I think they can be, although doesn't mean they were of course. Just align the loadbearing walls so they point out to sea, tapering to a sharper end. Tsunami hits, wipes out the plaster walls and nothing else.

Doesn't really help the people inside of course.

Yeah D3, showing the beaches on the news now. Not much activity around, just showed a boat awhile ago in the harbor in SF floating around but not much to be scared about.

One of our family's friends was in Japan. I think in Tokyo, when this happened. He was on the 10th floor of a building and it was swaying pretty crazily. He said it was some scary shit and was being tossed around, but he is fine. Scary though. I heard on the news they said they had a preshock a few days ago that were also very strong. I feel bad for the Japanese.
