Gonna try a life of sobriety
for at least the next 2 months.

i find myself drinking more and more, mostly on days that end with the letter "y".

i used any excuse to crack a bottle, whether it be a sporting event, social function, or even just a mother******* movie with a small group of friends.

so i'm tryna get out of that loop. been successful for three days thus far. last night had a serious craving after a long day of class, work, and projects. it wasn't a physical reaction to "holy crap i need a stiff one" but rather a need for a mental comedown.

has anyone dealt with this?? i tackled mary-jane a few months ago, but this is a bigger beast altogether to tackle.

beat it now before it becomes unmanageable. no fun to wake up and having to choke down a drink to be able to keep food and water down.

Best of luck Burrito, I've been sober for 9 months now and wouldn't trade it for the world; wish I would have tried it earlier on in life but just grateful that I finally decide to do it. Yeah there will be days that are tough early on but just fight off the urge and before you know it, you won't even think about booze anymore. Best of luck.

So you weren't drinking last night?

If not, I would've lost a massive bet if anyone had taken me up on it.

GL stealthy - you've already proven you can tackle the shit that you decide to and beat it. You'll do it with alcohol as well, I have no doubt.

The alcohol is not your problem. The reason why you are drinking is the problem. Tackle the root of the problem. Abstaining from what you think is the problem (alcohol) is simply putting a bandaid on whatever is truly troubling you. Why do you find yourself drinking so much? Is it boredom? Do you find life so stressing that you like the relaxation? Are you drinking to mask an emotion that you don't want to face?

                                      This.

Plus, as Mayan said, you should start exercising on a regular basis. Before you know it, you will get yourself in a great routine of regular exercise and will feel much better and much more confident about yourself. This will improve your sports investing as well as confidence and the psychological aspect is just as important as anything else.

                                      Good luck.

The first two months I went to 1 AA meeting weekly then I stopped going because in all honestly, I wasn't even thinking about drinking (they advise you to keep going so I'm not saying stopping meetings will work for everyone, we are all different). Then I just started to enjoy things I never really gave much effort to, such as extended family and such, plus a few of my cousins started having kids so I babysat a lot on Fridays and Saturdays to give me something to do while all my old friends were at the bar/club. Gym and running also help out a lot, makes you think after you run 3 miles how hard it was to burn off those calories and all it takes is a few brews to put it back on. Everyone is different though, just need to find other things you enjoy that keep you busy, best of luck.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. I like to take in as much advice as I can and keep working at it. I've done the whole meeting and program thing but don't think it's for me. Not trying to hijack the thread, think all advice is helpful to everyone. Best of luck Stealthy and keep it up Ice.

i was sober last night. why would alcohol play into any posting last night??

in any case, thanks for being supportive guys.

not relinquishing alcohol from my life, just gonna cut it down many folds.

the last few times i drank it was not fun. it was a wake up call.

I quit 5 and a half years ago after 30 years of drinking. Best move I ever made. Body feels it in the first week but then it adjusts. Gotta do it cold turkey.

Well, I personally have never seen you post porn in PT. Not once but twice within a few minutes. Kind of the thing either a new poster would do or someone who was trashed considering how long you've been here.

Either way, I wish you the best.
