It's obviously SBRs decision, but they would have a lot more players if they made a mac version, it's a PITA setting up emulators, bogging down your system or running a different OS. Considering people are constantly complaining about the lack of players on the SBR client, one would assume it'd be an issue they'd discuss.

It probably comes down to the software development house that SBR is using, I'd bet SBR asked them about a MAC client and they probably quoted some ridiculous price like that it will add 50% - 100% to the development cost.

Now it doesn't really cost that much to make a MAC client, Mac is actually a joy to develop for, but if you are a "by the numbers" software house the easy, safe (lazy?) approach is to train up and certify your guys on the multitude of certificates and "Microsoft Certified" options available, and when a customer asks you about a Mac version just quote some ridiculous price so the customer stays with what the developer knows.

Having worked in pro audio software development where things are just the opposite: Mac is king and Windows is the red-headed stepchild, I can tell you if you plan for doing a cross-platform version from the start it doesn't add that much time and cost, 20% would be MAX I would say.

On the other hand if you do a Windows version with no regard for future Mac or Linux (Iphone, Console...) ports, you'll probably have used a lot of "Windows specifici" technologies in the software and the porting time and cost will be much greater.

So lazy software houses --> high price quote to SBR for Mac version --> SBR scared away as # of mac users added won't justify the doubled price.

Spending $$$ on anti-virus software
Spending time on removing viruses.
Removing spyware and malware programs
installing patches to fix security problems

Don't buy a mac -- you don't get any of these features with a mac.
