the only country with democracy in the world, right? You can share your opinions all you want, and we all have the right to criticize your opinion if we deem it worthy of being criticized. If you come out here and say that the "World Cup Really Sux" and back it up with ridiculous, incoherent arguments, you should expect these kind of replies coming your way. By the way, the US is the most heavily policed state in the world, just a thought. Don't believe everything you see on TV either. I've been in Manchester on Derby Day between Manchester United and Manchester City and nothing happened. The media has done a deceiving job as labeling a disproportionate number of soccer fans as hooligans.
I wasn't analyzing the intracacies of the sport or the strategy. I was just stating my opinion after watching this BS for a week.
Then what were you doing exactly? Go back to the post that started this thread. "I wasn't analyzing the intricaciesof the sport or the strategy", that's exactly what you were doing, and you were trying to criticize how much the "World Cup Really Sux". Your opinion was this poor attempt to criticize soccer. Again, I'm pretty sure the root issues surrounding your post is your jealously that your sport, maybe baseball or American football, doesn't get the worldwide recognition like soccer is getting right now.
Just like I can ignore the World Cup, you can ignore me. So STFU.
Well if you come out and make these ridiculous statements, chances are, you're not going to be ignored.
And spare me the garbage about the beauty of soccer. It's a great sport to play, OK? My kid plays it. But it's only a game. You remind me of the dorks who go on incessantly about the beauty and grandeur of baseball. It's a friggin sport - that's all. And I love baseball.
If you had to classify one as a sport and one as a game, I think it's the other way around. Soccer is a sport and baseball is a game. Which game do you need more athletic ability to play? You can't possibly answer with baseball, where players spend 95% of the time standing around, whereas in soccer, you have players constantly in motion for over an hour.
And I've seen the videos of the throngs of Euro trash soccer fans throwing bananas and waving swastikas and shouting epithets at black players, so spare me the garbage about how great and sophisticated soccer fans are.

#45I know this is going to cause alot of hate, but if this thing is the greatest sporting competition in the world, then bring on Armageddon.
The reason the world cup sucks is because every freakin game is a damn pitcher's duel. Now, I like tense 0-0 baseball games and 3-3 defensive football struggles as much as the next guy. But those things are rare - you have to be really, really good to play those kinds of games at the professional level, particularly in championship and playoff competition. Sure, Roy Halladay and CC Sabathia might have a great duel tonight. But in this stupid World Cup it's like Ryan Rowland-Smith vs Chris Tillman and they're pitching shutouts like they're Sandy Koufax and Nolan Ryan. EVERY DAMN GAME!!!
In any other sport (baseball, football, hockey, golf, etc.) if you don't show up with your A game you're going to get your ass kicked. In this World Cup BS 30% of your team could be off and it would still be 0-0 after 45 frikkin minutes. Teams can even play a man short and still have a decent shot at winning. EVERYBODY has a decent shot at winning. There is virtually no difference between the great teams and the mediocre teams. North Korea is stone age country for God's sake and they almost beat Brazil, which is supposed to be one of the best teams in the world.
That's all.
It will be better that coaches start to change the strategy, or people will get tired of those shitty games...
I believe jose mourinho, internacionale milan's coach is making the other teams belive that playing only defensibly will make them win championships... because thats what happened to him.., but.., come on.., that will make most of the games boring as hell. As a matter a fact, usually, final games on soccer are awful games...
Hope this changes...
Have a good one...Comment -

#47In Soccer, the long back and forth suspense is a major part of the entertainment of the sport. People around the world watch this sport specifically for this aspect, the suspense. Drives to the goal, shots on the goal, a beautiful pass, corner kicks, free kicks, penalty kicks, ball hitting the posts and bar, goalkeeper saves, yellow and red cards, final minutes of a match, etc., are all part of the suspense of the sport. Actual goals scored are sort of like the icing on the cake.
In American sports, entrainment is achieved by scoring points or runs, and the more scored, the better or more exciting it becomes. In the #1 sport of the world, Soccer or Futbol, entertainment is achieved first and foremost by the suspense of a hard fought battle, and so if a match ends up in a 0-0 score, 1-0 score, 1-1 score, or 2-1 score, then such a match is considered fulfilling for a fan, and well worth the money that was spent to watch it.

#48lol, if you say incoherent statements, most people arent goin to ignore u, if your points were good and u had a good statement of why the world cup really sucked, u might get more respect or props for your critics. If you think that mediocre teams are putting in trouble big teams is because they arent mediocre teams and they are playing their strenghts. Its just stupid to think that the coaches from the underdog teams will go: "well hey, lets play all offense so they can score a lot of goals and they enjoy the world cup". They play their strenghts and most of the time, for this "mediocre" teams , they best strategy is to defend and try to counter attack and surprise the other team and if that will give them some what of a chance to draw or win a match, theyll do it, if not look at spain - switzerland. Now, switzerland with a victory over honduras is in the next round and 2 days ago, that wasnt even possible. So stop blaming the good teams or the bad teams for the results. Id rather watch a close active 2-1 germany australia than a 6-0 germany australia. If u watch the world cup for the goals, then u dont understand the whole idea of the game and for the sake of this sport, do us a favor and stop watching it.Comment -

#49If average totals were 4-5 goals, there would still be buildup and suspense. As I asked in another thread already, tell me one other game that has so little scoring over so long a time period as futbol and is at least popular enough to where there are cash tournaments? The few reasons I've gotten so far on why presumed non-Americans like low-scoring futbol amounted to me as "because it's been that way."Comment -

#51^^ So no one's going to reply to this post of mine? That would imply that no one has good reason for futbol being low scoring. Saying that the suspense is a draw means nothing until parallels to other low-scoring sports/activities are made. I think low scoring has little to do with futbol's popularity and the ignoring of my post so far is supporting this.

