Set personal politics aside. All this does (and Gore winning) is belittles the PEACE prize and the past real deserving winners. The prize is a joke now, the Nobel committee should be ashamed of themselves.

Obama didn't deserve to win it, definitely not this early in his presidency. He hasn't got us out of Iraq where we should have never been in the first place. Now he is in the process of sending more troops to Afghanistan, where we really have no chance of ever accomplishing more than we have already. The US will never be able to install a government there that the population there will support. The soviets couldn't win there, and they had far less logistical problems moving supplies and troops since they bordered the place. The soviets definitely didn't have to give billions to Pakistan to allow supplies to be moved through their country. It's time to declare victory and get all of our troops out of both places, not give more awards to our underachieving president.

This award has always been a joke.

All you need to know is that Gandhi was nominated 4 or 5 times and never won, and that Hitler was a nominee in the late 30s. Oh, and Henry Kissinger won it.

The scientific Nobel prizes are more important anyway - they at least may yield some potential for helping people, unlike any of the phony Peace Prize winners.

As someone who feels they wrongly voted for Obama I find it extremely hard to see this as anything but completely absurd... They should have at least waited until he was till was close to finishing his first term and the same ridiculous premises would have at least been slightly more presentable...

Maybe if they had given one to President Cheney on 9/12 for already bringing peace to the world then him and his assistant George might have felt a little guilty about using horrific terroristic acts to justifying their shitting blindly and insanely all over the world and our civil rights...

I was able to get the obvious two (Carter and Gore... damn, clearly I'm the victim of a American triumphalism) and the third I had to verify the time frame with my "real brain" (Kim Dae Jung via wikipedia)... I also knew several obvious ones from the preceding decades...

Even if I knew none I'm not sure how to this disqualifies me from questioning what Mr. Obama (or past winners for that matter) has done to be "the person who shall have done the most or the best work forfraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses" (also via Wikipedia)...
