Do blacks realize they're being played, or do they think all this pandering is sincere?

They say we are overworked, and need more holidays.
I have no problem with it, do we have anything like it already?
It seems a fair way to acknowledge early roots and make sure we never forget history.
Now, if I have to give 10 dollars to a person of color on that day, I'm going to hold off on starting that tradition...

And I don't plan on getting in back out of some kind of role playing respect that day either.

Right? It's June 19th and it's called Juneteenth.
They didn't even call it Emanciapation Day or something like that.

It's on a Saturday this year. It's not a statutory holiday ( that's what we call holidays in Canada where you get paid)

The 19th represents one of dates across the US to have emanciaption.
It was in Texas.

In the US we usually observe those holidays on the following Monday.

In Texas, I do believe, this has already been a holiday, since the 1979.
Also called Juneteenth.

They were the first state to do it and perhaps the national holiday is a nod to that.
But the holiday is about all of emancipation, so the name is a little Texas heavy.

Oh okay so same deal as Canada. So Saturday is the party and you get paid on Monday?
My question is more about the pay.

Holiday pay is up to the individual hiring deal, I suppose.
The government I guess calls it a paid holiday, but nobody really thinks about that.
It's more like a time where there is no market, banking, post office, etc. We'll see what shuts down when the time comes. It's about a day off, but lol for some of us.
For Martin Luther King Day it was a federal holiday, so everyone taking the day off, but doctor's offices rarely close down that day.

I believe, because the blacks weren't generally literate or have access to news, that word of the emancipation spread slowly thru the States in the Union that still held slaves, MD, MO, DE, KY (remember, this gad no legal effect upon the Confederate States), so some heard the news the 13th, some the 19th...so the actual day, in "cotton pickin' terms" was Juneteenth.

It's ok ck.
A holiday commemorating the emancipation of slaves is a worthy holiday.
I wonder what kind of traditions will ensue. I bet the NBA puts up a slate of games to observe the day.
But will there be a traditional Juneteenth meal?

For now, I think I'll start a traditional fried chicken and watermelon feast.
To honor the slaves who, for lunch, would enjoy the convenience of being able to hold a chicken leg and not have to have a drink out in the fields.
No utensils, no cups. Everyone is fed and watered.
Sharp.

KVB, gotta ditch the Watermelon. That's an old minstrel show/Jim crow stereotype. Surprised its still a thing. We don't go that hard for watermelon.
PS. Surprised this hasn't been salooned yet.

Honestly, I was going for the old ways specifically but it's odd becuase I was thinking of other juicy fruits, like apples that were used as well.
Probably a grand fruit salad, fired chicken, potato salad, some pies. Might even add this onion oven baked potato recipe I have, good shit.
I'm serious here, I'm thinking of a traditional Juneteenth meal here.
No ham, no turkey, prime rib, like thanksgiving, christmas and new year's, finally a holiday where we get fried chicken.
The more I think about it, the more I like it.

BLM and ANTIFA should celebrate this holiday by looting stores and lighting fires in the city every year. Rioting and throwing shit at cops. It's only fitting.. ..
