This is a big story. I don't know why ESPN wouldn't cover it...

Personally I hope Hurley stays at UCONN, but if UCONN/ the state of Connecticut has to give up millions in taxpayer money to do so then it's not worth it. There's more important things to spend money on than a basketball coach.

Lakers' Dan Hurley deal could top $100 million. He may stay at UConn (ctinsider.com)

the wife is almost always a key factor if not the biggest factor in decisions like this.

when i say "the wife" i mean the wife, the kids, the entire family.

happy wife = somewhat happy life.

having a happy wife does not = happy life because you still have a wife.

the price of children (the greatest gift in life) is a wife

        Speaking from experience that's accurate.
Marriage is a give and take endeavor, you need to give a little to take a little.
        (Double entendre not intended)

Ironic you should mention this, just yesterday while waiting for a delivery I was chatting with my neighbor.
She was playing with her four-year-old girl, I commented on how her daughter was always in a happy, cheerful mood.
She thanked me for my words, I replied "You know that's a reflection on you"
She is a pretty child, and I playfully expanded on that and said, "She's going to be breaking a lot of hearts in a few years", she said "that's when I pass the baton to her daddy, and I check out"
(I guess you had to be there)

        Personally, I don't know the Hurley's.
I know people who do, Danny's originally from Jersey City NJ, I'm originally from the neighboring city (Bayonne NJ)
We are pretty much the same age.

Danny's the legitimate real deal, Andrea's a brilliant woman.

Dan Hurley told WTNH in March 2023, “I met her at Seton Hall. It’s like, by far, the best thing that happened to me at Seton Hall, but that was the thing that saved my life when I met her and changed my life and made me want to be better.” Andrea Hurley added, “I didn’t know his story. And then, you know, you just became we just became friends, and next thing you know, we’re engaged. We’ve been best friends ever since.”
In 2020, Andrea Hurley posted a photo from their wedding and wrote on Instagram, “This was my favorite picture from my most favorite night 23 years and so much to be proud of. Who knew we would make such a good team.”
On his Instagram in 2022, Dan Hurley wrote, “We celebrate our 25th Anniversary today and I am so grateful for this incredible woman! She is my inspiration and my strength. She is the leader of our Home Team. Without her love and partnership I would be nothing. My life changed in the best possible way that night at the Hall…Thank you My Love!!”

I believe, and this is not wishful thinking, that Dan stays put here.
They just bought a very nice home here in Connecticut for openers.
The University will probably bump up his annual salary to 10 million.
There're creative ways to give him a raise at no cost to our taxpayers, (which includes me)

The entire family are basketball royalty in the Northeast.
Bobby Sr. is a legendary HC at St. Anthony's HS in Jersey City.
Bobby Jr. won two rings at Duke, and an All-American.
We all know Danny's resume, A-10 Coach of the year, Big East Coach of the year, helped put Wagner hoops on the map, National Coach of the Year.

A lot of this is on P.J. where he learned a lot about coaching from.

The LAL have ruined people's coaching careers.
Sure, the money can be great, but the pressure and the microscope are a lot to take.
if you go 32-50 in portland, oregon, the other 49 states do not care.

if you go 32-50 in LA you are in big trouble. the lakers are an International Brand.

let us look at the list going back 50 years:

            - jerry west 76-79 he never coached again.

            - paul westhead 79-81 never got a decent pro job again.

            - mike dunleavy 90-92 only made the playoffs one more time after that (clippers 06)

            - randy pfund 92-94 never head coached again.

            - magic johnson was tragic johnson as HC. in 94. never coached again.

            - del harris 94 to 99 never head coached again.

            - kurt rambis 99 never coached again.

            - rudy tomjanovich never again

            - byron scott nowhere since

            - luke walton. total flop

            - frank vogel - one year in Phoenix and flopped

            - darvin ham = ???

you see my point? outside of pat riley and phil jackson, every other LAL coach just about has really struggled to get a top HC job again.

mike d'antoni and mike brown resuscitated their careers but no finals appearances since they left LAL except for mike brown the year steve kerr was out. but that was with 4 HOFers on the team.

DO NOT DO IT DANNY. DO NOT DO IT.

I'm told that Geno and Danny had a chat, and that Geno told him that Danny could win several championships out there.

When Jim Calhoun stepped down, UCONN replaced him with Kevin Ollie.
Ollie was Calhoun's assistant, and Calhoun recommended him.

Ollie proceeded to set back UCONN to the stone ages.
(That team under Ollie that won the natty was recruited heavily by Calhoun, he should get all the credit, not Ollie)
What happened after that was a train wreck.
Ollie was investigated for numerous violations, HS kids that were leaning UCONN, went elsewhere, it took Hurley to dig them out.

Same thing when Randy Edsall went to the Fiesta, got smoked by Stoops, carpet bagged his way to Maryland, kids that committed to UCONN to play football for us, couldn't jump ship fast enough, just when the Huskies looked like they were about to become relevant, became a nightmare.

It took Coach Mora all those years later to get UCONN over .500 and get to minor bowl again.
Oh, by the way, Edsall was such a disaster, he thought he could compete in the ACC, he believed he was "all that".
                  Hardly.

My guess, 50/50 Hurley stays put.
There will be backlash if he leaves Connecticut, he's invested here, and I really don't think Andrea wants to leave.

NASHer there is always backlash when a great one leaves.

What Dan needs to think about is that if he was not this good, UConn and its fanbase would not give two shitts about him.

he needs to do what is best for HIM.

remember when brian kelly left Cincinnati and needed security to get out of the building?

                    backlash happens all the time.

if he leaves it will be because he is buying into the Lakers vision (they had better have a vision because right now they are not looking good as a franchise) and that $100M.

i still believe he stays in UConn and waits for a better pro situation to go to.

Cowherd's show starts in 30 minutes.
He has close multiple LA sources.

I'll bet the max that's his lead today.
                      He's on at 12:00 EST, FS1 nationwide.

he had to lead with last night's game because there has been no update on Hurley yet.

                            it is already Noon ET.

how long will Hurley leave the Lakers twisting in the wind today before he rejects their offer?

                                Cowherd's next segment is Hurley.
He teased it right before advertisements by saying...

"I think Hurley stays in Connecticut"

Peavey gives me playful shit, he can't stand Cowherd, I think he's one of the best of the talking heads.

No in-betweens with Cowherd, you either love him, or can't stand him

                                      Homie, the voice of reason!

Colin and Homie are in total lock step with everything.
His side kick Jason McIntyre just coughed up this golden nugget.

Jay Wright is a stealth candidate for the Laker gig.

Sounds like Wright is the backup plan if Hurley turns down the offer. Lakers don't want to get rejected and have someone in place to recover from the embarassment.

If they had it, it's almost certainly OTB now with a decision imminent