#52IF all the games average 7-8 goals per match, you wouldnt even need a coach.. you just send them all to attack and try to score more goals than ur opponent. Also, how easy do you think to score a goal? it sure looks easy and yeah when they miss, they are always dumb and stupid and playing bad, etc but behind a goal, theres so mucho more and thats why low scoring games might mean crap to you while to others is pure good tactics use by coaches and players. What do you think it happens when non americans start watching american sporsts?? you think they go: OMG THIS IS THE BEST SPORT EVER!! so much scoring and passion!!.. NOT.. they go: wow this is boring, so little thrill (baseball), waay too many points and timeouts (nba), why are there soooooo many damn advertisents and timeouts (NFL). And thats why youll never be able to get a hang of soccer, you are just a spoiled american that just dont understand the most POPULAR game in the planet.
Lol dude, what are you on about? You start off by misquoting me and then go on a rant that has nothing to do with what I said. Re-read.

#53I love to play soccer and to watch it but this World Cup sucks so far... in fact, watching soccer matches is becoming boring every year because the game is playing with a defensive mentality instead of offensive mentality. The players can cover more area of the field in 90 minutes than they used to be in the past... they are physically better but the field area hasn't changed. It's harder for a player to shine since as soon as he gets the ball there are already two players marking him. The beautiful of the game is in danger, it's becoming harder to see nice dribbles in a match. Defense is out playing offensive easily!
IMHO soccer rules must change!
We must do something to help the game become more offensive friendly... I would start with taking 1 player out from each team... each team would play with 10 players only (goalkeeper +9).Comment -

3. I didn't criticize soccer. I criticized the World Cup and the ridiculous hype surrounding it.
4. No question soccer players are great athletes. But baseball isn't a sport? Are you an idiot? I will guarantee you that ANY major league catcher would have a better chance of stopping a shot on goal of ANY soccer player, than ANY soccer player would have of even fouling off a Tim Lincecum fastball. Baseball may not require the stamina or footwork that soccer does, but it certainly requires more more overall athletic skills and coordination. Anyway, the athleticism of the various sports was not the point of my argument.
5. Look, I've seen the footage of whole sections of stadiums in England, Spain, and Italy taunting black players, so don't tell me these are isolated incidents. #56These opening matches have been somewhat tedious I will admit, but you are judging the entire event based on a small portion of it. The dynamic of the games will change as the tournament progresses, play will open up. Everyone that makes one of these threads right now judging the WC sounds stupid, because it isn't even a quarter of the way through. The teams and tournament cannot be criticized for playing defensive in the opening games, as losing the first match will put any team in a dangerous position. So the matches are played cautiously, and in your opinion turn out boring. If you want to give it more of a chance that's great, and if not, don't watch it.Comment -

#57To everyone saying they shouldn't play defensively.. are you serious? Of course they are playing defensively. When a common score in your sport is 1-0, each goal really counts, so giving one up puts you at a huge disadvantage. I'm an american and I love the world cup! The more you understand the strategy and movement, the more you can appreciate the build up of each play. Of course you won't enjoy a sport if you don't get why people are doing what they are doing. We all have different opinions and different sports we enjoy, but the World Cup is a great tournament, and much more important to most of the world than the superbowl or BCS championship game, etc.Comment -

The only person who has been saying FU is YOU. Check your posts. "Just like I can ignore the World Cup, you can ignore me. So STFU."
The US actually is the 2nd most heavily policed state in the world, behind India, I made a mistake, sorry. You talk about North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Egypt as if you've been there. 50 units says you haven't, and I'll let that ride on you never having left the US in your entire life.
Soccer and the World Cup are synonymous. If you go back to your first post, you'll see that you criticized soccer on more than one occasion, which is fine, but your problem is that your criticisms are thoughtless rambling which have no factual basis. You come up with these absurd theories that link starting pitchers in baseball with a soccer team and ridiculous things that have nothing to do with soccer. You just simply fail to provide a clear argument with facts that tie in directly to backing up that argument. Didn't they teach you how to write a proper paragraph in Grade 5?
Well you called soccer a game and baseball a sport, which I replied, if anything, it's the other way around. I do think that baseball's a sport, the level of coordination required to hit a ball is almost unmatched in any other sport. I'm not going to get into your absurd theories about catchers and foul balls and Tim Lincecum and soccer players. If you think that baseball requires more athletic skill than soccer, you are sadly mistaken. It's fair to say that a typical soccer player would do a better job of playing baseball than a typical baseball player would do of playing soccer.
So you saw those clips on Fox News, right? Do you believe everything your American media tells you? Sure, those things do happen, but they happen a disproportionate amount of times in real life versus how many times you see them on TV. This is how the media works. If you want to tell me about tolerance in the US, what about Arizona? The US is becoming a divided nation day by day.
You, coldhardfacts, have failed to live up to your name. The sophistication of your arguments are on par with that of an elementary school child. You ramble on and on about the most ridiculous things and then resort to name calling when you get called out on your BS. The US is a vast country with huge open borders. Contrary to what you've said, the US is NOT an vast country with open borders. The US has been closing their borders off since 9/11 and things are only getting worse.
I'm certain that I know more about the US than you do, you read that right.
