I've already said he was not my hero

I'm not acting like he was anything other than someone who shouldn't be criticized by a forum administrator immediately after he, his daughter, and 7 other people spiraled to a horrifying death.

Umm millions of people die everyday. If someone says it's a tragedy, it's very normal for someone to say, it's more of a tragedy that perfect people die everyday

Why do we continue to see sports starts as gods?

It saddens me how people who purportedly use money to gamble have resorted to acting like old grannies at the church next to my son’s school. It’s an old money neighbourhood with funerals almost every day and you hear “he was such a lovely man” “”she was such a good mother”. Then they come to our school cafe all liquored up after and say “he was a mean, cheap bastard” “ “she was a c word of a woman”.

I’m over the hero worship of athletes and celebrities. I worship my family and those who spend their lives trying to keep the general public safe ie fireys, paramedics, etc.

not going to apologise nor will I ever... but if it makes you feel better, keep on keeping on while I sun tan

Considering that it was so unexpected, I would put it higher than Wacko Jacko. When it was announced that Jackson died, I wasn't really surprised.

Anytime a big name dies accidentally like this, it should be more noteworthy.

When you say "Kobe" everyone knows who you are talking about.

From a witness of the crash

A massive boom was heard in Calabasas, Calif., followed by a few seconds of silence. Then a fireball erupted on a hillside off Las Virgenes Road.

Wait, what makes Paul Walker’s death so impactful?

Did he transcend his industry? Did he do something in Hollywood or elsewhere the likes of which is only generational?

How can we compare Paul Walker to someone like John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, or Tiger Woods?

Oh wait, Tiger’s still alive...never mind with that one.

                      Because it’s sudden? Unexpected?

I never understood the effect of Paul walkers death. He's a guy you saw in shitty movies yet idolized in death. Humans are funny.

I think the only thing that really made Walker's death so impactful(to some) was they were worried how The Fast and Furious franchise would carry on.

Christ, my dad called me from a train show he was doing in Boston and asked me if I heard about Kobe Bryant. And my dad doesn't even watch basketball. He doesn't know who the fukk Paul Walker is.

The only reason I see your point is because of this....

I've always said and wondered why firefighters and police officers receive so much Honor & mourning when they die on duty , but when a construction worker who has a job just as dangerous directing traffic, gets killed on the job, nobody even thinks twice about it.

But, talking about someone so badly the same day they have tragically died is a bit much.

So, I'm going to ask you this and I hope we can get an answer without you taking offense or taking it the wrong way.

What would you think or say if someone says "Eh, who cares about those ppl dying in the Australian fires? People die every day right, so what's the big deal?"

This is a serious question and conversation I'm asking you, not sarcasm or arguing.

There's something called tact, and there's the familiar phrase of "a time and a place"

Genuinely curious what you think you're accomplishing with this misguided crusade? Yeah, some people who die are flawed human beings. No shit. If people want to grieve, let them grieve. It's pretty simple

There's a small, but influential (from a web/social media standpoint) demo that took his death really hard. My nephews were 9 and 13 at the time. For teens and 20 somethings, it was the first celebrity for many of them that they felt like they "knew" who died without it being a drug OD or something (that demo kept the Fast and Furious franchise rolling)

He's just another actor to me, but for their age group, I can see why he'd show up in poll results.

Genuinely curious what you think you're accomplishing with this misguided crusade? Yeah, some people who die are flawed human beings. No shit. If people want to grieve, let them grieve. It's pretty simple

But from my psychology background I know that grief is complex for problem. Many people struggle around deep personal loses and never grieve properly as it's too close to them, like a child, spouse, sibling.

For some people when I public figure that they felt some sort of familiarity or connection with dies they can more easily deal with unresolved grieving through this more neutral 3rd party. It's easier to navigate some of the emotions and words.

Everyone's different , I lost a brother last year. My family tends to use humor for dark times , but we weren't able in that situation since it was a young man and his own family was suffering even more than us. I bottled up my emotions until leaving his state. Months later another sibling and our spouses clicked on Manchester by the sea not knowing how sad it was. Once the emotions started in that, we paused it and let out a real mourning. Didnt finish film, but 45 mins later the sharing had shifted to funny stories and just making fun of the slobbering messes we had all became at some Hollywood acting with a sad soundtrack.

Again grief is different for everyone and you never really know what else someone is dealing with deep Inside when a public death occurs.

I will respond to you genuinely because you approached it in a polite and genuine manner.

If I had started a thread yesterday and said what do you think of Kobe I know the responses would've ranged from shit to worse shit to bigger than the biggest piece of poo to those who genuinely love him. All good as he was a flawed man.

My whole point in this thread was to say don't turn a flawed human into a martyr. We are all going to die. None of us are perfect nor should we be feted as such in life and especially as a lie after our deaths.

That's it. The same will happen when MJ eventually goes. People like those in this thread will hope to wash over the fact that he hasn't always necessarily been a great person in his private life despite his achievements on the court (let's forget the whole baseball gig). For some reason we raise these people up on a pedestal when your next door neighbour may die tomorrow without so much as a newspaper ad yet she may have brought you muffins once in a while when she had extra.

I've had too many people die the last year, got married, had to do a new will, etc... we're all going to die and I absolutely do not believe one of us is more important than the other. We're all flawed and it's ok to say that no matter what day it is. His family isn't going to read what little shari91 from SBR says nor would they care if they happen to see it because it's the absolute truth from the horse's (his wife's) mouth.

People need to start worshiping those who deserve it in their communities and pay attention to their own backyards instead of pretending to be so cut that an admin at a GAMBLING forum came out and said yes a guy who didn't know your name died but so did another 100 million today. Be thankful you're alive and celebrate in his honour if that's your choice.

It's either disparaging or it isn't, regardless of what someone somewhere else is saying. Are those other people forum admins who like to swing the ban hammer around?

It saddens me how people who purportedly use money to gamble have resorted to acting like old grannies at the church next to my son’s school. It’s an old money neighbourhood with funerals almost every day and you hear “he was such a lovely man” “”she was such a good mother”. Then they come to our school cafe all liquored up after and say “he was a mean, cheap bastard” “ “she was a c word of a woman”.

So your solution is to be more like them?

Once again, it isn't hero worship to have respect for the recent dead
