NFL is slowly going to start losing fans if they keep this stuff up. More PC bullshit=less fans.

#40The reasoning for the Harrison fine...
The reason given fore the fine might be the most absurd thing so far.
"James Harrison was fined $25,000 for roughing the passer, specifically he made helmet contact to the chest of the Buffalo quarterback, who was in a defenseless position at the time the contact was made," the NFL said in an e-mail Tuesday to The Associated Press.

#43Good article. Points out the inconsistency with which players are protected. Same game as the Harrison hit, two players twist Roethlisberger's head on the ground while his leg is pinned and literally injure him. Nothing from the league. Can anyone honestly say that if P. Manning were in a walking boot this week because of a similar play that the league wouldn't be taking action? They'd probably make a rule change.
Lower your head when you tackle = fine[B][B]They key isn't getting rich quick. The key is getting rich slowly, and enjoying it.

#44Lot of players unhappy with Goodell. Rightly so. The minimum contract in the NFL is 300K. Do you think such a player is ever going to risk getting a 50K penalty? There's no way. When in doubt, step aside. You see it all the time now that defenders don't even try to tackle. Goodell has changed the NFL into a joke. Once in a while there's still a good game, but that's in spite of Goodell, not because of him. The sooner he leaves the better.Comment -

Fines should be scaled as percentage of salary. Not all players earn millions.Comment -

#48It will be interesting to see if offensive players are ever fined for lowering their heads and creating the helmet contact themselves.Comment -

#49A clearer explanation of the fine.
A clearer explanation of the fine.
While the NFL threatened suspensions for repeat offenders when it began its stricter enforcement of player safety rules earlier this season, Harrison has not been suspended. League spokesman Michael Signora said there was no such penalty for the Fitzpatrick hit Sunday because it wasn’t flagrant.
“It was illegal because the initial contact with the defenseless quarterback’s chest was made with his helmet,” Signora said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “It was not a late hit. It was not a hit to the head. And he pulled off the quarterback when they hit the ground. Although it was not flagrant, as a multiple offender of the rules in this area, Harrison received a significant fine.”Comment -

Why does he think the QB was defenseless?

#52I think a player learns not to tackle with his helmet, when he gets paralysed from doing it.
On the other side of the coin, how many sprinters win by a head, when you are accelerating it is almost impossible for the head not to be thrust forward. You get caught with your your head behind your legs and you will be flattened on your arse, mowed over by what feels like a freight train.Comment
