Ex-Boyfriend Is Shot By Ex-Girlfriend's Dad When He Tries To Break Into Her Home

SIDNEY — No charges will be filed against a homeowner in a deadly shooting in Shelby County this week.

A grand jury voted 8-1 against indicting the homeowner on charges, according to Shelby County Prosecutor Tim Sell.

Shelby County Sheriff James Frye previously told News Center 7 he expected the panel to dismiss the case because of Ohio’s new “Stand Your Ground” law that took effect in April 2021.

House Bill 38 repealed the law, which removed a person’s legal duty to attempt to retreat or walk away before firing their gun in public. The law has been updated to keep the “castle doctrine,” which says a person does not have to retreat in their home or vehicle before firing their gun.

It's a touchy situation. I get it... the law protects the home owner. Unfortunately... whatever possessed the kid to try and kick in the door... the Dad was like "A HUNTER" waiting for him. Did the kid actually get inside? Or did the dad do a chicken shit tactic and shoot through the door?

Regardless... I'll take the heat from other peoples views on this. But who was really the attacker in this??? The Dad was literally waiting like a hawk... ready to shoot. Doesn't look like the kid stepped one foot inside the house?

I feel the kid must of heard his ex-gf's voice... he simply wanted to talk... unfortunately... didn't do a bright move by kicking a door down.

If the dad shot through the door... it was a pussy move. Lucky the law protects the dad. Emotions kill.

Rayl started beating on the door and the homeowner told the individual to leave and that he had a gun, according to a release.

Rayl “shouldered the door several times, eventually breaking the door open and started to enter the residence.” Once he entered, the homeowner fired three shots, hitting him.

“He broke through the door and my dad shot at him,” a 911 caller told dispatchers.
