MN Ground- WE ARE HERE!
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 4 hours ago
Never have I ever been so happy to land on MN ground as I was today in the 3 o'clock hour.
This morning just before 9am Las Vegas time a team arrived to UMC Intensive Care Unit to begin the transport for Andy. The lines were tangled, his oxygen levels were a little lower, and I was a mess as I tried to help the team. There was a part of me thinking this wasn't going to happen today. I watched the doctors and nurses line the hallway and wish us good luck as we began to exit. Soji (charge nurse) stepped out and gave me a hug, I held my tears as I tried to remain calm and brave for Andy. Although I was so happy to be leaving Las Vegas there was this part of me that was anxious for all the unknowns that lie ahead.
Outside of UMC main entrance the two air ambulance nurses and I boarded the ambulance and took off to a Las Vegas airport. As we were getting situated I was told the flight would be 2 hours 50 minutes and there was not a bathroom on board so try and go now if needed. The air ambulance plane was staffed with two pilots, 2 air ambulance nurses, Andy and myself. There was not a bit of spare space in the plane and it was hot, sticky and tight. The small plane arrived at the St. Paul airport where we were met by an ambulance that transported us to Regions Hospital. Upon arriving in our new space I was greeted by a familiar face that I had not seen in nearly 20 years! One of our nurses and I graduated high school together! Needless to say they jumped right in, changing his lines, bathing him and reading through his massive chart that was sent with. We are currently working on stabilizing his blood pressure and getting accustomed to the new space.

Finding our way
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 5 hours ago
With change comes challenges.
Some people often say one step forward and two steps back, I am feeling that way after finally getting Andy home. The doctors are working hard to understand what was done in Las Vegas and why, along with how West Nile is impacting Andy. Andy had a good flight to MN, he remained stable. #TeamAndy is working on stabilizing his blood pressure and oxygen (breathing with a ventilator). This morning the neurologist was here and spoke about an EMG test that would test his muscles (Electromyography (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve's stimulation of the muscle. The test is used to help detect neuromuscular abnormalities. During the test, one or more small needles (also called electrodes) are inserted through the skin into the muscle.).
One thing that each doctor has made very clear is that West Niles can effect each person very differently. There is a broad range in the length of time for recovery and the impact on the muscles and cognition. Regions Hospital has had two recent cases of West Nile where both of the individuals have gone into therapy programs after weeks of ICU treatments. The ICU treatments are all patient support, this means keep them comfortable and building range of motion. While people are intubated it can be very uncomfortable so the team works on keeping him comfortable with a pain regimen. We are also going to have a consult for a tracheotomy (Tracheotomy, or tracheostomy, is a surgical procedure which consists of making an incision on the anterior aspect of the neck and opening a direct airway through an incision in the trachea.) as Andy has been intubated for nearly two weeks.
Our girls know that daddy is sick and that they are trying to make him feel better. At this time we do not feel it would be good for the girls to see Andy in the condition that he is in. We are hopeful that he will be in a better place soon and ready to visit with them. I am so excited to see the girls today, it has been 14 days since I have hugged them!
Please continue to pray for Andy's strength, stability, and tenacity along with his new medical team and family as we continue the journey of healing here in Minnesota! We are so grateful to have all of you in our lives.Comment -

#61524 hours in MN
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 12 hours ago
Wow, a lot has happened in the 24 hours since we landed in MN ok maybe 30 hours. #TeamAndy were able to get his blood pressure under control with medication, his oxygen levels continued to remain low. The team completed metanebs (The MetaNeb System is indicated for the mobilization of secretions, lung expansion therapy, the treatment and prevention of pulmonary atelectasis, and has the ability to provide supplemental oxygen when used with compressed oxygen.) which showed some improvements and then his oxygen levels would drop. The medical team then completed a stat chest x-ray followed by a bronchoscopy (Bronchoscopy is a procedure that looks inside the lung airways. It involves inserting a bronchoscope tube, with its light and small camera, through your nose or mouth, down your throat into your trachea, or windpipe, and to the bronchi and bronchioles of your lungs.) in order to see if there was blockage. They did suction out a couple areas but they did not feel that was the cause of the oxygen level dropping. The team followed up quickly with a echocardiogram on the bedside. (An echocardiogram (echo) is a test that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to make pictures of your heart.) which showed his heart was doing well (which was great after we had heard it was healing from the original in Las Vegas). The ICU team decided to begin a protocol that would inject medication into her ventilator and he could breath, much like a neb treatment. The doctor said it typically works for 30% of people... good news, Andy must be in the 30 percentile because his oxygen numbers look good!!
Dave and Lynn (Andy's parents) were able to spend some time with Andy today which allowed me to go see our girls! I was welcomed with the best hugs! I spent the afternoon cheering on Elsa and the Irish 8U team with Maisie by my side (or on my lap!). God is good and we continue to pray for Andy's recovery.Comment -

#622You can if you turn Pro. With a $100 donation to Angelman, you could donate your points for another $700+ to the family. Sam said they are not taking away points down to the 3K like they normally do when non-pros sign up. (This is only if you are donating the points)Comment -

#626Bronchoscopy, tracheotomy and echo are all things I was hoping would be done. Not sure where you’re at but I think they’re capable of giving Andy the best chance. With that said, UMC did an absolute brilliant job and deserve praise for keeping him alive and well enough to transport.
How is his ejection fraction now? At one point it was 20%, where we at now?Last edited by The Kraken; 09-10-18, 04:33 PM.Comment -
