That is simply not true. I'm pretty sure Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson and Phil Helmuth have not went broke playing poker. They are long time proven winners.Comment -

LOL! Ivey just won the Maccau high-roller short deck event a month ago. You are clueless when it comes to poker. Stick to offshore where they print your paystubs chap

Widely known he's on a 60/40 (red) with 5Slimes and a half book with BOL.....Slow season and legal wagering busting up his bankroll. That said, he's prob worth it for the books.Comment -

#80I respect Sweep's opinion here. But we'd like to see more factual details.
Ivey's poker game is respected. That's a fact. Truth is that poker is a YOUNG MAN'S game. Youth have more energy + more capacity to learn. The young pass the old by in poker.
Ivey has gamble to him. He used to blow $$ on craps etc. Would love to hear what his REAL balance sheet is.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#82Ivey is in massive debt
He does not have that massive yearly income coming in like real athletes do and loses 100'ks a pop playing at casinos

#86Had to look it up, sweep, because I thought he was too.
However, Phil Ivey being broke was a rumor started by Dan Bilzerian last year after Ivey lost that $19 million in that casino "cheating vs. edge-sorting" lawsuit. Ivey responded by getting on a plane to Australia, buying into the Aussie Millions high-roller $250k buy-in...and then won the tournament for 4 mil AUD. Guy is a silent assassin in all aspects of life. Nobody knows in the slightest what his bankroll looks like, but he sure isn't broke. Made Bilzerian look like a clown by actions, not words. Props to him.Comment -

#87Daniel Negreanu is the only professional player I know of off-hand that consistently is in the black year after year. He may not win a lot of bracelets, but he's always ITM.Comment -

#88I loved when chris moneymaker eliminated young Ivey from wsop. To the ivey fans...he reads opponents very very well. He also was very much dirty in the full tilt poker fiascoComment -

I can't name people because i don't know. From what i hear the rumors are true. Believe what you want to believe at the end of the day if he has 200 mill or 2 mill doesn't make a diff to either of us.Comment -

#92or he is getting staked and keeps only a percentage of the money which from that only pockets change because he owes out a lot of money.

#100good thread.
mike is a very good tournament player. very very aggressive but people still fold even knowing that. i'll have to think of the math on that.
i think he is a little tainted by his support of chino rheem, a truly despicable human being.
curious on the taxes. i thought there were all kinds of problems on timing. you will always pay taxes on winning years. losing years are iffy as to getting benefit for them in other years. and i don't think there's any serious expectation of making a profit on black jack so i wonder if they are deductible.
how do taxes work when you sell 70% of yourself for 100% of the entry fee? do you just pay taxes on the winnings and pay your investors a net of taxes figure?Comment -
